Offensive Adjustments

39 posts in this topic

With Cam Cameron now on board, it is my hope we'll finally get to see some AFC worthy offense on the field. Meaning more spread formations with 4 receiver sets with a single back in the backfield with the QB out of the shotgun. Also more sporadic no-huddle offense. I'd thought that Billick was to have installed this kind of open offense last year with Ozzie having signed or drafted talent to carry off this style of play, but Billick, ever being the idiot, somehow failed to get the memo. Billick, with his NFC influenced background, could never get away from the 2 TE, 2 backs out of the I formation, establish the run and pass out of play-action mentality. And NFL teams ate him up for his lack of imagination and inability to adapt his philosophy to take advantage of rule changes affording offenses more flexibility. I see Cam taking advantage of Figurs field stretching speed, D. Williams ability to run exact routes, Mason's ability to improvise when plays break down and Masons combination of field stretching speed and ability to go over the middle. And I know Cameron would never overlook talents like Devard Darling who saw playing time only after injuries had decimated the receiving corps. A Billickless offense is already a great change and a step up.

More carries for Cory Ross. He's a good change of pace back when McGahee needs a breather.

A more consistent offensive line. Who cares who is how old. Just put the best unit out there that gives the QB time to throw.

Establish a more vertical passing game so they can hit more big plays.

Find a legit QB <priority #1>

Lets get a Lorenzo Neal type fullback! I think the big factor for LT making those breaks is because Lorenzo gives him those blocks.

that rookie we got out of the draft is really good.....i think our offense could use some new line men and maybe a new reciever....

It seems that they are starting to solve the O-line thing when they hired their new O-line Coach today and a new RB coach who can bring Ross up to maybe repeat what happened in San Diego with LT and M. Turner. The staff is closer to being done, so that mean soon we should start hearing about any new contracts for players (Suggs?).

Or maybe we should liken Ross to Darren Sproles (spelling?) instead...

Can't believe nobody's mentioned this: PLAY ACTION!

Play Action is a very big key. Especially in the Red Zone! I don't think Billick even knows what a play action is lol. I mean, its not like he needed to call any play actions in Minnesota. Everyone knew they were all about the passing instead of the running.

Not just calling a play action, but they need to train whoever our QB is to be very good at it. I have never been fooled with any of our play actions at all. Plus it doesn't even look like the defenses we go up against falls for it.

You know what a good play action is, if the camera man follows the RB instead of staying on the QB! We need those type of play actions!

lol i know what you mean. we need to learn to make sure that we really do "fake" our hand-offs. not a real good job, becasue it just looks like they're goin through motions. if we get that execution down, that would really play a factor in not only our red zone offense, but our offense overall.

which is why we have a new staff in which has a Great Background with not just one or two of our new coaches...but ALL our coaches have excellent backgrounds which can/will help this team find its identity and continue to move forward and make positive progress for the better.
