Schefter Reporting Ravens' Last Week Of OTA Cancelled

I gotta believe Harbs is absolutely spitting bullets right now. He just had a week of planned work pulled out from under him. Oh man, TC could get ugly.
I have to agree with you, Runnin Raven, when you get your practice sessions called on the reasoning toward things like this,, somebody, especially Harbaugh, must be fuming over this.

I just have to wonder who it was that caused this to happen.

Guys, the loss of the last OTA is no big deal! The only ones losing due to this is the rooks. They are the ones fighting for a spot and with the cancellation, it's just a missed opportunity for them to make one more impression. Hell, half or more of the vets aren't even participating.

To throw in my 2 cents: This is the same kind of thing that always seems to follow T.O. wherever he has gone. That's why I think this stinks of Rosenhaus.

The fact it was stated in the complaint that the players were spending too much time at the facility is all I needed to hear. Look at the progression:

(1) Gaither is called out by Harbs to be in camp.
(2) Gaither is moved to right tackle first day of camp.
(3) Gaither misses 2nd day of camp due to injury.
(4) Rosenhaus shops Gaither around the league attempting to formulate a trade.
(5) Gaither has not signed his tender throughout the off season.
(6) June 1st deadline arrives. Gaither loses his leverage. Can no longer negotiate with other teams. Must accept a
20% increase and play at right tackle or not play at all this season. Keep in mind playing a season at right
tackle could hurt his value next season when he becomes a UFA.

Now I'm not bashing on Gaither. I'm glad he's still here! It's his agent I'm dissing! But, in the end it's all just speculation.

Things have come a long way since Stringer died, teams are much more aware of the dangers of heat stroke and have doctors at practice. It's a little ignorant to compare this situation to his death, especially since you and I both don't really know exactly what the practices were like.

But somehow I doubt these practices were fatally intense, considering all our players are still alive. Yes, you can die if you practice too hard. But just because multiple people complained you assume that they must be correct? Just because it was more than one person doesn't mean they're right. How about the other 50 or so guys who weren't complaining?

And since these practices are optional, if I was a player who felt that practice was more than I could handle why would I complain to the NFL and take away practice from my teammates and hurt the team when I could simply not attend?
Heres the thing, they were right.

Skipping camp by choice (even if optional) is the equivalent of asking Harbaugh for a demotion. I could imagine players that were (by NFL rules) illegally overworked and in danger of being injured would feel intimidated by Harbaugh's hard line stance on perceived effort. Not wanting to risk being thrown in his doghouse this is the avenue they've taken, so it's obviously no joke.

Now I don't advocate a return to Camp Cupcake but Harbaugh went too far and even admitted it.

I can't tell... are you saying you support the player(s) who reported the camp being too hard to the NFLPA?

EDIT: Heck, even Preston thinks this stunt was a joke:

I like Camp Hardball but by everyones admission it went too far, you simply can't risk the health/livelihood of players unnecessarily, however being banned for a week by the NFL seems like a knee-jerk reaction and probably not what those players wanted.

Edit: We don't have all the information, we don't know what circumstances were, we don't know the mindset of the players is so I have to give them the benefit of the doubt and can't justify joining a witch hunt, so with that said yes I support them.

Has everyone seen this?
A Kinder, Gentler Baltimore Ravens?

What in the name of Ray Lewis is going on in Baltimore?

There was a day when the Ravens would stomp around and behave any way they bloody well pleased, consequences be darned.

Apparently those days are over.

Not only were the Ravens penalized by the league yesterday for overstepping their off-season guidelines when it comes to voluntary workouts, they then turned around and apologized for it.

What’s next? Lewis is going to lay someone out and then help carry him off on a stretcher?
Well at least you're brave enough to join the 'football is too hard' bandwagon openly. That can't be said for the player or players who complained.

Looks like there is a bad link in a Raven uniform. One or many players complaining to the union that they are working to hard. I guess a Super Bowl is not on their 2010 agenda. Need to weed these players.
Considering that last week was rookie camp, whoever complained will probably not be on the roster anyway

I tend to agree with the above re: Gaither/Rosenhaus. Its a very compelling case. And Rosenhaus has no interest in the team itself obviously. He could give a crap about a bunch of rookies who are trying to make an impression. There's no way I think it was one of the rookies. Those guys are pretty much desperate for every chance they get. They know if something like this ever got out, they'd be blacklisted. Rosenhaus is behind it, trying to complicate matters and protect his own investment.

Isn't Dominique Foxworth the player representative? I wonder if he was privy to this whole thing before it went down? I just gotta believe it was Lone Ranger Rosenhaus.

LOL Winnepeg, you got that right. You'd never believe it, but there were some kids in my school this past year that tried to burn the bathroom down in one of our hallways in order to get out of school. Almost worked too.

Why did they put Dominique Foxworth as our Player Representative??? Shouldn't that role be Ray Lewis' or Ed Reed's???

Not if they don't want it lol. Foxworth loves the political stuff and since we dont have Stover, he stepped up.

6/7/10 -Ravens forced to cancel final week of OTA's after unknown player or players files complaint

6/8/10 - Willie VanDeSteeg released from team

Hmmmm... :th_327321_Spy_23x22:

@T-Ray: Player rep doesn't always go to your highest esteemed guy, or your franchise identity guy. If you've seen Foxworth in interviews he is EXTREMELY intelligent and an eloquent speaker. He also is highly interested in the topic and the business side of football. Its a role that demands a committed person who wants to perform the duty with adherence to rules and respect for process. Its an important role and not everyone is cut out for it or interested in it. My guess is Ray and Ed are glad to have someone like Foxy represent them. He's a very bright guy.

I don't think there's anything to it. VanDeSteeg had almost no future with the team. Made sense to cut him.

Also is Vandesteeg the snitch who ratted out the Ravens yesterday??!?!?!? Is that why he was cut?!?!?! CONSPIRACY!!! DUN DUN DUH!!!!!!!!

Actually I just don't think he was working out for us because if he was the snitch, we definitely screwed up because Im sure he would file a grievance against us with the NFLPA.

Edit: I wrote this when Runnin Raven was writing it I guess lol Or Did I!?!?!?!

I'm pretty sure there are stiff penalties for retaliating against the "snitch". You can bet the Ravens aren't breaking rules again so soon. That means Vandesteeg was NOT the snitch.

I doubt that anyone could prove that they released him for snitching if that was the reason though. The guy was a practice squader all last year and with the depth at linebacker he didn't have much of a chance either way. If he was the snitch good for the Ravens to eliminate the cancer but if not oh well..life goes on!

apparently the OTA violation was reported "by accident" to the Players Association by an injured player. It wasn't intentional.

"The NFL source maintains with absolute certainty the initial report of a violation was from one player who did it in a completely innocent manner."

so it waas just one player

"So it’s not that shocking that a player, discussing his situation with someone in the Players Association, could have unknowingly spilled the beans on his team by revealing a workout schedule that didn’t fit with the limits outlined in the Collective Bargaining Agreement"

talking about his injury with someone in the PA?So were they talking to Foxy?

Good read but they will say anything to protect these guys. The article said it was found by accident but also said how the injured player alerted the PA of strenuous workouts. Sounds like someone had a boo boo and instead of sucking it up they cried wolf. If it was an injured player that limits it down to a few now and my guess would be either Gaither or Harewood. Who knows though, either way hard work pays off and I'm happy that the coaching staff is taking this year serious and putting the guys to work.

they wont say the name obviously but it may have been Jared Gaither who else was injured?
Ed Reed, Brandon Ayanbadejo, Lardarius Webb, Fabian Washington, Haloti Ngata, Ramon Harewood, Kelly Gregg, Brandon McKinney, and Marcus Smith are just a few of our other injured players.

But, yeah, of course it was Jared Gaither

Personally, I don't care. The facts probably will not be released so there's no way to know for sure. And speculation on who it was will just lead to unbased animosity towards suspected players.
