Revis Holding Out From Jets OTAs

58 posts in this topic
The All-Pro cornerback, 24, was at Florham Park for workouts on Wednesday. He is set to make $1 million in the fourth year of the six-year deal he signed as a rookie, but recently told ESPNNewYork.com that he expects to make more than $15.2 million a year, which is what Oakland cornerback Nnamdi Asomugha makes. Revis wants to be the highest-paid cornerback in the game.

It is something that is going to get done. The Jets are family to me.
really, if it doesn't get done, then are they still family to you?

Three Words:
Boo Hoo Jets

The Jets have had no problem throwing money around this offseason (especially to two "washed up" veterans in LT and Jason Taylor). You'd think they would have taken care of existing Jets first, especially the one who's considered one of, if not the, top corners in the league.

the nfl really needs to be reconstructed from the ground up. All these players expect to get a contract an then get a new contract once they play a little better instead of working for there money. im so glad we dont have those types of players here because thats embrassing enough for the whole league image.

Good god you guys are so jealous about the jets. You talk about them more than the Ravens. Just let them do their thing. Wow you guys are envious or upset of Rex Ryan's first year of success. Just let it go.

this is aboard not a 's board. I know this other team section but you guys mention Jets every single day.

There's no need for generalizations.. as long as this stays in the Other-Teams section, there is no issue...

I, for one, am not in the least bit jealous of the Jets or Rex Ryan. There's a reason that the Jets are talked about so often, and it has nothing to do with feelings of envy. It's because ever since Ryan, Scott, and Sanchez came to the Jets, the team has turned into a media circus. Whether it's the latest obnoxious comment from Ryan or Scott, the latest on Sanchez, the latest "big" signing or some sort of news regarding their "best ever" defense, the Jets are always in the media.

No that's not it at all. It's not the media, it is members of these boards who either love Rex or hate him.

We don't talk about the Colt's this much and we don't talk about the Cowboys this much; who are basically walk out on a red carpet before playing.

It is envy or jealousy but I have no problem with the Jets. They aren't a rival! Unless you wanna go back to the 3rd super bowl than so be it but they have nothing to do with our team!

Rex never poached any players from us. NEVER. Maybe if we wanted Bart Scott so bad we would of been at his house at midnight offering him a contract. We didnt sign Leonhard, so he did. These our players that did great things with us, and he gave the jobs.

I just dont understand the hatred to a guy who helped keep us as one of the best defenses in the NFL.

Just because you either love or hate Ryan doesn't automatically mean that people are jealous of him and his team's success. The reason he's a love him or hate him guy (which also explains the hatred towards him) is his attitude. He's arrogant and obnoxious. I don't mind if a coach wants to pump up his players, or talk to the press. But he takes it to the extreme, and grates on alot of people's nerves. Just like the whole thing with Channing Crowder last year was childish. If Rex knew when to keep his mouth shut, maybe he wouldn't garner so much hatred.

We don't talk about the Colts and the Cowboys as much? True, but again it comes to the media. Go back and look at headlines on ESPN or NFL.com, tell me how often you see anything about the two teams you mentioned. For the Cowboys, it's only been about their denied interest in Atogwe and the Patrick Crayton fiasco (and there hasn't been much to say on either front. Although they are mentioned in the Atogwe thread). Regarding the Colts, really all that's been said lately is about Mathis and Bethea missing practice, not much to talk about there. The Jets have a new headline constantly, therefore they get talked about more.

And lastly, another reason why the Jets are brought up... is because they're coached by a former Ravens coach. Teams tend to talk about other teams that sign their players and coach. When Jamal Lewis was on the Browns, they were talked about. When McAlister was signed by the Saints, people talked about that. When the Jets got Ryan, Scott, and Leonhard, it's not hard to see why they would be looked at by Raven fans more often. But again, that does not automatically mean we're jealous or envious.

Why no hatred for the Bengals? Marvin Lewis was our coach. Jack Del Rio, Mike Singletary, Mike Smith, etc. I just think it's silly that people hate Rex cuz he is hogging the spotlight yet people feed into it. Rex Ryan understand this business. It is just entertainment. Yes, that is right. NFL is just entertainment. That's about it. Rex understands that and the thing with Crowder obviously worked cuz Crowder played like garbage last year and looks to get cut this year.

But i ll stop, I cant change people's minds, I just feel it makes us as a whole look sour about Rex going to the Jets when we have a pretty damn good team here in Baltimore to talk about.

Crowder played like garbage, yet Miami still beat the Jets twice. Let's also not forget Ryan thinking the Jets were eliminated from playoff contention when they lost to the Falcons. Ryan is loud, obnoxious, and makes himself look stupid.

Why not hate for Lewis, Del Rio, Singletary, Nolan, and Smith? They don't run their mouths to the media and act like arrogant fools. It's that simple, it has nothing to do with anyone being sad that Ryan is in New York and had a "successful" first season. It's his attitude.

I won't be surprised if the Jets struggle next season.

Hate is a strong word and if you "hate" somebody because they are loud and obnoxious something is wrong with you, isn't this thread about Darrelle Revis holding out of OTA's because the contract's that have been offered on the table haven't been sufficient?

Who are you to say something is "wrong" with people for "hating" (which is such a thrown around word nowadays that it doesn't carry any of the strong weight you claim it does) a loud mouth, obnoxious media hog? More often than not, when someone claims to "hate" someone, it's more of a dislike than a hate, if using hate "offends" you so much. How often do you hear anyone say "Man, I dislike that guy over in the corner. Can he talk any louder?" You don't. Hate is shorter, quicker, flows better, and like I said, has lost much of the "strong" weight it ever used to have.

The Jets should have kept their own talent happy with all those dollars they were throwing around before going after the old talent they signed. I'd laugh if Revis eventually ends up leaving New York because the Jets wanted Jason Taylor and LT.

Don't forget to add Rex's statements about how he should have been Baltimore's head coach, his belief that the Ravens shouldn't have let Paul Kruger wear #99, his proclamation that his team should be SB favorites (after the playoff fiasco that you mentioned) and his preference to defeat the Ravens in the AFC Championship game rather than any other team before winning the SB. There are probably more of Rex Ryan's greatest hits that I've left out, but he's certainly said enough to make people dislike him.

Don't forget Nick Mangold and Davis Harris. They have to be paid too but it seems that the Jets may end up losing their own because of bringing in Holmes, Edwards, Cromartie, Taylor and LT. Now the Jets have contract issues because of Harris, Mangold, Edwards, and Holmes all on 1 year contracts this year. They have to decide who is important enough and from what they have said they are committed to giving Mangold and Revis big contracts first before anyone else.

If I was the Jets I would pay Revis, Mangold and Harris. Trade Braylon Edwards, and pay Holmes. JUst hope that the Jets front load the contracts while it's uncapped so it won't hurt them when the cap comes back.

I completely forgot about the whole 99 ordeal and Ryan wanting to play us in the AFCCG.

You have a good point, and idea (in trading Edwards and keeping Holmes). Something tells me that Ryan and the Jets FO won't be smart enough to cut their losses with Braylen however.

I think that it would be foolish of the Jets to not get this whole contract situation sorted out, but if they don't they could end up with several disgruntled players. If everyone isn't on the same page, the Jets might be a disjointed team by the time week 1 rolls around... one can only hope. ;)

No Cornerback is worth anywhere near $20 Mil a year or at least I havent seen a cornerback play like that yet. I mean Deion was good, Nnamdi is good, and Revis is good, but they dont deserve Peyton Manning money. I just read a report on Rotoworld.com, that part of Revis' hold out had to do with the filming of Hard Knocks where they stated HBO pushed Revis to ask for more money to start drama.

That's unprofessional on HBO's part, and completely idiotic on Revis' part if it's true.
