Offensive Line Work

10 posts in this topic

Earlier in the offseason I read that Greg Mattison was working on heavily on the pass rushing technique for our defense.

To flip onto the other side I was wondering if our O Line coaches were trying to work on pass blocking for our O Line. I think we already have a great run blocking O Line but we could use some work in pass blocking. Anyway, it's just a question so an answer would be appreciated.

They're going to focus on both.

But since we're talking "heavily", well it'll really depends upon our scheme. The bigger question is, will we actually have an identity this year? I'm sure if we plan on passing the ball 60% of the time, pass blocking improvement will be a great area of focus.

But if we want to be that ball controlling team of the past, the focus will be more on run blocking. All in all, they're going to work on both in training camp.

The fact that our receivers will finnally be able to get open will help our line a lot.

If you looked at most of the sacks last season, the pass blocking was beautiful, but our receivers were not open at all and Flacco had to take the sack.

Even if they aren't focused on pass-blocking, its bound to be better for us

I think the coaches are working extermely hard on pass blocking, even all the way back to making Flacco even more mobile in the pocket and having better awareness.

I think if the Oline can stay healthy they'll be a really good pass blocking unit. The Ravens gave up 36 sacks last season which is a average of just over 2 sacks per contest.

I think when you combine the fact that Oher will be in his second year, Birk will be in his second season with the team, and everyone should start the season healthy, the Ravens will improve on their pass protection.

Good point. I've been so caught up in everything else I forgot about how this O-line is going to improve with those two gaining overall (Oher) or unit (Birk) experience. I think the x-factor is who's playing right tackle and how that will develop.

i fully expect Gaither to buckle down and be a great team player. He'll play RT and be a dominate one in my opinion. I think he'll find much greater success in Baltimore being a pro bowl caliber RT on a SuperBowl caliber team, rather then being just a starting LT for another team.

Also Gaither has prove he can be a really good LT for the majority of a season, Oher has yet to prove it, so Gatiher could very well find himself back on the left side. We know Oher can play RT at a high level, but can he be the LT we think he is. only time will tell.

P.S. I think Gaither and Yanda will be down right nasty together this year.

Anytime our offense and defense go to work against one another, it's going to benefit both parties now.

Bring on Training Camp!!!

lol why would they work on pass blocking? Of course they aren't it's preposterous. In fact they aren't doing run blocking either. The O-Line is exclusively working on punting right now and then will be playing soccer for most of training camp.
