landry is a beast and hits like a man-truck...he will succeed Reed after retirement at that position, thats when he gets the long term deal so long as he doesnt relapse that injury.

@guitarscott, yes those three stats you listed are important, but it doesn't show how well they covered recievers, and i felt a lot safer when leonard was out there compared to now with landry. people say he looked lost last year, personally he has always looked a little lost

@kadbron to compare landry to reed is like comparing hemme to marino (i bring this one up cause i think its hilarious that the dolphins think this guy has a chance to be their best qb ever) it just doesn't make sense.

I would definitely rather have Zbikowski on the field, the guy start four games when reed was injured and had two interceptions. i feel like Zbikowski has a drive to play the game while landry is just there collecting a pay check

Guitar-Scott as much as I like Landry, I have to say your comparison chart is a bit skewed. You didn't take into account Jim Leonhard picked up 2.5 sacks last year. Furthermore, when he was with us in Baltimore he played very well in the play-offs. Which consequently was when people became enamored with him.

Yet that being said I would still have taken Landry over Leonhard. Like Landry said every game got better and better, and by mid-season he had his confidence back. His leadership also helped keep the group intact when we struggled with injuries. Landry is a great player, and this season will prove he deserves a long-term contract.

Landry is a far better player than Leonhard. You people still swinging from Leonhard's you-know-whats after all this time, need to seriously get the hell over it. YES, he played very well in 2008 when Landry was hurt. But the short memory some "fans" seem to have is hilarious. Landry was a much better player before he got injured, than Leonhard ever had been, and that still remains true today. Given his stats in his other seasons, chances are, had Landry not gotten hurt, he would have had a better season than Leonhard did in 2008.

I'm not saying Leonhard isn't a good player. He is. He's very physical, and a great punt returner besides. But despite all that, Landry is still the better player. There's a reason Leonhard was Landry's backup, and even if he were still on the team right now, he's STILL be Landry's backup. Landry has had 2 seasons with 80+ tackles, 2 seasons with 4+ INTs (each with 1 returned for a TD), and he's honestly the best SS this team has ever had (barring the time Reed spent at the position).

And considering the fact that he's only 27, his best play, so long as he can remain healthy, is still ahead of him. I wouldn't be surprised if he finally made the Pro Bowl in 2010, and he absolutely deserves to get a new long term contract from the Ravens. This is the kind of player you want on this team for a long time. With a mentor like Ed Reed, this guy could still go on to be one of the better S to ever play.

Guitar guy it isn't how many you get. It when you make them. If we're winning 34 to 7 and Landry makes a pick its not big & that's when he got most of his big plays last year. Jim Leonhard is a clutch player he shines when the pressure is on and, when we had him couple years ago he was a key component when we were one game from the Superbowl.

There is a reason why one of the top defensive coaches went out and got Leonhard and took him and Scott to NY. I am not saying we need to get Leonhard but to say Landry is a much better player is completely flawed. Landry will not replace Reed... The some of you have said he may not even return next season, use your head.

Fantastic news!
With Landry re-signed and Zibby also available in the safety position, what more can you ask for as a Ravens fan?
Oh right, re-sign McClain please!

Hopefully this bargaining agreement doesn't rule a lockdown next year, I'd hate to see it ruin our back to back Superbowl wins.

sorry but leonhard will never be better or equal to landry! besides, why are we even talking about him or even comparing him to a raven? he is not one of us anymore. neither is bart scott or there coach! loved em all when they were here but i my goodbyes a while ago when they left. they are now rivals just for the simple fact some of there best defenders came from bmore. glad we signed landry now whats the hold up with mcclain!!!!!! hes worth every penny hes asking for. wouldnt wanna play against the man in the future so lets not P him off!

I just hope Landry doesn't become gun shy after the spinal injury, as many do.

Are you serious? Didn't we establish at the beginning of training camp last year that he's anything but gun shy. 1st play of training camp ray rice shot for the A gap and Landry met him head on and tackled him in the backfield. And if that wasn't enough he had 70 solo tackles and 4 interceptions in the regualr season. You musta wrote that comment last year.
