Willie Colon's Out For The Season

The Steelers offensive line was already thin and pretty weak to begin with. They struggle getting short yardage in 3rd down situations already. Willie Colon isn't a pro bowler but he is a big part of that offensive line. What does this mean for their offensive line and offense because of this loss?

I think they're pretty thin at OT. But as we always say "next man up!". Its a shame for him though. As for the Steelers, they'll just have to adjust and I'm sure they will.

This offseason has been horrible for the Steelers. This is a huge loss for them, they were hoping to revamp their OL this year. They've added a little bit of depth, but this is their best OL player on the team.

We'll have to see how their young guys step up.

With the eighth pick in the 2011 NFL draft, the Pittsburgh Steelers select...

J/k, but this really has been an unfortunate offseason for them.

It's never a good thing when a player is ruled out before the season even starts. I can't help but chuckle that something has gone against Pittsburgh again.

2 straight seasons of no playoffs for the Pittsburgh Steelers?
Let's just say history is setting itself up to repeat, the last time Pittsburgh missed back to back playoffs was in 1999 and 2000 when they were 6-10 & 9-7 respectively.

Fast Forward to 2009, miss the playoffs at 9-7 and it would be really weird if they go 6-10 and miss the playoffs in 2010.

Oh and hey I certainly wouldn't mind history repeating itself 10 years later if it means the Ravens ending the season holding the Lombardi trophy. :ICONATOR_01040da29c18a4eed76047

lol that would be interesting if they were to pick 8th overall in the draft next year, though knowing their luck they would probably have Marcel Dareus fall to them at 8, and he is suppose to be the top 3-4 DE coming out next year.

Back on topic, we already knew their offensive line was bad, and what keeps them from losing more games is Ben's ability to scramble the way he does, if he was more of a pocket QB the Steelers would have lost more games. Now with Ben gone for 4-6 games, and Bryon being more of a Pocket QB, and now losing their RT for the season... Bryon will be sacked plenty, Mendenhall won't have holes to run through and when Ben gets back he'll have less time to scramble.

I predict at most and judging by their first 4 games, Falcons, Titans, Bucs and Ravens, I can see 1-3 with their only win coming against Tampa. Falcons have an improved defense with Robinson at corner and adding Sean Weatherspoon to the mix at Linebacker, Titans got a steal with Derrick Morgan and Morgan will put pressure on the Steelers offensive line, even McCoy and Brian Price may cause trouble for the Steelers, and well I expect a regular normal Ravens-Steelers game where both lines will cause trouble for one another. So there I predict 1-3 the Steelers record will be when Ben comes back for the Cleveland game.

I don't know who he is, but that does sound like something that would happen to them.

I think Ben makes the line look a bit worse than it really is sometimes. Profootballfocus gave Colon the third best ranking among tackles and the highest of all right tackles so his loss should impact them.

It's tempting to right the Steelers off for those first four games, but even last year when they were bested by the Chiefs, Raiders, and Browns, teams like the Ravens, Packers, and Vikings still managed to lose to them. They will be facing two of the tougher opponents at home (Atl, Bal) and with the Falcon's streakiness and Baltimore's propensity to lose to Pittsburgh (especially in Pittsburgh), they might finish 3-1 or even 4-0.
(For more depressing stats, see Pitt's 11-2-1 against Atlanta and 10-4 record against Baltimore in Pittsburgh)

That said, I'm going to guess that they'll go 2-2 with wins against TB and Atl/Bal.

I tend to disagree. I think Tampa may be able to beat them. Leftwhich isn't the best QB, and the Bucs have a good CB tandem with Aquib Talib and Ronde Barber. Plsu D line isnt bad with rookies DE Gerald McCoy and DT Brian Price. Tampa may be able to beat Steelers. Plus their CB's got like what only 1 INT out of whole year, if Freeman can take the next step in his career he could lead the Bucs to a victory.

The Bucs have one good CB in Aqib Talib; Ronde Barber has fallen the past few seasons.

Atlanta doesnt have bad defense with Abraham, Peria jerry, Sean Witherspoon. They also got decent coners with Brent Grimes and Dunta Robinson. They have Decoud at FS, who is just a hard hitting saftey. Plus Curtis Lofton. The way Steelers O-line is, I think Falcons D-line will fail. But who knows maybe rookie Maurkice Pouncy plays at RT or something.

For a team that has had a suspect OL for a while this is a HUGE loss for the Steelers. I have a feeling this is going to be a horrific year for the yellow and black.

Well, Schefter just tweeted that Flozell Adams is currently visiting with Pittsburgh. The Steelers aren't waiting very long to address the situation.

According to RavensInsider:

"News gets worse for the Steelers: rookie offensive lineman Chris Scott to have surgery Wednesday for foot injury suffered while working out."

A player with more penalities than Frank Walker ... this should be fun.

Flozell is probably their best option right now. Too bad they are a little late to get into the Jammal Brown sweepstakes that the Redskins won. Good news for us.

Im not going to lose any sleep over the steelers problems but i wish him a speedy recovery. We may not have Reed most of this season so it wont be a cake walk for us either.

Looks like Pittsburgh won't be bringing in Adams right now. Flozell's looking for $4 million for the year and the Steelers aren't willing to pay that much. Seems that they might move Essex to Left Tackle and Starks to the right tackle.

I heard Flozell was looking for a big contract. If the Steelers and Redskins don't want him, what other option does Flozell have? He needs to take a significant pay cut if he wants to play in 2010.

He'll probably wait it out until the training camp injuries start.
