Jared Gaither re-signed with the Ravens today. Which got me thinking by the end of the season who will be the starting Left Tackle?

I still think Gaither has the edge in length, technique and experience on the left side.. that said Oher still needs reps on the left and could make a case to start just incase Gaither gets injured again or tries to stir up some trouble next offseason.

Barring a trade, I don't see why Gaither wouldn't be the team's LT next season; he's one of the best in the league.

This is great news!!
Seriously, finding out Gaither is back made my day. I absolutely did not want to see him go, but for a minute there it looked like he was a goner.

So yes, finally this trade talk nonsense can R.I.P.

If you mean the rookie tackle that they just drafted, yes they lost him.....but that doesn't effect us.

This is really really good news. If we want to win a championship now, then bringing Gaither back was huge. I wouldn't be surprised to see the Bills come crying to us one more time, but the fact that Gaither finally signed is a major plus. Say what you want about work ethic and injuries, but you better be ready to be proven wrong if aren't a believer.

Oh god, please dont start up that buffalo bills trading for Gaither talk again just because some rook got hurt.
They couldn't bring themselves to making a real offer before, and things wont be any different now.
Until Buffalo comes to us with McKelvin and at minimum a 3rd, lets not beat that horse any longer.

Gaither is ours, which is a very good news.
Now, let's put all these trade talks to rest.
And it's time to STOP BEATING THE DEAD HORSE :deadhorse:

Actually isn't it time to amp up the trade talk? Now, as he has signed, we CAN actually trade him, which couldn't be done, when he was unsigned ;)

(I hope he stays, though )

Is anyone a bit surprised about this? I'm not! What choice does he and his agent have, now that the June 1st deadline has come and gone. I'm glad he's still here but, Demon said it the best: "Gaither Madness is not over. It is merely postponed a year."

Isn't it funny that he also returned to practice today, the day he signed his tender. It's a miracle, the foot injury is finally healed! There will be a huge "gaithering" at the Vatican today!

Can anyone say holdout!

Unless they find out he's the one who complained to the NFLPA.

Nothing's going to happen to whoever may have filed a complaint. What are they going to do? Cut him? Like I said in the other thread regarding the issue, that won't do anything but bring negative publicity to our team. Do you really want people thinking that the Ravens cut anyone who disagrees with the coaching staff or voices concerns to the Players' Association? Not to mention, cutting Gaither if he was the complainer would also hurt us on the field.

If they ever find out whoever may have complained, nothing will happen. Maybe they won't be resigned when their contract runs out, that's if anything were to happen to them. It was only OTAs and it was only a week. Not to mention, if the Ravens were practicing as hard as it's being let on, they worked enough to cover for one lost week of OTAs.

If someone took practice time from his teammates and coaches, there will be some return on that investment... Now, down the road, whenever.

I don't care what people think of the Ravens, but I sure think less of a man that calls out his team because practice was too rough.

"Insert foot here" - points to mouth. I thought he would be gone by seasons start, but looks like he'll be a Raven for atleast another year - something that I am very happy about

It wasn't "too rough" it was against the rules set by the NFL, ie illegal.
Because the NFL's rules are never wrong... Very few people, as a percentage, see it that way. But hey, good luck with that idea and voting for Ross Perot. :wootwoot:

That doesn't matter. The truth of the matter is (as silly as the rule may be) that the Ravens violated an NFL rule during their OTAs. You cannot punish a man for reporting a rule violation that the team is breaking, no matter how silly the rule is). Whether you care about what people think of the organization or not, Ozzie, Harbaugh and the rest of the front office and coaching staff do, they don't want negative publicity. I know I don't want it either. The Ravens are going about the whole thing just fine, own up to it, apologize, and move on.

I can honestly say I don't care about negative publicity that much either. However, as you said, it's Harbaugh and Ozzie's opinions that matter, not mine because they're in charge and I'm not.

But think about this. If negative publicity for a week or two or maybe even more puts a bad taste in the organizations mouth, then we'll sure be ready to tear it up even more come September.

It doesn't matter what percentage you think disagrees with the rules, they are there for a reason and no coach/team is above or exempt to that.

With Oher already named the starting LT, i don't get why you would waste time asking this question again? Gaither has been on this team for a couple of years now, and i have consistantly seen a couple things from him that will probably never change: his lack of work ethic, and he lack of consistency on the field. Don't get me wrong, Gaither is more than worth the 5th round pick we invested in him, he has the physical tools and size to be a premier LT in this league. If there is anyone in the NFL today that has potential to be the next Johnathan Ogden on size and skill set alone, its Jared Gaither imo. But he doesn't have what it takes in terms of work ethic. We followed Ogden for so long, the man worked so hard to improve his game every year from the start. He had something inside him that motivated him to give it his all every play and be the best he can be for the team. You see these traits in Micahel Oher. After i saw Oher playing LT last year, i instantly knew Oher had to be the starting LT long term, and he was only playing as a rookie too. You see Gaither handle some of the best ends and linebackers like a premier LT, but then the other half of the time he is just sloppy and doesn't look like he cares. Then he asks to be paid like he is a premier pro bowl LT. And yet another offseason he is slacking off and making excuses, skipping OTA and i'm sure he will be skipping or lazy at future workouts. Great to have him back, but he deserves to be demoted. Size can only take you so far.

saying im not a fan of cousins starting but ill admit his work ethic is good just needs to be more composed in the game. i was also saying that i was high on gaithers but im not going to root for him if im wasting my time. If you dont show up for practice and cant atleast call that shows how much you care for the team. i understand he wants to get paid but he could go about it the same way mcclain and landry are thru showing that your worth the money.

Then we'll perpetually disagree on the subject because you think it's about legal labor rules and I see football in an entirely different way.
