Take A Look At Our Team

25 posts in this topic

I was just thinking over the players that this team has and I have to say, we are built to win. Every position we have (if some heal up and some reportedly improve) is either good to great.

Wide Receiver we have 3 very capable vets up to the starting spot. We have the muscle as our number one. We have the finesse as our number two. And we have a the speed at Number 3. Number 4 we can either have another experienced vet (Clayton or Williams), a big body to outjump corners (Anthony or Riley), or another speedster in David Reed.

O-Line we have tons of youth anchored by a great vet at the helm. Specialty is run blocking and maybe with the additions of new receivers we'll have better pass blocking.

Runningback/Fullback we have Probowlers throughout, don't even have to mention it.

TE is kind of the same as OL. Have a lot of youth at the position with a playmaking vet at the helm.

D-Line/Linebacker has TONS of depth and talent. As we saw with Bannan and Edwards, most of our DL might not be starters on this team, but they'd be starters on other teams (Antwan Barnes). We also have probowlers in Ngata, Pryce, and Gregg on our line. We have one of the greatest, if not, the greatest linebacker of all time commanding our linebacking crew along with one of the ugliest, (play-wise and look wise :P) Linebacker/DE hybrids with Terrell Suggs and on the other side you have an under the radar vet how has some playmaking ability in pass coverage with his soft hands and can also blitz like a demon. Unlike last year, this year D-Line should be a strength of this team. We have a mix of pass rush specialists and run stuffers in there.

Our secondary CAN potentially be a strength this year (or at least tremendously improved on) and here's why. First off, Foxworth and Carr will have another year of experience under this system. They are very talented players. Foxworth shut down Moss pretty well in the playoff game because we actually had a pass rush that game. Carr with his size is best suited as a nickelback we all know that. Webb emerged as a great cornerback last year. Whether he returns at the start of the season or not it doesn't matter because when he comes back, he's going to pick up right where he left off. Remember, Webb said he isn't rushing anything. He said he's going to be back when HE'S comfortable so I have no doubt he'll come back in top form. Not to mention he has also added some upperbody strength this offseason too. Safties we have some great depth led by Ed Reed. No problem there.

Now with the signing of Marc Bulger we have GREAT insurance incase Flacco goes down, probably the best backup QB in the league considering all the experience he has. Honestly, if Flacco does get injured (God forbid), I still think our offense won't miss a beat with the receiving threats and running game we have with an experienced QB under center.

Anyway, I'm loving the way our team looks. We are set and ready to go win that championship. The key to our Superbowl hopes is depth and we sure have a lot of it.

and to learn about the new Raven,

Obviously looks like a Raven based on Ozzie and John's philosophy of character.

EDIT: On second link click the soccer button next to the volume to hear the VuVuzelas. I laughed the first time.

Yes, the team is built pretty well and I'm excited to see them on the field. However, there are some points you made I disgaree with.

At this point in his career, I wouldn't call Heap a "playmaker". He made a few big plays late last season but not consistently.

With Webb, even when he's comfortable, to say he'd be the same player he was in '09 when he steps on the field this upcoming season is nothing more than assumption. He may feel confident planting and cutting in practice but that may not be the case in a rea game.

And as for Bulger, I'm not convinced the offense wouldn't miss a beat if Joe went down. He'd get better pass protection but his skills have still diminished and I think Cam would go back to the "ground n' pound" offense we saw in '08.

P.S. It's insignificant but I don't think Gregg has ever made the Pro Bowl. He hasn't really played like one since '06.

But he has made the 2006 All-Joe team, which is definitely more prestigious

Oh my bad I could have sworn Gregg has made a Pro Bowl. I should have checked.
At this point in his career, I wouldn't call Heap a "playmaker". He made a few big plays late last season but not consistently.
I think it's just because Flacco didn't target Heap as much in the beginning of the season. I saw more out of Heap towards the end. Heap has also said he is feeling healthier than he has been in a while and will still be a big goaline threat for us this year with his height. I get what your saying about consistency but you also have to take into account about how comfortable Flacco got with checking it down to Ray Rice.

I'll give you that. Now that I look back at it it really was an assumption. We'll just have to wait and see.

I don't think that would be the case. Maybe if Troy Smith or Beck were the backups then yeah we'd run the ball a whole lot more. But Bulger, even though not as good as he used to be I guess (I never really followed him), can still most likely be able to manage the game with the receiving talent and protection we have now. It's not like in St. Louis where he has no weapons. The experience is still there when being able to read defenses. He's proven he can do that but there might be question marks just because he hasn't had much to work with in St. Louis recently. With upgrades all around him, chances are he can still do pretty well.

Like most on this board (especially since its the offseason and most of the regulars are still here just about every day), I'm soooo excited for every season to get under way, but this offseason just has that "feel" to it. I can't freakin wait. I sometimes just sit in my basament, with my purple pool table, my Reed, Lewis and Flacco jerseys on the wall and just wonder.......

Is this the year? Are we going to grab another? I don't know....its early, but it sure has that "feeling"

I envy your Purple Pool Table!!!!

It does look like this may be our year. Even though the "experts" are saying the Jets are going to be this and that. Okay I know they picked up alot of big names, but they were literally handed the playoffs last year and then they got hungry. This is OUR year not the New Jersey Jets year

They WERE handed the playoffs. And big names don't make for a Superbowl team. Look at the Redskins and Raiders.

Jet's will finish 8-8 this season, AT BEST.

I really thought that was stupid statement at first about the Jets going 8-8. I checked their schedule. It is ridiculously hard. I think 8-8 is about right to be honest with you. Their division could be harder than our division.

Jets Schedule below-Unless Sanchez lights it up, and starts throwing td's instead of interceptions then I see 8-8

Week 1: Jets vs Baltimore
Week 2: Jets vs New England
Week 3: Jets at Miami
Week 4: Jets at Buffalo
Week 5: Jets vs Minnesota
Week 6: Jets at Denver
Week 7: Jets vs Bye
Week 8: Jets vs Green Bay
Week 9: Jets at Detroit
Week 10: Jets at Cleveland
Week 11: Jets vs Houstan
Week 12: Jets vs Cincinnati
Week 13: Jets at New England
Week 14: Jets vs Miami
Week 15: Jets at Pittsburgh
Week 16: Jets at Chicago
Week 17: Jets vs Buffalo

Yes they were Twoo. I cant believe Sanchez got so much hype for a HORRIBLE season. His best performance of the year was that pump fake on Freeney in the AFCCG that he connected with Edwards on. I didnt know what to be more shocked about, Sanchez faking out Freeney, Sanchez completing a pass, or Edwards catching the ball!

To be honest, I'm expecting 1-5 at the BYE.

Week 1: Jets vs Baltimore-L
Week 2: Jets vs New England-Could be either but because of homefield i'll give them a W
Week 3: Jets at Miami- L
Week 4: Jets at Buffalo- W
Week 5: Jets vs Minnesota- L
Week 6: Jets at Denver - Could be either, but I don't see the Broncos being good especially on O soW
Week 7: Jets vs Bye
Week 8: Jets vs Green Bay - L
Week 9: Jets at Detroit - W
Week 10: Jets at Cleveland - W
Week 11: Jets vs Houstan - They do have this at home, so it could go either way but I'll give it to them W
Week 12: Jets vs Cincinnati - The Bengals are just too good this season L
Week 13: Jets at New England - L
Week 14: Jets vs Miami - W
Week 15: Jets at Pittsburgh - L
Week 16: Jets at Chicago - W
Week 17: Jets vs Buffalo - W

So I see 9-7, with a high of 10-6 and a low of 6-10

Not even on our level

yeah i was counting them beating the bills and dolphins, but i think now the phins can take the jets
Well the phins actually beat the Jets twice last season, and i actually expect them to be even better this year.

I was just telling someone that i really like the Dolphins coming out of the East this year. I like their young Defense, i like their rushing attack and i really like Chad Henne. I actually wanted him in a Ravens uniform a few years ago until i watched the Delaware Southern Illionis playoff game on ESPN and seen Joe.

I could see the Jets repeating their 9-7 season from a year ago, but i can't see much more then that. I mean it's hard right now to say what will or won't happen but. I think the Jets caught a lot of breaks last season and i can't see it happening for them again this year. So we'll see.
