It's going to be a long, long time; don't get your hopes up. Our current one is a baby in comparison to some stadiums around the league.

Besides, what's wrong with our stadium that you're wondering when a new one will be built?

A new stadium probably won't be built for another 5-10 years, probably more than that. M&T Bank Stadium has only been open since 1998, and with the constant renovations over the years from new turf (twice) to new screens, we won't see a proposal for a new one for a little while.

Really, the ideal thing would be to keep the renovations going and keep the stadium as functional as possible so as to add to the history of the stadium. I want to see M&T Bank Stadium (or whatever it ends up being called in later years) as one of the hallowed places where football is played, similar to Lambeau Field and other historic sites. We're a long way from seeing The Bank be anything like Lambeau, but we can certainly hope for it.

3 thoughts. 1) No matter when we build a new stadium it will become "obsolete" within a few years because improvments are constant. 2) What do other stadiums really have that make them so much better? Do we really need an obnoxiously large screen like Dallas? A dome or retractable roof? Better luxury boxes (like few of us really care)? the only minor gripe I have about M&T is no escaltor to the upper level. 3) Have you seen the PSL costs of the new stadiums compared to M&T? I'm sure we would have to repurchase our seats.

Agree with this and what Franchise said. The way we are doing things with improving our current stadium is a way to upgrade your stadium without building a whole new stadium. I think there will definitly be more upgrades in the near future like adding new seats around the stadium to keep up with how many seats are in a stadium now a days. I just can't see them putting in a dome or roof.

The current stadium will probably be around for the next 10-15 years. There's no reason to build a new one.

New stadium? In all honesty, dont count on hearing anything about that for years...maybe decades, its not like the bank was already standing when the ravens came to town and they just moved in...this is something that was made FOR the ravens, and i highly doubt that they can get anything new for a long long time, lets hope not in our lifetimes, i'd like my kids and my kids kids to be able to go to the same stadium that i get to go to now, look at the tundra in green bay, thats not going anywhere, lets hope m&t will end up with a similar 'lure' and end up sticking around for a few more decades.

My knee-jerk response was '30 years', but perhaps some of the other folks are closer at approx. 15. It won't be in the next 5 or so, however. The stadium is in great shape.

The only thing I dislike about the stadium is how long it takes to get to your seats, god forbid you are in the upper deck... you literally have to wrap around the stadium about 20 times. What's up with an escalator?

Municipal/Venable Stadium lasted 36-38 years, to be morphed into Memorial Stadium over two years, which lasted another 46-48 years. Both Municipal and Memorial were somewhat obsolete when built.

The Ravens Stadium is but 12 years old, and built as a modern NFL stadium to maximize club seats and suites. It should keep going for at least another 30 years, perhaps adding capacity where available (next to video boards, filling the notches, and possibly overtaking the press box). Hopefully we will also receive some major upgrades over time, such as escalators, a retractable roof, and parking garages, and Sunday MARC trains and better highway access.

:argdancingravensblueonwkk8:

btw: as a history lesson, there were two attempts made at construction of a domed stadium: in the mid 1940s, pushed by Glenn L. martin, and in the early 1970s (the "Crabdome" which was defeated in a referendum after confusing language led many stadium proponents to vote against the stadium)

Baltimore is one of the fattest cities in America. I'm in great shape, but these other porkers could use a good workout in between the inhaling of hot dogs and beers

On the internet, we're all in shape. ^_^

How do these crazy threads get started?
New stadium- 20-30 years I would think.

Geesh, some of you guys have the attention span of a 5 year old. There are so much more important things to address with our team...like how about a Superbowl?!

Its the off season and not a lot to talk about. Instead of talking about the same things, he wanted to know what everyone thought about this topic. Its not a bad topic for this part of the off season.

Why replace a stadium that is pretty much brand new (in comparison to others in sports) makes no sense.

I would bet 30-40 years before any proposal even crossed the line.

Ie goes well beyond the Ravens themselves as an organization. The city of Baltimore has a collapsing economy, high crime, and poverty-stricken neighborhoods. It can not afford the funding, tax payers won't pay it, and no NFL team can build a stadium out of pocket.

Until Baltimore, and hell..any other major city can get out of the nasty debt they are in it will a slow day in hell before we see a new stadium.

A domes are nasty, retractable roofs too, football is a man sport played in the elements.

I want to see a renovation of the seats...I want black seats placed in there in a special section...to create a "RAVENOUS" crowd reminiscent of my experiences here in TERP land in the student section. Basically shut down the endzones with loud passionate fans.

b-more should increase federal government jobs so those who lives in the city w/o cars can have more opportunities. DC needs b-more to house fed jobs and for national security in case DC is overtaken. B-more should demand jobs be brough to b-more.

but if ya have a car....the federal government is keeping maryland afloat. could be worse. b-more ain't mainly factory workers.....there's cubicle jobs.

I hope we NEVER see a dome here. A retractable roof either.

Ditto. Those with a dome or any kind of roof should move to the arena football league!

we don't need a dome! maryland bi-polar weather is our calling card.

it could be cold and snowy one sunday in december.... and easily 70degrees next sunday in december.

I would much rather they build a new, bigger arena so we can have other sports, because there is absolutely nothing wrong with M&T.

I would say in about 15 years the Ravens will build a new stadium, after RAVENVISION becomes a thing of the past.
