Will They Ever Learn?

Looks like the Titans are the next NFL team that has to deal with a player that placed himself in a position he should not have been in. Im expecting Goodell to eventually ban all players from going to strip clubs. What a idiot! My link

He's just a subject at this point, it's not like he's been charged. Regardless though, it's just one thing after another with football players this offseason. It's getting absurd. I can't recall another offseason that had something happen with players and the law (or banned substances) as much as this year.

Inflated sense of self +
Diminished inhibitions +
Reinforcement via special treatment =
---------------------------
Anyone (athletes or otherwise) behaving badly.

The reason certain athletes DON'T show up in these situations is because they have strong value sets or good advice. Some athletes don't start with that advantage or become overwhelmed with the silliness of their situation.

I'm not surprised people end up displaying base behavior given the opportunity. I'm surprised there isn't a better effort by the NFL to stop the ridiculousness.

If you give men who have a poor history.... MILLIONS OF DOLLARS... what do you expect? Hell, if I won the Mega Millions tomorrow you'd find me at 2am that night in a strip club getting 50 lap dances while my Ferrari was illegally parked outside with a bottle of Scotch on the passenger seat.

Interpol, Spetnaz and the FBI would have APB's out on me after about two weeks if I hit the lottery.

Here's a supposed video of the assault/confrontation.

I just don't want to read about one of our guys pulling crap like this. They've done a good job so far under the Harbaugh regime (knock on wood).

I think we have the right mindset to stay out of trouble. We have a team full of decent behaving people, along with a great, tough coach who won't let people run all over him with this crap.

That was my reaction when I heard this. I would love to be Roger Goodell and run the league(and the money he makes too is probably pretty good) but this has to be the worst off-season ever to be Goodell or any commish. We could probably go through this whole Other NFL Teams Section and pile up all the Player Issues that have been posted.... and merge it all to one thread and it would be 5-10 pages long.

That NFL Shield has tooken a beaten with all certain players and their off the field activities.

Over/Under... VY gets Suspended 6 Games... I'll definitly say Under and say 4 he gets suspended for 2-4 games.

If I'm an NFL player playing the Titans, I'm flashing a downward 'Hook 'em horns' sign at Vince all game long.

If Vince doesn't get suspended I'll be shocked. Can't believe all these sportswriters who say it won't happen. There is video evidence of him acting like a thug pushing, pulling and swinging at people to get to some guy.

Titans need to get their act together, sign CJ and tell your QB to grow the hell up. Texans might have a chance to win the division or wildcard this year after all.

It is times like these I wish I had a time machine to go back to middle school & show my English exactly why I never looked-up to pro-athletes. I got a C- on a "Who I Admire The Most..." report for putting my grandfather. He was a hard-working, honest man who'd always lend a helping hand where needed.

Being from Indiana though, I still don't see the NFL being half as bad as that night the Pacers were in Detroit... that was the fall of that whole organization.

A C-?? Wow must have been a very strict teacher or grading system for that report. I just feel bad for people who wrote a "Who I admire The Most..." on Ben Roethlisberger or any other players who have gotten in trouble, they probably got picked on for writing about someone who got in trouble. If I was still in school, and had to write an article on that subject and I picked an athlete it would be Shawn Michaels(he is a pro wrestler but still athlete) or any Ravens player. :ICONATOR_01040da29c18a4eed76047

I don't think anyone ever got an "A" in Mrs. Disser's class.

The problem with athletics is the money involved, there's too much of it floating around. You take a bunch of sob-story inner-city thugs, teach them how to throw a ball, get them signed up to a multi-million dollar contract and you're just asking for trouble.

I've said it a hundred times, I'd gladly take a job in sports for peanuts compared to what these guys are getting paid these days. Whatever happened to playing it just for the love of the game? That's why I like watching college ball more than anything, or even junior leagues -- they're just having fun.

I like the part where he double throat-pushed the little guy while he walked into the room and forearm shoved the seated female... all before swinging on the guy that did the upside down Longhorn. They didn't release the audio but I'm guessing the Drunkenese language barrier provided for some funny back and forth.

Vince Young, defending the honor of his alma mater one strip club at a time.

That's a pretty vast generalization. Bart Scott came from a horrible neighborhood and, besides his mouth, he's never gotten into any trouble that I can think of. There are many more examples just like Scott, he's just one of the most prominent - hell, some examples are even on our team now (Ray Rice for one). Sure, there are going to be bad seeds in any population, but I wouldn't dare generalize players that come from the inner-city as 'thugs', that's both disrespectful and ignorant.

Don't forget sob-story.

And I wasn't trying to sound disrespectful (or ignorant), as you stated Ray Rice along with dozens more (including Michael Oher) all had some sob-story, life on the streets background... they were some of the good seeds.

You only need to look at the headlines for the bad ones.

The OP's questions was, "Will They Ever Learn?" and I was just answering him in a roundabout way. Perhaps not the best approach, but I still think the message got conveyed. You start dealing in millions of dollars, you're just asking for headaches along the way.

That wasn't modworthy, Vince Young has not only taken a hit to his image but he reinforces negative stereotypes and perceptions of black QB's.

Everyone, please note that our Code of Conduct prohibits discussions that are political or racial in nature. These rules are in place because feelings run too strongly on those issues and can turn Ravens fan against Ravens fan. These are primarily FOOTBALL discussion forums and we wish to keep them that way and we also would like all members to feel "comfortable" with the topics being discussed.

Therefore, since this thread keeps slipping over into the political and racial arenas, it is being closed.
