2010 Patriots

So what do you all think about the Patriots in this up coming season? I personally think that they will be fighting with the Bills over 3rd place in the AFC East. I have a good friend who is confident that they are going to make a Superbowl run this season, I just don't see it happening.

They'll be good, and they definitely will not be fighting the Bills for third place. The Jets might possibly be the most overrated team in the NFL as we speak. Just because you add old, over the hill veterans does not make you a SB team. The Dolphins will be a force, IMO. As long as Brandon Marshall can stay healthy/stay out of trouble, and if Ronnie can also play injury free, watch out for them. But the Patriots have three reasons to still be considered a SB team: Tom Brady, Randy Moss and Bill Bellicheck. As long as that core is still intact, you can never write them off.

I say they win the division with the Jets behind them. The Dolphins will need one more year for Henne reach his true potential.

As long as they have Tom Brady, they'll be allright. The loss of Welker will be big, but they are very good with the next man up.

Depite the Jets adding a lot of new toys. This is still the Patroits division. Belichick will quickly learn gameplans against Rex.

I am with Romo & PU on this one. As long as they have Brady & Belichick, New England will be fine. Belichick is probably one of the most smartest coaches in the NFL IMO. I don't see them fighting for third place either. 2nd at the very lowest and would be amazed if they finished any lower than that point. My bets is on Miami or New England taking that conference.

I don't think they'll get far in the playoffs though. I am expecting to see Baltimore make a serious push this season and for Carson Palmer to get his first playoff win. A possible AFC Championship between Cincinnati and Baltimore, anyone?

I do have October 17th marked down as a loss for New England though. :)

People seem to forget the defensive mastermind that Bill is. The man is a genius when it comes to pre-game strategies.

Who knows now, Benson just got arrested so you have to think that he's going to have a multi week vacation at some point..hard to see the Bungles surviving through that one

As soon as I said that I saw the news and instantly thought to myself, so much for my bold prediction.

I have to agree with you on the surviving part.

All I can say is that out absolute demolition of the Pats in the playoffs was one of the most satisfying feelings ever. Just to finally beat the Patriots after getting screwed out of beating them the last two times was great..but to make them pay like that, and to do IN Foxboro was even better.

Watching the Pat's defense fold, watching Brady run for his life and throw int after int, seeing Pat's players obviously give up in the 2nd half because they knew they were done..priceless.

It was indeed. We didn't win the Super Bowl last year, but we'll all be able to look back on that game and feel better about it.

It is going to be hard to be a contender with all the stuff they have going on. From Logan Mankins holding out to possibly another lineman Nick Kaczur being out for the season and now the possibility of losing DE Ty Warren for the season.

Update: Ty Warren is Out for the Season.

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2010/08/13/ty-warren-is-done-for-the-season/
The Patriots placed Ty Warren on injured reserve Friday afternoon, ending his season. We first learned Warren could miss the season about an hour ago, and it looks like he's decided to undergo surgery on his torn labrum.
I don't know.... it seems as if the Jets or Dolphins could take the AFC East this year if the Patriots continue to have problems.

I bet the Patriots wished they drafted Jared Odrick now.

Chad Henne.

That guy determines what happens in the AFC East. If he has a breakout year, which I think he will, the AFC East will be in for quite the surprise. The Phins are overlooked this year both offensively and defensively. Everyone talks about Revis and Cromartie being the CB tandem in the league let alone the east but Miami is pretty stacked at CB with Sean Smith and Vontae Davis both very promising young guys. Plus with the addition of Karlos Dansby it gives Miami a fierce inside game.

To sum it up, if I were the Jets/Patriots/Bills I'd watch out for Miami.

Lets not forget who they have signed...a probowl WR, superbowl champion in Torry Holt. Yes he is past his prime, but he can still dominate the field. Holt will probably be the #3 guy and will help stretch the field beside Moss while Welker controls the midddle of the field.

Holt will be mediocre this season. Thats about it. Maybe he will be good because Brady is tons better than Garrard but I don't see him making much of an impact except as a bandaid until Welker comes back.

As for the AFC East, this is how I see it breaking down based on their schedules the first number being the most probable scenario

1st: Miami Dolphins 12-4 or 11-5: Chad Henne has been given all the weapons to suceed this year including a ferocious run game and a top 5, possibly top 3 receiver in Brandon Marshall as well as a solid offensive line and a complete, solid defense. And, the CB tandem is young and feirce as well as their front seven with Karlos Dansby, rookie Jared Odrick, and young star Cameron Wake who I think will explode this year.

2nd: NE Patriots 9-7 or 10-6, possibly 8-8: The Pats have a tough schedule this year but as long as they have Brady and Moss they will be solid. McCourty should help their secondary and rising star Jerod Mayo should help stabilize the run D along with the league's best NT Vince Wilfork. Their O-line and DE injuries may hurt but this team should still be fighting for a playoff spot and could get the wild card. It varies a little based on the Mankins holdout.

3rd: NY Jets 7-9, 8-8, or 6-10: This is a little jumbled because we don't know when Revis is coming back. But basicly, they won't get a playoff spot because although they have some quality players all the holdouts show one major flaw, they aren't a team. Also, they are simply overrated and are letting the media fool them into thinking they are a frontrunner for the Super Bowl (just like they are fooling some Ravens fans into thinking we will get dominated in the playoffs because of our corners). Also, Shonne Greene, LT, Jason Taylor, Santonio Holmes, and Mark Sanchez both won't do as good as expected which will make their offense do much worse.

4th: Buffalo Bills 2-14, 3-13: The Bills actually managed to get WORSE this offseason by losing TO and Aaron Schobel. It is hard to become worse when you are that terrible of a team. But alas, they did, and their play this year will prove that. As well as their lack of competence as a franchise. If they took Anthony Davis in the first and Jimmy Clausen in the second, I would actually give this team a slight chance to reach .500. But they are stupid as an FO, so they will suck.

I hope he's alright. Maybe he could've wrapped the finger in a yellow flag?

Maybe I'm biased, but I think Ngata is the best Nose Tackle in the NFL.

Also, I wouldn't be so quick to say Shonn Greene isn't going to meet expectations. I know Thomas Jones was the featured back last year, but he wasn't the only reason the Jets were the best rushing team in the NFL. They have a great Offensive Line. Greene also has the same benefit as Rice with a sturdy veteran in LT behind him (or I guess possibly in front of him) to handle some of the carries, resulting in less carries, but better overall production. I can understand your list of slumping Jets players, but I don't put Greene in that category.

You aren't biased, you are just wrong. Ngata is not a NT, he is an RE in the 3-4 or a DT in the 4-3.

Thomas Jones is an animal, and Greene is good but not nearly as good as some think. Not to mention they lost Alan Faneca which hurts and could lose D'Bricksaw Ferguson to a holdout (I think he hasn't signed yet and I'm too lazy to google it).

Also, LT is not a sturdy veteran. What is this, 2007?

I mean in a sense that Ngata demands double teams and opens up lanes for our Lbs...in that sense, he is. I just agree with Jeff Saturday that he's the best Defensive Tackle in the league right now, which would put him above Wilfork. Sorry for the confusion.

How can you say Greene isn't as good as some people think when you have nothing to base that on? Also, what is this, July? Ferggy signed an extension over a month ago.

When I say sturdy, I mean he's a solid #2 Running Back. You can't argue that LT isn't a great complementary #2, even this late in his career. Not mention a great mentor to Greene.
