Yeah especially considering we're in the same division as the resurgent Browns.

I have to say I didn't take him seriously until the Franchise touted him here, but after I looked into him, his size, his physical abilities...I was convinced he was THE Quarterback to get in this year's draft.

His determination in learning Cam Cameron's offense, his continued determination in watching film every Monday...What more can one say???? Joe Flacco is DETERMINED TO BE THE BEST and will prove it in the playoffs. But it will take a TEAM with the same determination to get it done.

Wow, your name fits you perfectly! 11-5 it is!

No, I don't think so. Our defense is stellar and Flacco has proven that he can get points on the board. GO RAVENS

Certainly worth it. I came into this year as a huge Troy Smith supporter. Joe has conviced me he is the man. I do love when I get to see them both on the field. IMO we went from no QB to 2 very capable guys, Lets beat the phins!!

Glad he's worked out. I just hope Troy will either relish a back up roll here for a few years, or he gets a chance some where else.

I love Flacco but he still must prove he can win in the playoffs. The playoffs are a totally different animal. The game gets much quicker and some rookies just can't handle it.

We need Flacco to manage the game but our D and our running game must produce if we are going to Tampa.

You're going to ask him to walk on water next, right? At what point is a rookie good enough for some people? Sheesh...

True test of character is if he can go into Miami and get us a win in the playoffs, will be a step down from say going to Tenn or Pitt (way more hostile than Miami) in the playoffs but we gotta take one step at a time. Hopefully the unflappable Joe flacco lives up to his name, either way I am greatly impressed by this QB and amd defiantly excited for what his future holds in the NFL

I didn't catch on to the date right away, but once I did - hysterical!

...and the ensuing posts were quite amusing, too. Thanks for the laughs, all!

For me, he doesn't even need to prove this this year. I'd love him to and I think he has a good chance to, but he's proven a lot to me and just getting him some playoff experience this year could mean nothing but positive things for next year.

What's funny is when the season started were you thinking "Okay this guy needs to prove to me he can win in the playoffs"? I doubt it.

That said I agree, now that he's exceeded all expectations and lead us to a 11-5 playoff birth, he has to prove he can catch up to the speed of the game in the playoffs. Personally, based on how he's been composed all year, I think he'll do more than fine. Whether or not they win is going to come down to how our defense handles Miami's Wildcat formation, which I'm not too worried about.

Could someone explain this phrase to me please? What exactly does this mean? I hear it all the time, and still don't get it...
Do Pittsburgh's players run faster in the playoffs? Does the clock wind down faster?

We've been playing playoff football for the last two games. No one has rattled Flacco yet. I can't see the play offs changing that.

Nahhhh...I only just, y'know, kept throwing Joe Flacco's name out there every few posts in the months leading up to the draft. Joe Flacco this, Joe Flacco that; University of Delaware this, University of Delaware that; QB of the future, rocket arm, Peyton Manning-like build, hidden athleticism, great awareness, goes to my school...y'know, the usual.

Basically, it refers to how the stakes of a playoff game have an exponential effect on game speed; in theory, with an increase in players' motivation, comes an increase at the speed in which they and their instincts react, fueled by an increase in adrenaline.

So basically, the game moves faster because everyone is amped up. When you've got 11 guys on defense who are running with full abandon, screaming like a banshee, that tends to scare the crap out of you on offense and pushes you to move faster as an offensive player, which also increases the propensity for mistakes in rookie players -- particularly rookie QBs.

As long as Flacco doesn't panic and learns to process everything just as he has all season, he should be fine.

I'll add that it could be a more mental idealogy than a physical speeding up...

I hear talk about the game "slowing down" for a player. Like they said happened for Flacco after a few weeks. Consider before you knew how to drive or when you were first learning. You got on the highway and the other cars seem to speed around you and you were a bit hesitant or wary about changing lanes because the other cars seemed to be whipping around willy-nilly. Then, after you learned how to drive, you started to see the openings and knew when to change lanes. Did the other cars slow down? No. It just seems that way to you because you understand the patterns and are more confident in your own driving.

I think when they say the playoffs will speed up, they may also be saying the the pressure of it being a playoff game could make a player [especially a rookie] feel intimidated enough that the game feels like those first days of seemingly moving too fast for you.

Just another viewpoint...

I dont know if it means anything, but Flacco was being targeted by Parcells ahead of Henne, and he was pissed off when you guys picked him. Henne, in the little time he's played, has been pretty good, and has a pretty good future. This might be one of the best QB classes in recenet history

Aw man I don't want to hear Henne's doing good, lol...Me and my brother got into a huge debate over him before the draft....he thought that Henne was a beast, I thought Henne was way overhyped. Then when he landed in Miami, (no offense) I figured with just average WR's over there he was going to be a dud.

Long story short, if Henne doesn't throw for 3,200 yards in 2009, I'll be $50 richer. If he does, I owe my bro two cases of Guiness.

*Edit

Forgot why I was quoting you in the first place, lol..

Yeah, Parcells' eye for talent speaks for itself (I still feel stupid for laughing at him when I watched him bench Bledsoe in favor of ****), so it bodes well for Flacco if he was on Parcells list. I wish Bill would come over here to the dark side; but you know how old people love that Florida weather!

Instead of starting a new thread about Flacco, I thought I'd use this one.
