Good Fishing Spots?

12 posts in this topic

I recently got in to freshwater fishing- nothing too major, just docks and pier type fishing. Wanted to know if anyone had some good recommendations for fishing spots. I know it's kind of taboo to give away your favorite hot spots... but figured I'd ask anyways!

I live right on the Chester River, so I'm probably no good in helping find good spots on the western side of the bay (I don't have to go far to get to good fishing - heck, I don't even have to leave my yard), but the Department of Natural Resources puts out some info now and then on the subject at the following site:

I hope that helps a bit.

It really depends on where you're willing to go and the what you expect to catch. I'm assuming you're looking for Bass Fishing? if so, I'm sure I can round up a few spots but we need to know your desired level of travel.

Zhamtao, one of my favorite all time little honey holes to go to is a backwater of the Chester River. I'm sure you know of Roundtop Road Bridge, right? It was washed out few awhuile and have not been back for a few years but i ALWAYS produce nice bass out of that water! Another favorite thing of mine to do is to hit those big Chester River catfish. I usually put out at either Ducks Neck campground or Deep Landing! I caught 2 10+ cats last year.

Truth be told, I don't know of any good areas in Maryland to drop line at. I live in Baltimore City... willing to travel up to an hour away, and yes- Bass is preferable but I also enjoy Catfish from time to time. I found a pretty good spot in Havre De Grace but it's so populated there that the good spots are pretty spotty now. Thus the thread =)

I'm a 5-min boat ride form Deep Landing and where I am the catfish are often a healthy 2-feet. The Crumpton Bridge and even further east produce some very big channel cats!

:o

The great part of the Chester River is you get everything from bass, perch and cats to crabs and bay fish... it's a wonderful ecosystem.

I did some research online, apparently Deer Creek and Centennial Lake are pretty good for Trout and Bass. Any experience with either?

no doubt man, I've even fished a few LMB tournamnets on the Chester River, have caught 30+Rockfish and monster perch. I used to fish under the Crumpton bridge alot, along the old pillings and such. Tons of snags but the payoffs were generally good. whan I said 10+ I was talking pounds, just so we're on the same page.

Twoo, an hour from Baltimore you can try Wye Mills pond. Decent bass fishery with all the usually subjects ( LMB, Pickeral, Crappie, Perch etc) Another place is about 1.5 hours from baltimore is Tuckahoe State Park, another good fishery with ample amounts of shore fishing available and even streams to canoe in. then you have a few , "not so legal places".... Off of Ft. Smallwood Road, a place I call KennyCott ( now I think its called Cox Creek Refinery) ponds, just pass Ft Armstead on your left, Kembo rd. there are also the ponds at Bowie State which is kind of legal...

Nope, but I'm sure they're excellent. The whole area is prime fishing.

All across Ontario ;) , have already seen about 8 different kinds of state plates driving around here, people from Florida come up here yearly solely just to fish. Our town holds a bass championship every year and we're in the record books behind the Calgary Stampede for most alcohol consumed at an event. You can basically catch anything around here bass, walleye, northern pike, muskies to even sturgeon. You want to have some fun fishing go try and catch a muskie. We call perch crappies around here as they aren't even worth your time.

Went EARLY this morning to Deer Creek, thought it was going to be a skunk but I ended up reeling a 9" rainbow on one of my last throws. Pretty hefty too. Only one catch, but it was relaxing.

Centennial is 2 seconds away from my house, it's more of a family park type deal. The lake is rather large but they have an over-population of Bass which means most of them are small. I have caught a few nice ones there before but It was verylate evening and a slow day at the park. Parking can sometimes be a Pain in the A also..... The trout that are in the water are Stocker trout, not native. By this time of year they are all fished out by now. There is decent Bluegill and Crappie fishing however.

As for Deer Creek, I've never heard of it. How about you check out Liberty or Loch Raven? You can rent boats and such. I've also had really good luck at Piney Run res.
