Anquan Boldin Not A Number #1 Receiver?

132 posts in this topic

Wow, some of you (ERP6) are very astute, and some of you are a little off base.

You have to understand that as an NFL and Cardinals fan that we just love Q and want to see him succeed (which he has already done). I think he is a better fit for your team and the way you play. Fiscally, they can not put 25% of the salaries in the WR position when we have so many other options and no more Warner.

And I hate the Q vs. Fitz comparisons. They are different players. Both are outstanding people and super-talented.

Hopefully we will meet in the SB, (dreaming) and if that is the case, I will turn into the biggest Q basher out there, but for now, I wish him the best of luck to both him and your team.

One of the things I like about Boldin is not only that he's physical, but the effect that other guys seeing him make plays has.

There's a difference between a guy making a graceful Biletnikoff grab or a David Boston truck. It fires up guys to see a guy like Boldin running through arm tackles. On most of his big plays, you see tons of Cardinals going nuts after he slices his way through defenses. It raises the bar for the kind of physicality guys want to show in order to get the ball. Plus, hell, it's just fun to watch.

Mason showed some of that toughness dangling his injured arm and still making plays against the Colts. With him and Boldin, and Flacco's unflappable nature, good RB's, we're starting to finally get near the level of touchness and nastiness on offense that we've always had on D.

I agree, and not only does it have an impact on the Raven players, but imagine how the defense must feel when they realize that this is the most physical team they have ever played. Every catch Boldin makes he will get that YAC running you over. Ray Rice is coming at you the next play and is either going to embarrass you or run you over as well. Le'Ron McClain is coming at you. Then there's the tight ends. It just establishes psychological dominance over the other team and if you think about that's what the 2000 Ravens defense had, because everyone in the league knew this defense was coming at you full force. I really think our offense has the ability to establish that same persona as well.

2010 Ravens Offense + 2000 Ravens Defense ='s BEST TEAM EVER. We may not get that distinction now, but we still are a pretty darn good football team.

Thanks, I just love NFL football and we are all fans of good teams and great play. So long as I am welcome here, I like this board. Lots of knowledge and no nonsense.

Here is another tidbit:

Are the Cardinals Better Without Anquan Boldin?

Now, first off, the writer's numbers are right. The Cards did go 6-1 w/o Q. But it's hard to say without seeing the opponents (NFC West is really weak). But I don't think they are better without him. And I had no idea the WSJ had a sports section. Tell me where to put my 401K money, don't comment on sports. Kind of silly.

The Seahawks were dominant before Kurt Warner's resurgence.

Yeah that's kinda what I was saying... But even that's not quite true. The numbers don't align. Kurt Warner 'came back' in 2007. The Seahawks were still sitting on top of the division at that time. They fell off in 2008.

I feel like that has to be some sort of a coincidence. In basketball, when a star player gets hurt, the rest of the team sometimes goes on a winning streak. And you start to think, 'is this star player really that valuable to this team?'. But as the season progresses the team comes down to earth because they miss that leadership and talent. It would be assuming that Steve Breaston is better than Boldin. Which could be because teams have less film to watch of Breaston to prepare or something. Boldin is a pro bowler. And a pro bowler is always missed, no matter who, or for what team.

No coach is going to say that his team is worse without a player. But truth is, no team is better when they lose a pro bowler. Ken Whisenhunt isn't going to say his team got worse because Warner isn't there anymore. He is going to be as positive for his upcoming team, even though we all know Matt "mediocre" Lienart isn't better than Warner. Same applies for Breaston and Boldin.

I think the character issues and off-field problems may have been what put us off Marshall. He's already been in a fair bit of trouble legally and obviously has had multiple issues with coaches and the front office in Denver.

I know the argument, I just hope it pays off in the long term and we don't look back in two years wishing we had taken Marshall.

I hope for Marshall's sake he's not serving a suspension in two years because of yet another 'incident'.

At the end of the day there will be people who, until he proves his worth to the Ravens, discredit him as a player. I cannot see how people can justify this, even if the team he played in had better numbers when he wasn't on the field. Look at his own numbers, they are the only indications of how good a player he is and exactly what he brings to this team. I don't care if analysts could legitimately name a dozen players who are statistically better than him, but at the end of the day, he is the best fit WR I would like for our team. He's physical, knows how to work a defense, makes big gains after he catches the ball but most importantly, he is an upgrade. He can only make this team a better team and whether he is a 'top 5 in the league' receiver will not impede that.
