Gaither's Injury

Gaither ended up only having a bruised foot

http://blogs.baltimoreravens.com/?p=5614

This exactly what I thought the situation was going to be. Assuming it is what Harbaugh said it was, and just some bruising on the foot this just annoys me. I normally don't like to discount players when they are injured and say that they are faking, but bruising and he makes a trip to a specialist?

He wants a new contract, I understand that. But he hasn't been consistently healthy, and his work ethic is sub par. I'm not saying you can't be great without a good work ethic, but at least when Suggs held out he had a few trips to Hawaii under his belt. Drew Rosenhaus has to be the most annoying agent ever. Why would we invest millions in a player who is unreliable. Hopefully, he wasn't just faking to get out of practice, and is different than how it sounds.

when i read that i kind of felt the same way but really wouldnt you want to make it seem like you really wanted to be on the team if you were trying to get paid? i mean if i was him i would be trying to make it seem like things in bmore are great to try and attract other teams.

I agree completely. And even if you don't act like everything is wonderful in Baltimore, no one will want to trade a second round pick or anything for a player that is hurt. It's a stupid political decision on his part. Assuming it is just a bruising. If it actually an injury to hinder his ability I understand, but it doesn't sound like it was that bad.

"In Gaither's absence, Chris Chester played right guard, and Marshall Yanda moved from right guard to right tackle." Now I'm a little worried.

Conventional wisdon would suggest that he gets on the field as much as possible if he wants to earn that LT money elsewhere, but this is Rosenhaus we're talking about. God only knows what kind of poison he has planted in Gaither's head already.

A 6 foot 9, 330 Lb mountain of a man allowing himself to be sidelined by a bruised foot reaks of Rosenhaus and his under-handed tactics. I really wish he'd break some sort of NFL negotiation's rule so they could black-ball him and say he's no longer allowed to interact with the NFL and it's players.

I really don't like the thought of Chester playing guard and Yanda manning right tackle. Chester really hasn't impressed in playing time and saying he's solid is a bit generous: he was at his best when playing a Tight End position when we ran the unbalanced line. On top of that you move a mauling right guard outside, where he has struggled in the past. Yanda lacks the length and athleticism to effectively play tackle.

C'mon Jared, get rid of that parasite Rosenhaus!

You realize a toe injury ended Jonathan Ogden's career? Or was he faking, too? If a doctor and the team say he's injured, he's injured. There is probably no hidden agenda, just a bad coincidence.

Exactly. We might say "Oh its just a brusied foot" but when you're carrying that much weight around, it hurts.

Yeah I agree. I mean if a doctor says someone is injured, that's a pretty strong statement.

But I really have no idea what's going to happen with him. Given that we haven't heard any reports of other teams being interested in a trade in a while, who knows, but given that he's MORE THAN LIKELY injured, it just makes it even more difficult to give him a big contract.

I was just going to say that and in an interview last year JO said it was still bothering him-- I know this relates to a knee but
With every pound of weight lost, there is a direct correlation in the reduction of pressure exerted on the knee per step during daily activities in overweight and obese older adults with knee osteoarthritis (OA) [ 1 ]. New data by US researchers, reported in the July 2005 issue of Arthritis & Rheumatism, show that in adults with knee OA who averaged a body weight loss of 5%, every pound netted a 4-lb reduction in pressure exerted on the knee and an 18% improvement in function.
Source so when you have these huge guys with lower extremity issues it takes longer hurts more. Sometimes bruises are worse then sprains when it comes to healing.
