State Of The Defense

23 posts in this topic

Just curious, what part of the defense would you guys like to see addressed in the draft, and what position would make the most impact for next season?

I personally like Cedrick Ellis, the tackle from USC but Im not sure if we should use an 8th pick overall on a lineman or a defensive back.

Like I've said a few times, I think we need a guy that can play any DB position.

there's no one like that good enough to go eighth, so either we go with a luxury pick like Mcfadden, add some depth to the D-line(which is lacking) with chris long or calais campbell, or we trade down and pick up some veterans.

What we need is CB's, If we are drafting defense. But if the Ravens draft best available, I doubt that is a CB. If for some miracle Long falls to the eight they will take him.

P.S. this topic will probably get moved to "2008 Draft" area.

Depth at DB, depth at the DE postion and maybe a Nice Speed rushing DE, Maybe a LB that will be able to take Ray lewis place in a few years. but maybe thats nick greisen who knows except the coaches on him.

I do not know if we need a LB. We seem to always have a lot of depth at that position. Guys that continue to step up out of nowhere each year. Hartwell, Sharper, AT, Bart Scott, next perhaps Greisen.

I dont think it will be greisen this year. If any linebacker will come to prominence it will be antwaan barnes. he's the only one challenging for a spot who doesnt already have one.

I definitely think we have to get a CB or two. Whether that would be through the draft, free agency or off the NFL scrap heap. We saw just how important the CBs are to the Ravens defense. Plus, you have to be looking for Chris and Samari's replacements anyway.

Barnes is another one that can step into a starter role, perhaps.

If Sizzles wants to go to Arizona, let him. If we have to make a trade, get their draft pick. Im pretty sure Barnes had more sacks than him, and Antwan only comes in at certain times.

but its un-likely because we will slap the Franchise tag on him OR some other thing that i cant think of at teh current moment. but i read/heard about it and what we would do in order to keep him a member of this team.

Barnes is a OLB not a MLB.

it's definitely CB! every position is vital to overall team success, but you have to address the most exposed area and that is with no question CB. the WR's are getting bigger, faster and stronger in this league, and you have to have shutdown corners to try and get in their heads and let them know they are in for a dogfight all game long.

depth at DE would be a solid 2nd round pick.

CB is most definately one of the positions in which we need the much stressed upon issue of "depth" and so im sure that ozzie and staff will/have taken that into account as well as any other factors in any other positions we may need the little extra help. but give credit to Ozzie and his staff for Constantly Drafting Good Quality players year after year to helps this team out in the long and short run of things...one's full of potential and talent...the sky is the limit for most that come here.

What is the story with Dan Cody? Will he ever be healthy so we can see what he can do? Is he still on the team?

our defense is still one of the best this League has to offer, and the Veteran type players still play with the same passion, intensity and drive and motivation and thrill as the rest of the team. not too mention the added Experience and poise, can offer a much needed Cushion when teaching the younger talent on this team, AND in seeing how they still go out there on the field and play Hard every week. says something about their individual efforts they put forth. and KEEP putting forth to try to help this team get back to where it needs to be at.

He is still on the team, he was just put on the Physically-Unable-to-Perform list from the start of the season, not sure how he got hurt to begin with, but after not being taken off the PUP list by like the mid-way point of the season it sidelines him for the rest of the year. I would like to see him play at least some, afterall we did draft him in the 2nd round. We'll see what happens with him next year, cause it alwasy seems he's hurt when every new season rolls around.

yea, i think we all want to see what Talent Cody TRULY does possess, because quite frankly this injury bug has bitten him most of all very very hard, to the point where he couldnt or wasnt able to show everyone (fans, coaches, players, staff, teams and all the above) that he can play and play very well at that. i mean put yourself in his position year after year being injured and yet another season ended....it would really bring your morale and overall spirit down to an all time low, in a way. hopefully he can keep a positive outlook on this issue and soon enough excel to the best of his ability.

Our DB's got burned so bad when we were forced to go with our backups (of course that is why they were backups we must remember that) I have not studied the draft class but reading other posts it seems there will not be a fantastic DB for us in the first round but I think this is the area we need to address most.

i think a big part of our DB's poor play last season was the plain and simple fact/issue of that which is presented/clearly evident: in-experience.......because the less you know, the less you will help this team...the more you know, the better you will help this team.

I work with an OU grad who is an AVID OU fan and knower of OU things. He says that if Cody ever gets and stays healthy that we will be pleasantly surprised. I told him we are all patiently waiting.

injury can definately over shaddow one player's True Athletic talent and force a team to let him go, without seeing his true athletic side of the deal.....i do hope he can get things going and stay healthy for us so that he can show the fans, and coaches and his teammates that he does in fact have what it takes and does it very well. before we have to release him.
