Can the season pa-LEASE just start? This question is already being discussed and shot down on several other threads (involving Bulger).

Where isn't the value in either of our guys...?

Beck got cut by the Dolphins so he is nothing. And I know there are going to be so many Troy Smith lovers come and tell me I'm wrong but he is worthless too. He hasn't played in anything meaningful, which isn't his fault but it doesn't mean he is going to be great. There are a lot of backups that haven't played a down in the NFL, but doesn't mean they will be great

I think you're confused, or you quoted the wrong post. We're saying the same thing, I just said it in one sentence.

Actually on second thought. We could get like a late first rounder, early second rounder for Smith. He is great, he won the Heisman???

I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm thinking:

Smith for Aso and a 2nd
Beck for Patrick Willis

I can justify these if need be.

No justification needed. Everyone already knows that donning the purple immediately increases a players trade value by one full Madden letter grade.

Well I think that if any of them have trade value we will probably look for late round picks for either one of them. That would be the ideal situation instead of out right cutting/releasing one or both of them.

But the only way we could get any value out of them is if we attach them to a pick or another player (Gaither,McGahee, ETC) but I really doubt that at this point.

It would actually be funny to trade Troy and Gaither as a set because it would be like an Offense Starter kit for some team haha.

But seriously, thats not gonna happen.

It's a bold strategy, we will see if it pays off. Willis for Beck might be a bit of a stretch but Smith is definitely worth Aso and a 2nd. At least

Well, seeing as Smith doesn't want to be here, we should just grant him his release and move forward. Nobody wants to give up picks for him or he would have been gone already. However, if we wait until during/after Training Camp, there are bound to be injuries, so he it's possible that he could bring some value...

All joking aside I think Smith has talked his way out of Baltimore. He's already made it clear he wants to start which is something he will never do here. For that reason alone I say its Smith who leaves. Whether we cut him or pry a 6th or 7th rounder from someone it doesn't really matter.

The other reason is more about playing style. Beck is more of a drop back pocket passer than Smith. Not to say Smith can't do those things but Beck's game is similar to Flacco so the offense doesn't have to change as much if Flacco goes down and Beck has to come in. At least in theory.

well.. aso makes no sense. maybe for us, but not for oakland.. they will not trade him this year.. they already got jason cambell so they wont want another quarterback until he fails them also nnamdi's contract is WAY to expensive for the ravens to trade for and also the raiders simply do not want to get rid of him.. does not seem plausible whatsoever.

I think they were just kidding around, dude. Nnamdi is an elite cornerback and Oakland won't be moving him anytime soon.

I get the feeling that a lot of people around here don't really care who the CB is they just want the Ravens to get one. He could be a 2nd year player that has nothing but potential and would be in the same position as KJ Gerard, Marcus Paschal or Cary Williams. People act like there are just pro bowl caliber or even starting caliber Cornerbacks just floating around waiting to be signed by the Ravens or traded for. It's not gonna happen.

I'd much rather see how guys like Gerard, Paschal, Willimas and Miller perform in camp then to go out and trade for another 2nd or 3rd year player that might have had a bigger name in college but has done nothing in the NFL.

Ozzie and the Ravens have proved again and again that talent isn't judged by the round you were drafted or the school you attended. We've also proved as a defense that a really good pass rush makes a secondary look much better. When you really think about it, the Ravens have never really had a dominate secondary. We've always had stars in the secondary but never really a completely dominate one. Think about it, who other then Cmac, Reed, Rod, and maybe even Rolle can you say was a top notch defensive back for the Ravens. Gary Baxter?, Will Demps?, Dawayne Starks?, well even Ronnie Prude looked good in 2006 when we had a great pass rush.

The point i'm trying to make is that we've had guys that played well together and was able to take advantage of a great pass rush, and that will be exactly what we'll need this secondary to do.

I look at the Ravens 2010 secondary much like the 2008 offensive line. Everyone was down on those guys heading into training camp. Hell even some well respected former Ravens olinemen were on record saying how bad this oline was and how any QB that lined up behind them would get killed. Then what happened......

Those guys came together on the line and opened enough holes for the three headed monster to be one of the best rushing attacks in the league. They Protected Flacco enough to allow everyone to go Wacco for Flacco. They blocked well enough to lead this team to the AFC Championship game and lead many of the same fans that complain about the secondary to view them as one of the best young offensive line groups in the NFL.

Everything doesn't always look prefect before training camp, and most times when it does look prefect that team ends up dissappoint when the season starts. Just look at the Browns from a few years back, they explode on offense, leaving a lot of Ravens fans jealous and angry that those guys seemed to be making all the right move with Phil Savage and the Ravens looked old and beat up with McNair. Then what....well you don't have to be that smart to figure out how the two teams turned out.

The thing is, it's ok to want your team to improve or to have probowler at every position, but the fact of the matter is that it rarely happens and when it does happen it's hard to keep those guys together for long. Sometimes you've just got to have faith in the young unproven guys on the roster and hope they can perform up to the level of the other guys around them. Much like Ellerbe last season, the guy came from nowhere and now is a starter on our defense. So if he can do it why can't one of the other young guys?

As for Beck or Smith getting traded and who? I think Smith would be the guy to leave be it trade or release. I just get the feeling that the Ravens will give him what he's been asking for, and he may even ask to be released now knowing he'll be no more then a 3rd QB.

I didn't read all of that, but most on this board are happy/content with the CB situation. Its just the select few that are :deadhorse:
