Well, that would mean we would still have Trent Dilfer as QB, right? I hope not, we would still have to kick a lot of field goals - Hey, Where is Stover???!!!

Jared Allen would have absolutely no effectiveness in this Defense, people that have been picking him are only picking him because of his sack numbers over the past few years.
Not true. We run the defense our personnel can fill. With the depth and talent that we have at DT, a 4-3 would work well for us. Not to mention its more in accordance with Greg Mattison's philosophy. The only reason we can not run a successful 4-3 is because we lack the pass rushing defensive ends to make it work. We haven't had a prototypical pass rushing defensive end since Micheal McCrary hung up his cleats.

2-players:

1) An ELITE CB; i.e. Nnamdi A.
2) Established, and adequate backup for Joe; e.g. Pennington etc

I think that's pretty much all we need. The rest is simply up to how the players execute the gameplan, and for the coaches to make the correct ones.

Our pass rushers seem to be there, our Dline looks solid, our LB corps. is solid, our safeties, our Oline, our WRs etc etc.

They just need to be prepared with the right gameplan (coaching) and execute it (players).

Honestly I disagree, he does not much of a run defender and is only dominant against the pass. IMO he plays clean up for the Williams wall.

What about when he was playing for the Chiefs? No williams wall there or any pro bowl talent on that line with him. I dont like him but he is a beast.

I disagree with that sentiment with staggeringly few exceptions. Peyton Manning and Asomugha are the only two that come to mind. Everyone is a product of the system to some extent. The Vikings line is stacked and the Cheifs ran a defense that fits his skills nicely. He's no doubt an excellent player and I think he'd be a good player if he'd come here somehow, but I don't agree that 'a superstar is a superstar'. There are examples of this in virtually every free agency.

Either Darren Sharper, Darrelle Revis, Dwight Freeney, Patrick Willis or John Beason on D

Dwight Clark, Vernon Davis, D'Brickashaw Ferguson, Al Faneca or Randy Moss on O

Based on current needs, I would say Revis. Having a true shutdown CB would make our defense unstoppable. but if I could take anyone, it would be Jared Allen. They guy is a true stud DE, he would get 13+ sacks every year, and he knows how to rock a full-on mullet complete with Canadian Tuxedo. This guy is absolutely hilarious and is probably my favorite non-Raven player. Besides, he plays with a motor like Mike McCrary and would be a perfect fit in our schemes and our locker room as well.

I like the Polamalu idea, though. Ed and Rosanne Rosanna Danna together on the same team; no QB would even attempt a pass greater than 20 yards.

Really? Shouldn't be a surprise to some of the senior members here though...I used to complain all the time about how we need to bench Clayton and trade for Boldin. Wanted a top WR something fierce.
Who did you think I would pick?

I'd take Jeff Garcia, just to get Carmella Decesare in the stands.

When he wasn't looking, I could woo her with my post-winter paunch and irresistible white man dance moves onto my unicycle, toss some of my famed ham hocks and molasses jugs to divert the security guards behind me, and make a big getaway.

Yeah, I just get all giddy inside when I envision Favre throwing a pick six in the AFC Championship to end our season.

But to be fair, as good as Manning is and as much as he makes his teammates around him better, he is still a choke artist in the postseason. This past Super Bowl only cemented that. Sure, his legacy as one of the greatest of all time is virtually unquestioned with his regular season accolades -- but he almost always cools down as the postseason wears on. Though 31 other teams will always end up disappointed while the Super Bowl Champions are the only team that will be truly satisfied, Manning's level of play is so high that he has no excuse to have won only ONE ring in his career thus far while some of his contemporaries have won multiple titles.
Granted theFRANCHISE that there is a solid case to be made that he does not deliver a SB everytime he suits up... can you help but wonder what he would have done with Ray Lewis and gang manning defense? With the current crop of offensive targets he has in Rice, Boldin, Mason, Heap, etc?? Keep in mind, the Colts have not had a great run game for play action help... so he has contended with a pass first offense which makes even Manning susceptible... just a thought though having him at QB...fascinating to me anyways

No doubt it's hard not to like him Winnipeg, his hobbies consist a lot of what us ole Canucks do. He has been hunting before up here in Northwestern Ontario and actually stopped in at one of our crap bars(according to his blog, he chirpped the bar it was funny). The pick of bringing Jared Allen to the team just confuzzles me though because he doesn't fit in our team at all right now(he would get torched as an OLB and would need to bulk up to play 3-4 end which would in turn take away his 14 sacks/year rendering him useless, we would need to switch to a 4-3 so then where would JJ,Kindle,Ellerbe,Suggs play?)

Why not just add a player that fits and make the team darn near unstoppable?

In all seriousness, you could look at team weaknesses and go for a Revis or Asomugha.

The better pick is recognizing what the league has become. We all (I think) like Flacco, but could you imagine the team with Peyton or Drew Brees? On the other hand, Flacco's not even in his prime, and even if Brees and Peyton play until their late 30's or beyond, Bazooka Joe is the better long term option.

Lamarr Woodley, though an evil Steeler and at a depth position for us, would make our pass rush insane. He's way underrated, much better character guy than Harrison, and much younger.

Both us and the Steelers have dreamed of a Polamalu/Reed backfield, for good reason.

OK. If you wanna get technical and take the fun out of it, I'll agree with you and say Julius Peppers. We haven't had a prototypical, stud DE since Scary McCrary.

I love the Woodley idea, except we are overstocked at that DE/LB tweener spot that we love so much. Reed + Polamalu would be insane. Combine that with our run defense, and I don't know if any team could score on us.

offense:

Nick Mangold - Need a great young centre and our line will be set for years!
Andre Johnson - Obvious reasons.

Defense:

Revis - youngest shutdown corner out there. I also like Asomugha but he's older.
Pass rusher - Probably go with Ware or Woodley...

I don't really think any one player would guarantee a Superbowl win, but my wishlist is:

Defense
Nnamdi Asomugha

or

Offense
Andre Johnson

I agree. He had like 20 sacks two season ago. I wouldn't mind having someone with that ability and talent.

So it looks like the ***** has spoken. Throughout the posts it seems that most people want a shutdown corner, either Revis or Asomugha (it's almost an even split) or a dominant pass rusher with Ware, Woodly, or Allen (I'm surprised at the lack of votes for Peppers...)

The player of choice offensively has been overwhelmingly Calvin Johnson (Megatron), with Andre Johnson given an honorable mention.

I agree that almost any of the players mentioned will almost gaurentee us to be the favorites to win the Super Bowl, but that's because we already are!!!! haha.

PS - I do like the votes for a young center, bc even though we have one of the best he's nearing the end of his career. With a great young center we would have the best offensive line in the NFL for the next 10 years. And we all know with a great line you don't need the best weapons bc with that much time average players look like pro-bowlers.
