Verizon Changing Names... And Verizon Iphone Information Released....

Verizon Wireless is dropping the Wireless name... so it'll just be "Verizon".

But more importantly... Verizon has confirmed it will NOT be carrying the Iphone. They're going to continue with their Android software phones. Odds are the Iphone will never come to Verizon.

Guess I'm switching to At&t in November.

It's not surprising that they wouldn't carry the iPhone since the Droid came out and squashed any chance of Verizon carrying the iPhone.

That's a shame... the Motorola Droid and Droid Incredible are beastly and blow the iPhone out of the water, in my opinion. Don't get caught up in the hype surrounding the iPhone. Once the new Google OS comes out for the Droid, your tune may change a bit.

I have a Droid (personal) and a 3GS (Hospital)... my Droid is rooted with Froyo on it. The Droid is a good phone, but I definitely prefer the Iphone OS to Android OS because of the nature of my profession.

I hope eventually they will go the route of game consoles and start crossing over. Sadly, it will probably take years, or decades, for them to transition... Maybe they'll do the whole Windows/Mac deal and try to stay apart forever. Someone is going to end up being the Beta to the other's VHS though... Who will it be?

15-20 years Mac will overtake Windows on a consumer level- I'm not sure about Corporate though. The current generation have grown up with Ipods, Iphones, Macbooks and have gone out and bought them on a pretty substantial scale. in 15-20 years when these teenagers and 20 year olds hold the majority of purchasing power... Apple will trump Microsoft.

Platform transition is a process and will happen if:

Macs get cheaper
Macs get top hardware for the same price of PC

I don't think it will happen, Mac has its niche and intends in keeping it, not expanding it.

I'll never buy a Mac; they're way overpriced and simply not practical enough for everyday use.

I hate the Droid. My son got an obvious lemon, and they refused to take it back and made us get another one via insurance, that phone did everything but spontaneously combust lol The GPS even quit/re-boot in the middle of a trip

The price issue is big and the software issue is huge. If I have to jump through hoops to use certain software, I'm avoiding it. That and there's zero motivation for regular companies to transition. Sure, more media, advertising and similar companies use Macs for the better setup, but mainstream companies just using Word and Excel have no motivation to jump over because they associate those programs with PC's and have basic junk units, and many people base their home purchases on business use.

I agree that Mac will become more prominent based on the niche marketing and generational development. This is one of those social-economic crossover issues that I love to delve into.
