Ray Lewis As A Coach?

8 posts in this topic

Now i know this is probably a ravens fan's dream, but do you think that Lewis, with his great amount of defensive knowledge, could ever translate that into teaching a whole team?

and if you think he could be a coach, do you think he could ever coach the ravens defense?

Ray Lewis has already indicated that he has no interest in coaching after he retires; in an interview, he stated that he's finished with football once he retires because he'd like to spend more time with his kids and spend more time enjoying life. He has also said he wouldn't rule out becoming a preacher in retirement, rather than going into broadcasting as most of his peers have done.

Just as further clarification on the article I referenced earlier: ESPN.com (published May 14, 2008)
"When it's time for me to hang up those cleats, there is no coming back,'' Lewis said. "There is no 'Yeah, I feel good again and I'm in better shape.' Because I know what I give every day of my life, and that is complete focus on my task at hand.''

But Lewis says he will be prepared when the next phase of his life arrives. That phase will include business ventures and, most importantly, family time. Lewis' children tug at his heart every day. Most recently he mentioned a track meet that he regrettably missed because of his obligations at Ravens camp.

It's a delicate balance of family and football that Lewis finds increasingly difficult to manage. That is part of the reason Lewis plans to remove himself from the spotlight once he retires, because it will open another door to become the ever-present father he wants to be.

"It's a push-pull [situation],'' Lewis said candidly. "My kids are young enough now. But when they start getting to that age where they are in high school, I want to be there to say, 'I got this. I'll go shopping for everything,' and things like that.
You really have to admire the man for putting family first. Sure, we'd love to have him coach the Ravens after he retires, but not every great player is a great coach, no matter how vocal they are or how high their football IQ is. Teaching and knowing are two different things that do not always go hand-in-hand (think back to some of the teachers you had in grade school...)

Furthermore, I'm inclined to believe that Ray Lewis is a man of his word. If he says he'll walk away, he'll probably walk away with no regrets. Again, would love to have him on the sidelines forever, but it probably won't happen.

None the less, I'd love to see him on the sideline every once in a while.
Kinda like when Johnny U would show up on the screen- the stadium would go insane!!!

Ray will still show up for the Ravens when he retires. They will def. retire his number and build a statue to put in front of the stadium. He pretty much lead this team from the start, and I doubt he will just let it go.
