Top 10 Wrestling Theme Songs

32 posts in this topic

Just as the title indicates, list your Top Ten Wrestling Theme Songs from old-school WWF, WWE, WCW, ECW, TNA, ROH, or any other promotion that comes to mind. This isn't a top ten list about the best themes or the most memorable ones; this is all personal favorites.

Here's my list:

1) THE ROCK -- Every single incarnation of the theme perfectly captures the attitude and swagger of The Great One whenever he steps through the curtain. His theme is the only one that gives me goosebumps even listening through a pair of crappy speakers, especially when you hear the crowd's reaction. For example: YouTube - The Rock - One Night Return (2004)

2) STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN ("Glass Shatters" by Disturbed) -- Stone Cold's theme is iconic, but Disturbed's cover of it was beyond epic. The song instantly gets you jacked up and ready to run into a brick wall. Simply put, it's AMAZING. YouTube - Stone Cold Steve Austin - Disturbed "Glass Shatters"

3) TRIPLE H ("The Game" by Motörhead) -- The opening notes are instantly recognizable and few wrestling songs embody a wrestler's persona better than Triple H's theme performed by Motörhead. Whether he's a sadistic heel or a B.A. fan favorite, the song's lyrics define his character in a way that no other theme's lyrics do for any other wrestler. YouTube - Triple H - Titantron (2009)

4) CHRIS BENOIT ("Whatever" by Our Lady Peace) -- The tragedy of the murder-suicide that claimed his family's life aside, Chris Benoit's entrance theme fit the duality of his in-ring character perfectly. Though his persona was that of a relentless competitor, Benoit also had a level of vulnerability that stemmed from his well-documented history of professional struggles outside of the ring. The Titantron video is a bit eerie now when you watch it with the murder-suicide in mind, however. YouTube - Chris Benoit - Titantron (2006)

5) EDGE ("Metalingus" by Alter Bridge) -- Edge has always had awesome entrance music throughout his career, and it was only fitting that his first one performed by a real band was just as awesome as previous ones. One of the marks of a good entrance theme is if it works well irrespective of whether the wrestler turns heel or face; Edge's theme is no exception, it's just that good. YouTube - Edge - Titantron (2009)

6) Christian ("Just Close Your Eyes" covered by Story of the Year) - YouTube - Christian - Titantron (2010)
7) CM Punk ("This Fire Burns" by Killswitch Engage) - YouTube - CM Punk - Titantron (2010) (note: pitch of song is slightly altered in video)
8) Batista ("I Walk Alone" by Saliva) - YouTube - Batista - Titantron (2010)
9) Brock Lesnar - YouTube - Brock Lesnar - Titantron (2003)
10) Chris Jericho - YouTube - Chris Jericho - Titantron (2001-2003)

Dude, how can the Hulks "Real American" not be included.
Too corny for my tastes. -_-

Plus, I'm not a Hulk Hogan fan at all. There were far more talented workers in his era, he just happened to be the first to burst on the scene with a colorful gimmick that was made for a national (and then global) audience.

TNA lately has been horrible under Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff's creative direction. Prior to that, it had a lot of upside despite his minor-league status compared to WWE. Now, it's all gone quickly downhill. For every good individual match, there's usually three that make you scratch your head because of the way the finish was booked or the storyline basis for it. And speaking of the storylines...complete garbage. They're trying so hard to mimic the old WWF Attitude Era but they're recycling storylines from the old WCW days and aren't able to follow simple booking concepts. They want to be the adult alternative to WWE's kid-friendly product, but they're failing miserably.

At least in this WWE-PG era, there's storylines that make sense on RAW and SmackDown. Sure, they could use more wrestling, but at least the pay-per-view matches have a solid build. Do I miss the old days of blood and violence? Sure -- but I also understand why they've had to tone it down, and it's all about money. A large segment of the audience that grew up with the Attitude Era has gravitated away from wrestling as they've gotten older, so it's now time to tap into the family-friendly market, where there's always money to be made even in a recession.

Good lists so far, here is mine in no particular order:

1. The Rock- I think any top 10 theme song list has to include The Rock. Whenever you heard If you smelllll what the rock is cooking.... you knew that the Rock was about to come lay the smackdown on some jabroni. I am waiting for the day to watch Raw and hear that music and see him one more time.

2. Stone Cold Steve Austin- The glass shattering noise meant only one thing... business was about to pick up.

3. Hulk Hogan(WCW Theme)- I would have put his WWF/E theme on here but his WCW theme is alot better than his Real American song he used in the WWE.

4. Sting(Metalica)- This was just a cool theme.

5. NWO- One of the most dominant factions ever in Wrestling, though WCW killed the NWO by adding too many people, early on it did it's job when they beat the WWF in ratings.

6. Ultimate Warrior- No reason but it was just a really cool theme

7. Triple H- The 13 time world champion, this song fits him perfectly. In this generation of Wrestling, I believe this is the longest running theme used by a Superstar(next to HBK) since he has used this song since 2000 or 2001. For a while he was the game, the top dog that everybody aimed for, but now everyone is aiming for this next guy.

8. John Cena- Just the beginning of his song makes the little kids happy, in fact just seeing Cena on Raw is probably enough to please the kids and the PG rating. He is this generations Hulk Hogan(larger than life, super man gimmick) and The Rock(doing movies, transcending the WWE but hasn't left like the Rock did)

9. ECW Theme- This was the music that defined ECW, if you heard this song things were about to get extreme.

10. Undertaker- Gong. Just that noise alone puts chills down opposing superstars who are about to be facing the Undertaker. Though I almost wanted to put his ABA theme on here, this song was truly defined for the Undertaker character.

Honorable Mentions:

- Goldberg
- RVD(WWE Theme)
- DX
- Randy Orton(Voices)
- Edge(Current theme)
- CM Punk
- Shawn Michaels(He will be missed!)
- The Miz
- Jeff Jarrett(TNA Theme)
- AJ Styles

I have no idea why, but I love the NWO Wolfpack Theme Song, and also the D-X song. They'd have to be number 11 and 12 after that list TheFranchise put up. I also can't stand Cena at all. Sure he's for the little kids, but after that, there is no reason to like him at all. Just too cheesy for my liking. He couldn't have made it 10-20 years ago.

Cena would've been perfect for the old WWF of the '80s and early '90s -- but he would've been eaten alive during the Attitude Era unless he reverted back to his old hip-hop gimmick from 2003-2005.

It's not that he's a horrible wrestler; he's had some decent matches when he's on his game. Cena is just too corny and caters too much to the children. His humor is made for kids (at least The Rock's humor, when childish, had an edge), and his promo delivery is really hokey when he's trying to be intense.

Even when I watch Cena wrestle and try to like the guy for his talent, I just can't do it. Even his moves are semi-corny. The five finger shuffle? What the crap is that?

No worse than The People's Elbow or The Worm or Hogan's Leg Drop or insert-your-ridiculous-finisher-here.

RVD's new TNA theme song is stupid. It just says his name and his finishers over and over again lol
Like most TNA entrance music, his is a blatant rip-off of his WWE theme -- which, in itself, was a blatant rip-off of his old ECW theme, Pantera's "Walk"

At least WWE's Jim Johnston composes mostly original themes; TNA's Dale Oliver rips off of Johnston's work and popular songs on the radio.
