Already got it pre-ordered through Amazon and coming to the mail Tuesday -- with free release date delivery via Amazon Prime, no less! Oh, and there's also that nice bonus $20 gift card for pre-ordering as well as the free golden guns weapon pack. :)

Game Informer gave Red Dead Redemption a 9.75 in this month's issue. Apparently, the whole back story is an ex-outlaw is living the quiet wild west life with his wife and kids. However, "The Agency", who are hunting his former gang members, blackmail him into helping them find his former gang.

The Wild West GTA aspect kind of interests me. I'll probably give it a rent, since I'm using any spare cash I have to reserve NCAA Football 11 and Madden 11.

I don't even particularly care about the Wild West setting, I just like the idea of morality in the game as well as the dearth of activities you can do in the open world. Anything you can think of from a Western, you can probably do. It's essentially taking the freedom of GTA IV and expanding even further upon it.

It's not out yet... unless you're talking about the previews.....

There's a game named Red Dead Revolver that's been out for a while... but from what I can tell from the previews this one is Chutes & Ladders above that game

EDIT: Idk, what other ppl see about it..... but the online feature looks like it could be pretty BAMF... It looks like you are actually playing as a character in the west (or even possibly in your favorite western movie) It looks pretty realistic.... and like I said before it looks like it can make you feel like you could be in the west

Well, this game isn't actually a sequel to Red Dead Revolver but is the spiritual successor to it. You play loner in an open-world setting (appropriately enough, similar to Grand Theft Auto IV) that can either be an outlaw or a hero. It's set in the West in the early 1900s and it's an old-school revenge story. The draw of the game, however, is essentially the fact that you can do just about anything. You can gamble, hunt, have Mexican standoffs, be the town sheriff, go hassle people at a saloon, rescue a damsel in distress, tie that same damsel to railroad tracks...anything that would come to mind from a standard spaghetti Western, basically.

The easiest way to put it is it's Grand Theft Western.

The biggest difference, though, is that this game is a bit more ambitious, given the scope of things you can do and places you can go.

Dude, any game where I can be a re-incarnation of John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, or Wyatt Freakin' Earp, I am going to rent/buy in a heartbeat.

Okay, Red Dead is fantastic. I think it does a better job capturing the wild west than Grand Theft Auto 4 did of capturing life in a big city. Riding along the dirt roads between towns is breath-taking due to the detail put into the world (roaming wild life, such as rabbits, deer, coyote, armadillos, that you can hunt or tumble weeds blowing around), and the size of it all. Walking through town almost makes you feel like you're in a western, whether your playing poker in the saloon or racing your horse to the sheriff's office to turn in that bounty that's hog-tied on the back of your horse. Speaking of horses, there's quite the variety in them. Coloration can vary quite a bit along with the maximum speed each horse can reach.

I wasn't too impressed with it when I first put it in, but after playing around for a while it's grown on my tenfold. John Marston isn't just the typical "western protagonist". He's tough as nails, but still just wants to get home to his wife and kid to settle down again (add to that his manners and good or bad tendencies, depending on how you play). Combat is fluid for the most part, it took me a bit to get used to aiming my gun from horseback, but that was the only problem. All in all, it's an absolutely fantastic game from start to finish. I can't tell you how many times I just sat around playing poker (or blackjack) or outback of my house throwing horseshoes.

Dont know if anyone mentioned it yet (im lazy), but I saw on Attack of the Show last night that you can drop tied up people onto the train tracks as a train is approaching, al la old movie style. I'm not a gamer, but it was pretty funny.

This game is AMAZING. Funny enough, the game was delivered to my house on the release date while I was in class and I didn't get home until late. As I opened it, I suddenly remembered that I had a huge assignment due the next morning. So, for the first time in over a year (being the procrastinator I am), I finished a big assignment before midnight -- just so I could play this game.

It's easily one of the best games of the year thus far. Even if you don't particularly like Grand Theft Auto's sandbox style of play, there's so much to do in this game that you forget that it's from the same people behind the GTA series. The story is solid enough to stand on its own, but it's the side quests that make the game. This is one of those rare games where you actually want to do the extra stuff because it's legitimately fun. I've been hunting and cashing in on bounties and have only done a handful of story missions thus far.

At first, I hated being chased by random posses looking to pick a fight when I was out exploring, but then I started to appreciate how much it added to the Wild West fantasy. I enjoy playing my character as the Clint Eastwood archetype and it's basically every little boy's fantasy of being a cowboy.

If it wasn't for the adult themes and occasional harsh language, my 10-year-old nephew would probably love this game. Speaking specifically to the violence, I'm glad they didn't go too over-the-top and kept it strictly at spaghetti-Western. It only adds to the childhood fantasy factor.

Yeah, I've been sidetracked with the Sharpshooter, Survivalist, and Master Hunter side quests for a good few hours now lol Along with the bounties when they pop up. Along with *ahem* some blackjack to pass the time.

Damn, im getting this game you sold me even more than I was already sold. I remember going to my Grandparents farm and watching old John Wayne movies in black and white and just thinking how savage he was. Your Spaghetti-western line was the Mariano Rivera lol. Long weekend in Canada this weekend here I come!

My buddy was saying that you can go online and sort of create your own western gang and fight against other gangs(other online players), sounds like a cool game. Like someone said Rockstar usually does succeed.

Just got the game 2 days ago. I think its too much like GTA, only the setting is different. To me the Multiplayer is a fail.. The offline is alright, but i still dont think it deserves a 9.75 rating. I think GTA was better.

9.75 is spot on to me. Rockstar did a fantastic job adapting the open world feeling of GTA to a western setting, while avoiding make it feel like a reskinned GTA4. It's at very least worth a rent if you're unsure about it. Although I can't imagine why you would be.

I don't even think about GTA IV when I'm playing this game. It's just too different of a game, even with the open-world setting. I've yet to feel like there's all this open space and nothing to do in it. As I said before, almost every side quest is entertaining and fun to do. Nothing really feels like a chore, and even just walking around town is fun because you truly feel like the townspeople are in awe (or fear) of you.

As for the gameplay itself, unlike GTA, the guns actually feel like they do something. It takes only two or three shots to put a guy down, and you feel a sense of accomplishment when you get an accurate headshot from a distance. The standard revolver is actually good enough to carry you through more than a few hours of gameplay.

Yeah, I don't get a GTA feeling either while playing the game. Rockstar did a great job giving the game it's own identity. I've never once gotten the feeling of "hey, I'm playing a western Grand Theft Auto (or horse if you want to be nitpicky)" while playing.

Has anyone Taken over Fort Mercer Yet? That Mission was awesome. I loved how all the characters you have met so far in the game pitched in to help out in that Mission. And the missions leading up the that, like Stealing the Machine gun in the mine, was just purely epic.

I have done so many bounty hunting missions. I have taken them all alive. I enjoy hunting aswell, and finding new animals and seeing how much they are worth. Rockstar makes the best games. They are so detailed its amazing.

I've taken all the bounties aside from one alive. It was before I got the lasso, and I guess I got a little trigger happy, despite shooting him in the leg... and the left arm... then the other leg.... and well, then in his right arm.

I've also been doing every Stranger quest I've come across. The end of "Flowers for a Lady" was creepy haha.

They're all interesting and able to be done at your leisure (it's not like missions where you need to hurry off to the next part). Just another little thing that's addictive and fun while your out along the country side hunting and the like.
