Haha Goose is the man. Have you seen Hard Knocks? If you haven't I recommend it because Goose is damn funny.

You can find it on Hulu for free.

While I agree with you, remember. It is pretty hard to evaluate people who played before your era. I wonder there John Mackey belongs on this list.

You guys do know that there was a football team in Baltimore before the Ravens, right?

Throwing in Unitas as a token addition behind Ray Lewis doesn't make up for your overlooking of Moore, Marchetti, Berry, Donovan, etc.

Siragusa/Lewis, as great as they were, belong nowhere on the list of top five players in Baltimore football history.

Sorry about my list being primarily Ravens players. I wasn't alive to see all the great BALTIMORE Colts players, but I've heard of them in passing. As I wasn't fortunate enough to see them play the great sport, I can't compare them to today's Ravens players.

You do realize this is completely based on opinion? I don't care if you prefer those guys, make your own list instead of criticizing others.

You DO mean Jamal, right? Because Ray is arguably the greatest middle linebacker of all time. He has a case to be the greatest Baltimore football player ever and is probably the best Raven ever. I really hope you weren't talking about Ray.

But yeah, Siragusa? Come on. He doesn't deserve to be anywhere close to the Ravens' big three and the Colts Hall of Famers. He's not a HOFer and he didn't play that long here. Simply being a character doesn't vault him up the list.

I wasnt alive to see the Colts play, so it's tough for me to make the comparison or really evaluate their "greatness." Further, it's tough to rate players of different eras, as the game has changed so much. Maybe Unitas wouldn't have been so great in today's game with the crazy blitzing and coverage schemes. The game and athletes today are much bigger, faster, stronger, and healthier (medical technology) so it's almost impossible to say unless we all agree that everything is relative.

No one could have blitzed Ogden back in the day, no one could move him. It's possible that anyone big enough to tackle Jamal Lewis couldn't catch him and anyone that could catch him couldn't bring him down... Any of these great Ravens players probably would have been much "greater" if they played during the era of the Baltimore Colts. That's totally just an opinion-based argument, and who knows, the opposite could be completely true. Maybe the great Colts players would be greater today with the advancements in technology... I guess it could go both ways.

Anyways, I only have had the priviledge of watching the Ravens so here's my top 5 Raven's of all time...

1)Ray Lewis
2)Johnathan Ogden
3)Ed Reed
4)Jamal Lewis*
5)Matt Stover

* based on being only offense during superbowl year. We were one dimensional and defenses could load up on him and only him and know we wouldn't do anything else. That being said, he still had one of the best individual rushing years in the history of the NFL. Even with that #1 defense of all time, i do not think we would have won the superbowl without him.

Completely agree with you, but you're treading some water with the part about you saying the Colts players may not have been as good as today's Ravens players. I think the same things, but respect needs to be given the old Baltimore team, and the 'more experienced fans' will think the complete opposite. But kudos for stepping out like that!

i dont know that i said "better" exactly... but i dont think theres an argument that athletes today are bigger, stronger, and faster and i think its harder to be "great" and stand out when everyone in the game is that freakishly athletic. I do strongly believe that some average players today could have dominated if they played 30 years ago.

i think the skill levels for great players hasnt changed, its just that the players in todays game with the skill to be considered great are bigger, stronger, and faster than those considered great in the past. put two "great" players with the same skill but ones dominates in every physical category, who do you think is gonna win??

with that said, these types of "greatest of all time" lists are always relative... meaning you judge a player based on the competition they played. so a player is "great" in comparison to what a good player was AT THAT TIME. the average of good has definitely increased

Bold, I love debates like this and I am lucky enough(or old enough :oldwiseman: ) to have seen the best both teams had to offer. Ray Lewis in the middle with the likes of a Bill Pellington, Lewis would be all UNIVERSE. Johnny Unitas playing in today's game, by today's rules.....GAME OVER, Johnny U would tear defenses to pieces. Jamal running behind Jim Parker, Jim Brown's twin is born.

Top 5: 1. John Unitas 2. Ray Lewis 3. Raymond Berry 4. John Ogden 5. Jim Parker

While it's true that today's guys are bigger and faster overall it doesn't mean that all the guys who played in the 60's/70's couldn't have played today. Some would still kick ***. Especially some of the QB's notably Johnny U. The QB's that played in the pre-1978 era had to cope with rules that made it much tougher to pass the ball. My opinion is that Johnny U. would have a field day out there with the current rules. He would absolutely tear the league up. He would love the current blitz schemes teams are using and would make them pay. OMG would he make them pay. LOL.

Just one (older) mans 2 cents.
