Fired From My Job!

23 posts in this topic

Ok so I recently got fired from my Job. My job had me driving every day anywhere between northern pa, new jersey, all of md and delaware and northern virginia. I slept through my alarm ONCE, and awoke to an email on my company issued blackberry saying that I had been terminated. Thanks a lot ! Anyone share similar experience? Anyway, i'm trying to find some part time work to generate income while my band is in the studio..even simple mindless work is almost impossible to come by!

Sorry to hear man!
I most recently lost my job cause the GPS on my blackberry storm messed up and sent me way away from where I was supposed to be... Long story short, boss thought I was lying and told me to pack up my tools and get out.
Have you tried asking any of your pals if where they work is hiring? I find it helps when you know someone on the inside lol
But good luck!

Ouch, that really sucks. Make sure you apply for unemployment. I can't imagine that being late once is a "justifiable firing", you should be eligible to receive it....hopefully.

Good luck on your search, and with the band!

It sucks. I'm one of the only people I know that has not been affected by the economic slump. My best friend went from being a character/videographer on a Nationally syndicated shock-jock show (BTLS) to shoveling jack-hammered concrete into a wheel-barrel. I hear a lot of people at my work complaining they don't make enough and I just look at them funny. Good luck, brother.

I know how you feel, Jeep. I got laid off last July and I'm still unemployed. My previous place of work told me they didn't have the hours available to keep me around anymore, so I had to be let go. This is despite the fact that I was the only one working on my side of the store (everyone else would just stand around and talk), and that I covered multiple departments and positions.

Even after graduating from College in September, there's nothing in my area period. Definitely file for unemployment, it's the only thing that's helping me make ends meet. There's really no companies around here even looking for help, and those that are haven't called me back.

Really, the only places "hiring" around here are fast food joints, and I refuse to work there. My current unemployment claim runs until November before I have to reapply. However, I'm hoping it doesn't last that long.

I feel your pain.

I was at a job for 9 months. Doing work as a financial specialist. Processing checks, delivering account info, and stuff like that. Was never late or anything like that until one day I over slept my alarm and was late for work by 17 minutes.

The next day I get called in the office and told I was canned and to leave the building immediately.

Yeah. Late once and that's it. I was told it was inside job by the higher ups.

But keep job searching & keep your head up. It will come along for you.

Wow, good luck to you the original poster on finding new jobs. I had an interview last Friday at CBS Radio and I punched in the address on my GPS and it had me lost in Downtown Charlotte. I had a 12PM interview and I didn't get there until 12:30PM, I wanted to kill my GPS, now luckily I was able to still have the interview and I still got the job but I am definitely going to use some money from my first several pay checks to buy a GPS Map Updater or a new GPS System, and oh save up to buy tickets for the Ravens/Panthers game when the Ravens play the Panthers down here in November :)

Good Luck to everyone on this board who is unemployed and trying to find a job in this economy, I moved down to Charlotte in 2008 to start Broadcasting School(right out of high school, moved from Maryland to Charlotte) and couldn't find a damn thing until now.

Some employers are becoming very harsh. I've been in manager meetings in which senior managers have openly said, "Get rid of people. There are plenty more out there looking for jobs in case you need a replacement," or "You have 150 people. By the end of the month I want you doing the same work with 130." That callous behavior by leaders is not necessarily shocking, but definitely troubling since it's often unnecessary if you know how to manage in the first place.

If you're near Perryville, Hollywood Casino is right there and has a decent number of positions from basic service positions to Operations Managers. They're openly hiring. I've been thinking about bailing on my management job and being a card dealer. Less stress and I'd get a cool vest!

Are people really going to be that much more impressed to see that you've worked 6 months at Hardees? I'm kind of in the same situation as was laid off in an Electrical job in January and haven't found anything since. Been debating moving out of this small town of 8,000 again to go back to Winnipeg. There is not much out there that is for dang sure.

Being laid off is easier to explain in an interview than being outright released and you have skilled work background, so your situation is different than many.

Your skill (electrician/apprentice) makes you instantly better-off than a general worker. The fact that you could be laid off just due to work shortages is also a quick blip in an interview. Unfortunately, people read resumes before they grant interviews and gaps in employment make H.R. managers twitchy, especially when they have so many resumes to choose from, many with the same skills and no gaps.

One absence should not be considered justification for release so Maryland should grant that unemployment benefit request. I've seen people get unemployment benefits after missing weeks of time. The only truly 'no chance' cases are openly expressed job abandonment (quit, don't show up for days without excuse), hostile activity (sabotage, assault or other belligerent/insubordnate behavior) or theft. Outside of that, you should absolutely apply for benefits.

Thanks everybody! Also, to those of you in the same position as me right now, I wish the best of luck to you as well. I'm considering filing for Unemployment benefits, I'm hoping that I can find at least something before I reach that point though.

Oh well, I'm staying on the positive side of things. At least I have plenty of time to hit the beach this summer!

If you are thinking of filing for unemployment the sooner you do it the better because there's a little hassle with all the paperwork and all that crap they make you fill out, just makes it easier getting it done with and out of the way.

Not to turn this into a political thread, but the US should really take an interest in how Korea is handling the job crisis there.

I recently went on a trip there for business and talking with some of the locals, it looks like they are getting ready to cut back from 40-hours a week to 32-hours a week. The "pro" is that it will create several hundred jobs as none of the businesses will actually be cutting any hours from the work floors, just the individuals hours. The "con" is that people employed will be making quite a bit less money than they are used to.

If you want to create jobs, it sounds like a good place to start.

It really bums me out to hear & see people without work and then you have people that complain when they have to wake up to go to work every day. It's really sickening.

Anyway, best of luck to all of you in your search for employment. It's tough out there right now. That's why when people ask me how my job is going, I just tell them, "It's still there." That's all you can really hope for these days.

Again, good luck everyone.

and this is why all these holdouts really piss me off, people need a job yet there lucrative contracts aren't enough

YES!!!!!!! I so agree with you. This is one of the reasons why I don't think the Titans should give in to Chris Johnson, granted he certainly deserves to get paid because of what he has done, but for him to say he can't play for $550,000 is something that ticks me off as well. Anyone who doesn't have a job right now would gladly take that $550,000. I don't know who else is holding out but Chris Johnson is the only main one I can think of.

The bottom line for any business is to drive profit margins, that's why I'm self employed despite the dangers of my profession. That and sometimes you don't really have a choice.
