Lendale White: Cut And Facing Possible Suspension

7 posts in this topic

Just when things appeared as if they might be looking up for White, he got cut by the Seahawks and is now facing a possible four game suspension for violating the league's drug policy (seems to be an on-going problem this offseason)

Apparently, he's known about the suspension for a while (as did the Seahawks when they traded for him), but that wasn't why he was cut. Some of the reasons behind him getting released are "failure to show up on time, not fully buying in, not endearing himself to the team, [and] having a sense of entitlement". It's good to see he got his attitude problem corrected. Although the sense of entitlement doesn't surprise me, he probably figured he had the starting position locked down since Pete Carroll took over.

Oh well, Lendale had a chance to come back to prominence in the league (a team with an iffy backfield situation and a former USC coach), and he blew it. The only person he has to blame is himself. It'll be interesting to see which (if any) team wants to pick him up. He doesn't exactly make life easy for his coaches.

Note that the violation was actually for the league's substance abuse policy, which also covers alcohol. Though the four-game suspension indicates that it was likely an illegal drug, it could have also been issued for suspected alcohol abuse. Theoretically, this could also have been a violation of the league's policy on banned substances, as the NFL still has yet to indicate what the possible suspension would be for.

Either way, LenDale White has screwed up royally and will need to prove to his next team that he's serious about being a starter in the league or he'll just be written off as a 2nd round bust who couldn't watch his weight.

I find it hilarious that he dropped his weight significantly but was still out of shape.

According to FoxSports.com's Alex Marvez, the Seahawks pulled the chord on LenDale White because his lack of effort "stood out like a sore thumb" compared to the other players.
This is consistent with other reports we've seen. The Seahawks did, in fact, know about White's impending suspension when they acquired him. They just grew tired of his immaturity and poor work ethic. Despite losing 45 pounds, White's physical conditioning was described as "poor." Even a team desperate for a backup, such as the Rams, will be hesitant to bring in White.

Thats pretty surprising. It's not just water weight either, he looks shredded and would have had to work his *** off to drop from 265 to 218. I heard he was cut because of the failed drug test and subsequent suspension.

Agreed.

I've seen conflicting reports about his conditioning. Several reports said he was good shape and Carroll praised his conditioning too.

The drug test and suspension were likely the main reasons.
