"The Dark Knight" blew my mind away.

I've never seen a comic book movie that had so much philosophy in it. It really resembled more of a crime drama, but with gadgets and costumes.

Even though I already knew for the most part what would happen in the movie, I was still stunned by some of the twists and turns, and I got sucked in right from the start.

Eerie line that stuck in my mind all night:

THE JOKER (Heath Ledger) [to Batman]: "You and I could do this forever"

It's a shame that he passed away...I would've loved to see him in a sequel. That line gave me chills, especially how it was said.

This movie practically BEGS for there to be a sequel, even though this was still a complete movie unto itself.

For the record, it's definitely NOT a movie for kids...there's a lot of disturbing imagery that even bothered ME a little bit, and a lot of the themes would go over kids' heads. Not only that, but even though the violence isn't truly graphic, it's still pretty borderline, especially the implied off-screen violence.

And The Joker got pretty downright scary at times.

And don't get me started on the visual effects for Two-Face...I had seen the picture online, but it was eerie to see the other half of the face in motion. Think of third-degree burns over human tissue.

Man, that sounds like one heck of a movie. What was the most disturbing thing from the movie in terms of the imagery?

Without getting TOO plot-specific about imagery (and I'll put the black spoiler tag over it anyway, just in case):

- There's a couple of videotapes that The Joker makes of a couple victims...you don't see what happens to them, but it's the way it's shot that makes it look a little like the real-life beheading tapes that terrorists sent to the government a few years back
- Joker burns a huge pile of money just to watch it burn, and there's a guy bound and gagged to a chair on top of it. You can guess what happens to him
- Two-Face's burnt face alone is a little unsettling when it's first revealed, but you get used to it
- Someone in a Batman mask is symbolically hung, but it's not the hanging so much as the context in which it happens that's creepy

There's probably more that I forgot, but I'll refresh my memory when I go to see it again in an hour or so. B)

Either way, this isn't a kids' movie, and despite the PG-13 rating, it's not meant to be. In fact, there was even talk that Warner Bros. was willing to let them get an R-rating for artistic integrity, but the MPAA decided that it was simply what they call a hard PG-13 (meaning it pushes limits, but doesn't go too far).

Besides, it's too heady for kids to understand anyway. Lots and lots of dialogue, but not in the boring sense. And there's plenty of action, but it's all measured.

It's not disturbing in, say, a horror movie sense, but moreso just how the images stay in your mind afterwards. It's all about context -- you have to see it for yourself, in the moment, to understand what I mean.

Dude, that is so wierd. Who thought of this stuff?. You know what, it doesn't matter, I gotta see it.

It's not what you see that's graphic, it's what you DON'T see. Remember, your imagination can produce images more vivid than anything that someone could put on-screen. ;)
