When Is Harbs Going To Get An Extension?

21 posts in this topic

I know Bisciotti is problably a little jaded after the Brian Billick fiasco and the fact we were /are still paying him a ton of money. The queastions I have are:

When will John Harbaugh get a new contract/extension?

What will it take for him to get it ( record, playoffs, ETC)?

What sort of season would it take for the Ravens Top brass to go in a different direction leading to the release of Harbaugh?

I think John has plenty to learn as far as in the moment type calls but you get that with time and experinece in the league. I wouldn't want anyone else leading my men into battle.
He has the ideal demenor with the Media, extrmeme commitment to make this team a yearly contendor and hard arse style of coaching but with that comes rewards. I think John is compassionate enough to get caught up in great moments but brash enought to tell the guys that they can do better and failing isn't an option.

Opinions?

I think Harbaugh would get an extension if the team advanced deep into the play-offs this upcoming season.

For them to go in a different direction, the team would have to implode the next two seasons. There's just too much talent on the team not to seriously compete every season.

I think Harbaugh should get an extension, but I haven't put much though into what Bisciotti thinks needs to occur for that to happen.

Bisciotti seems to have a no-nonsense approach to results. While I believe he likes Harbaugh's approach and values, I also believe he needs to see championships to invest in long-term contracts. I like that in him. He expects to win and he expects his staff to perform.

We'll see.

I hope Bisciotti extends Harbaugh. I can understand waiting until Harbaugh's contract is up or closer to the end of Harbaugh's contract, but if Harbaugh makes it to the playoffs and doesn't win, it would be foolish to let him go. I like the old days where a team stuck with a coach and let him work with a team for a long period of time. I mean even the Nazi general George Steinbrenner kept Joe Torre around for over ten years. Rotating coaches makes the franchise look bad and messes with the morale in the locker room. We made a good decision with Harbaugh, let's keep him around.

Harbaugh keeps discipline and focus in the locker room. The biggest test for Harbaugh is when Ray Lewis leaves. But I think that Harbaugh is a strong enough leader to keep the locker room together.

He's going into year 3 of a 4 year contract. The first year you're still dealing with some of the old regime. It's still to earlier to give him a contract. If we make it to the playoffs again this year, I can see a contract extension happening next offseason.

IMO, I like the guy. He's done some good things for this team, he still has a lot of room to learn however, but he's heading us in the right direction.

I'm a little wary of the situation. Harbaugh is an extremely successful coach, and I love his hard-nose style of coaching. But, we've seen how coaches can win the SB one year, then deteriorate the next. I know the situations don't always depend on the coaches, there are injuries, suspensions and so forth for the players. But it's up to that coach to make things better for the team, which I think Harbs is capable of doing. I'd give him two more years in order to realize his and the teams true potential to become a dynasty.

This will be a defining year for all areas of our football team. Can't wait.

I'm thinking like someone said, mid way through or next off-season. If we start off great like 6-0 or 8-0 he certainly could get something mid-way through. Though I can certainly Steve waiting for the season to be played out because of the uncertainy of the 2011 season. Either way I expect Harbs to get a well deserved extension but the question is, how long is the contract extension, another 4 year deal with more money or do we extend him with a longer deal like 5-6 years.

I say hold off on the extension and see how this season goes I like harbs but the ravens blew a lot of games last year on bonehead lack of composure plays now I don't place 100% of the blame on harbs but I gotta wonder how do the guys in the locker room view him is he to lenient and guys don't fear the repercussion of messing up I say if the ravens implode on themselves this year I say get gruden on the phone

I think after this season he will get one. He has had great success in his first 2 years but like Quarterbacks, it's the 3rd year where you really see where this team is headed.

I trust that he will be extended next year.

I think Harbs has done a great job, especially considering that most people were ready to jump out of a window when the guy was hired. I think he will be extended sometime next season. I strongly beleive the Ravens will win the Superbowl this year so that will only help.

I think the biggest thing for Harbs this year is to show improvement on his in game management like when to throw the red flag, and also the team will need to improve on the boneheaded penalties. Other then that i can't see any negatives with Harbs being the Ravens Head coach for the next 7-10 years.

I think Steve B wants to be more like the Titans, Steelers, Colts and Pats, and thats having a consistent presence at Head Coach every year good or bad. I think Harbs has shown everything you need to see from a good coach, now much like his young stud QB and team, it's time to take the next step.

I think Harbs will be extended, but his season over the next 2 seasons will determine just how long

I really like John Harbaugh, and look forward to us extending his contract - whenever that may be.

Me too, I hope we extend it for another 4-5 years. I want Harbs here for 10+ years!

It would be nice, wouldn't it? I think when they chose Coach Harbaugh, they chose him for values, integrity... they chose a real football man.

Hopefully that means he's around for a long time.

I was reading my 2009 Lindy's NFL Preview to take stock in how far the team has come since the 2009 preseason and I found this quote from Steve Bisciotti in its Ravens review (the contributor being Jamison Hensley):

"It is virtually the only thing that you can look at and say that's the constant. They've got a long-term coach and a long-term quarterback, and that's why they have a chance to get to the playoffs every year. So, yeah, I think that's the position we're going to be in."

Mr. Bisciotti was talking about the Colts, Patriots and Eagles being constant playoff contenders. That speaks fairly well to what the owner wants to do, and I think Coach Harbaugh fits that mold. We'll see an extended contract, barring some sort of disaster. It's just a matter of when, as others have stated already.

Take the Eagles off that list since they got rid of McNabb and I would think Reid will be the next to go, so they won't have a long term QB or Coach.

Hey Steve.... I'll tell you when.... either before Regular Season or mid-season. We now have both of which the Colts(even though Caldwell is a new HC) & Patriots have, Long Term QB in Joe and Long Term Coach in Harbs. Get Harbs locked in soon, as I said before I want him here for 10+ years and it would be awesome to see Harbs stay here for the duration of Joe's career. I would say get him locked in at 4-6 years at whatever the going rate is for a Head Coach and start our journey to Dallas!

Harbaughs = Success in Head Coaching.
Ryans = Mediocrity

We made the right choice!

So true.

Rex never would have made a good fit here- and his career in NY won't last 3 years.
