As you all know well Ray Lewis is 35 yrs young now. He always figures out a way to stay in incredible shape and his passion for the game is legendary by now. He is an inspiration to all his fellow team mates and a natural leader of men!
So here is the question - how many years do you realistically expect Ray Lewis to play for the Ravens at the level he is playing. I say he gives us this year and next at least hopefully if he remains injury free.
Please make sure you give the pros and cons of his impending retirement and why do you expect him to retire. Hope we get an enlightening discussion folks.

I think this was just a recent topic, but here goes......

3 years (including this one). As for pros and cons...not a single pro for him hanging up the cleats!

Luckily he plays a position where speed isn't a necessity, Junior Seau is a prime example that looking after your body can extend your career towards 40.

I apologize if this is a topic that was recently covered... I was unaware if it was.

Suggestion--before starting a new topic go through the first 2 or 3 pages--there are several Ray Lewis topics in which this was discussed. It the off season so therefore lucky for us there is not too much to talk about, unlike some other teams in our division :obliviongate:, but during the season multiple topics on the same thing clutter the board and some good discussions drop off :) This is not aimed at you but a general statement--there are NO AWARDS for starting a new thread and multiple's will be locked or merged.

To the subject at hand I hope Rays plays at least 3 more years or until he feels he can't. I have seen some of the OTA interviews on the news with him and Ray looks like one huge muscle, the man is a beast.

Ray will remain a Raven for an eternity inside our hearts.
But as far as his physical presence is concerned, I believe 2013 is the last year.

I'm thinking that he may finish his contract and then switch to one year deals to finish out or just finish his contract now and retire.

Whenever he does, we better have a linebacker coach spot open with a contract in the works for Ray Ray.

As far as when he'll retire goes, I have no idea. Ray himself probably doesn't know at this point in time.

His last contract has three or four optional years as a linebackers coach.... you never know. ;)

There our guys like Rice, Favre and Seau who can play until they are 40 because the shape they are in. I think it's fair to say Ray Lewis can be included in this club.

id say that fair, sure Rays slowed down a bit but other than that hes the same old Ray... even at 35. i cant see him retiring until he physically cant do it any more or feels that being there is hurting the team

You know, if i listened to my emotional reaction to this, i'd probably that ray lewis will play till he is 50, but in all reality, i though ray lewis would reply last year. on the other hand i thought that that was the year that they would win a super bowl. i think Ray will retire when he gets another ring, or when his age starts hurting the team, at this point you could probably call Ray Lewis the NFL's "Lebron James" because i think at this point the ravens want to get a "ring for the king"

Ravens win the Superbowl at least 1 more time before Ray Lewis retires. He will be vaunted to make appearances on all the football shows and will be a 1st ballot HOF inductee. He will do great things off the field of football and change peoples lives for the better as he continues to live in GODS will. It will be an emotional day in Baltimore when he plays his last home game, much like Cal Ripkens departure. I say 2012.

another ring will be the big deciding factor.

What I think is, every season will depend on the potential to get another ring. If the D falls apart and the Offence falls apart, he is gone. As long as we have a team that has a legit shot at the super bowl, he will stick with it. No more than three total rings though. (including the one he currently has)

I just hope the decline is gradual like the last 5 years, and not a complete free fall.
That's the way it will go is a steady decline, Ray keeps himself in too good of shape for him to just free fall.

I think Ray will play 3 more years including this one. In his 3rd it'll probably be in a reduced capacity, but not to the extent of Junior Seau. I think Ray has too much pride to be sitting on the bench for more than half the game.
