Maybe one day if he ever returns he can reach DHB type numbers.

Should be interesting to see who the steelers put in his place tough luck for a player that seemed to hold his own on the field. Oh well tho.

Yes, who will match his fantastic production of one catch, five yards? Heck, I could do that!

Apparently, the Steelers have been disappointed with Sweed for a while. Just look at Mike Tomlin's face after his big drop in the AFC Championship versus us in 2008, that tells you everything. He was Ben's coveted 'big receiver' but he's only made 7 catches over the entirety of his two year career.

And you guys are disappointed in Mark Clayton?!

He hasn't had many chances. I think he's got 2-3 drops so that's 9-10 throws. Toss in a few over throws if you'd like, but hardly enough to condemn the dude.

Also, it was the AFC CHAMPIONSHIP GAME!!!! That TD would have devastated you guys and he dropped it. EVERYONE was disappointed.

A lot of Steelers fans would agree with you; I'm just not there yet. I honestly believed he was going to be pretty good. I just don't understand why he's not and now I have to wait another year to see if he's gotten it together. Shame too, because by all accounts he'd really been dedicating himself and was motivated.

We have plenty of time to add depth. We didn't get James Harrison until after training camp.

Yeah, I checked his stats on Pro-Football Reference and it also said he had two fumbles in '08. Say WHAT? Is that true?

Anywho, yeah I'm pretty sure everyone in Pittsburgh was hurting after that drop. Everyone in Baltimore was breathing a sigh of relief. And I had read he was re-focusing himself and trying to get his career back on track, as well. This would have been a great time to do that, too, with the uncertainty at receiver. Holmes left and they had a void to fill. Now, Wallace and Randle-El should do just fine but Sweed could have redeemed himself in that lineup. Now, he won't get the chance in 2010.

Hate to see anyone injured (especially enough to land on IR), but Sweed hasn't lived up to the expectations he had coming into the NFL. All in all, it's not a huge loss to their offense. Now if Hines Ward went down, then there would be trouble for Pittsburgh, since he's essentially their only superstar receiver left. Wallace has been good in his first year, but not enough to be called a big name receiver. Wonder who's going to be three on the Steeler's wideout depth chart. Randle El? lol

You'll change your opinion of Mike Wallace after this season.

Why are you dissin' Randel El??? Granted he'll be the slot guy and KR/PR, but those are his two strengths. Plus gadget plays due to his ability to throw. We have plenty of time to bring in another WR or two. Besides, I sense that we're planning on running a lot more AND in addition to Hines and Wallace (and El and M. Moore out of the back field) we have Heath Miller.

If I had a concern, it's how our secondary will perform and I STILL think we're in better shape there than you guys are. Once again, with all match-ups considered, we're probably pretty evenly matched overall.

No, no. Despite Wallace being a Steeler, I do think quite highly of him. He pulled off some great catches (especially the one catch in the end zone, had the awareness to drag his toes). I'm just saying he's not on Holmes level, but he is a very solid receiver. As for Randle El, I was never a fan. Although I do see your point in what he brings to the Steelers. However, I find Ward - Wallace- Randle El to be a big downgrade from Ward - Holmes - Wallace.

And isn't the Steelers secondary suspect every year?

Only when teams decide to throw on us. lol

No, we've fielded some pretty decent back fields before. But yes, it does seem like every two-to-three years, some OC see's "something" and before you know it, teams are dinkin' and dunkin' all over us.

Personally, I think Ike Taylor is overrated. He's good, and sometimes even great, but he's inconsistent. I wanted us to keep McFadden last year and trade Ike, but...

You know, Deshea Townsend, while slow, is one solid DB. He makes up for his lack of speed with his brains. He and Hines are the longest tenured Steelers (same '98 draft class).

haha, us even matched with the Steelers?? Thats funny. You'll see this year why the Ravens are much, much better than the Steelers when we win the Super Bowl and you all are packing up early before the playoffs for the SECOND straight year.
HA! You're ONE out of the last FIVE against us and I believe we've won TWO Super Bowls since your last one. Those are all FACTS whereas your post was pure SPECULATION.

We were having a nice football discussion. Considering that and the fact that this is a no smack forum, I would ask that you either contribute something of substance, or just run along. K?

Agreed. I always felt as if Townsend was the better of the two (between him and Taylor). Townsend always played smart football in the secondary. But if a receiver got separation and made the catch, they were gone.

If you put Townsend's football smarts into the body of Taylor you'd get Chris McAlister.

Never was a Mcallister fan, but I can't disagree either. How about a young Champ Bailey instead? lol
