This is also being discussed in the Madden 11 thread
here is another link

Now this is over the line... the DLC idea was a good one.... but (like ppl said in the Madden 11 thread) They get their $60 for the game.... now whether that game is given away or traded in..... it should still hold it's functionality.... This actually reminds me of the Bioshock 2 incident where the DLC was already on the disc......

It's like going out and buying a used car..... but the co. that made the car is making you pay apprx 17% of the cars value for a new steering wheel....

Seriously though, what is the gaming community coming to...

You've got 2k putting DLC (which you have to pay for) on the disc....

You've got Activision screwing Infinity Ward out of royalties to MW2

and now we've got this horse ****!?

Plus they will still charge you for all the little things that should of been in the game. So really you are paying 20-30 dollars extra if you want all the features. EA is raising the price for games without technically raising the price and Activision is trying to increase the DLC price. These publishers need the hammer brought down upon them in my opinion.

Wow...that is ridiculous.Just another reason for me not to play the newer maddens that come out. ahhh...who am I kidding. I dont even play sports games online. If I ever want my football fix I just put it ESPNNFL2k5 of Madden2005.

First thought was that the code synced up with the actual game system and I wondered what would happen if your ps3 or 360 broke. However I would think that the code syncs up with your live/psn ID. now what happens if you want to change your ID?

EA are trying to make PSN as profitable to them as Microsoft has made Xbox Live.

EA buy sole rights to a number of leagues meaning if you want an officialy licensed game you need to pay their extortionate prices. Last time I checked Monopolys were meant to be illegal...Apparently not if you're in the games industry.

No, I'm pretty sure they are doing the same thing to both consoles and PC...

which I find to be complete shenanigans I already have to pay monthly for a XBL Gold Membership (to allow you to play games online)..... that should entail any game I own whether given to me, bought new, or bought used (I can understand in some cases the Online RPG types) ..... that or I shouldn't have to pay monthly for Xbox Live and then have to pay for a code so I can play online

I predict the prices to drop for EA Sport games rather quickly especially for used games......

They say they deserve some sort of "compensation" for their used games..... but why do we the customers have to pay for it? Don't they understand we are in a pretty bad economy? ... and I for one agree w/ what someone else said earlier.... they get their $60 for that game...... ALL of that game... what happens to it after that is outside of their control.... but they were already compensated for someone to use that product....

now all of that aside, here's my question

What happens if they make it where the ppl working @ the stores have to give it to you.... and they run out..... or forget (it's happened to me before)

Im in as soon as Lewis and Reed retire (I want the latest game with them in it), Ive already decided that after those two are retired I wont buy another EA game until they make a game that was close to the quality and the price of 2k5. That stuff was what 20 bucks in 2005! COME ON EA YA DIRTBAGS.

EA's made huge strides with Madden 10 and people still dump on them. At least give them some credit when it's due. However, despite any credit given for the vast improvement in 10 is quickly becoming drowned out by the respect they're losing when it comes to decisions such as this. The bull that they were charging for in 10 was one hundred percent, completely optional, so no big deal they if they want to try to charge the silly people who want their star player for one more year in a franchise. However, they've crossed the "optional" line into "required" territory with their latest decision.

OT: You can't expect EA to release Madden at the "price" of 2K5 when it came out. Alot of money is put into developing a game, and EA would be losing money instead of making money if they tried releasing Madden 11 for $20.

well you obviously have to take into account for inflation for now. Its hard to give EA mad props, when theres a game thats 8 years older than Maddens latest versions that has a superior rendition of football and how players interact on a field.

Honestly, 2K5 isn't as great compared to Madden 10 as it was compared to previous Maddens. What 2K5 did right more than anything was presentation. Not saying 2K5 isn't a great game, it is. But I just couldn't get into playing it again honestly after playing Madden 10 (I even had updated rosters as of last year).

so what you're saying is that madden pretty much has the monopoly on the professional football franchises.... yet it took them nearly 6 years to put up a better game?

am I the only one missing something here?

I honestly have no clue what you're trying to say. Where did I say anything about Madden's monopoly or how long it took them to actually work on putting out a better game? I don't recall ever saying anything of the sort.

What I was saying was (to clarify), NFL 2K5 blew out nearly every Madden since 2004. Madden 09 started making steps in the right direction, while Madden 10 was actually a very competent and strong football game. So when going up against Madden 10, NFL 2K5 doesn't fare as well as it did against the previous Maddens. Where did you get anything about a monopoly or about how long it took to build a good NFL game?

You're acting as if I'm defending every Madden pre 10, which I'm not. So do not insinuate that I am. I don't care if it took them 6 years in their monopoly to make a great NFL game, I was never a Madden fan anyways. What I'm saying is people continue to say NFL 2K5 is leaps and bounds better than Madden, and it was until THIS year. 2K5's lead over 10 is extremely slim. It's pathetic that it took that long for EA to get that far, yes. It's also annoying that they are the only NFL game around now, yes. NFL fans should have had to deal with the lackluster games that EA was pushing since they bought out the NFL license. However, at least they've made strides in putting out a great football game, even if it took them 5 years to do it.

Respectfully disagree, the time and spacing aspect of Madden is still off compared to 2k5s, the Oline/Dline interactions are still not close, the pass rushing aspect is getting closer but ill still give the edge to 2k5, the tackling physics are still off you can get laid out blind sided and flick the stick forward and run through the tackle for forward progress. I cant even remember how many times I've done this with Rice, when was the last time Rice ran over somebody. The stiff arm is comical in Madden, its like a suplex toss with one arm. The Madden difficulty ratings are still tremendously skewed when you increase the difficulty all that does is corrupt players on your team, wide open drop passes, fumbles up the wazoo, your Oline doesnt touch anyone or open any holes. Man coverage is still done better in 2k5. Nobody is double teamed on the LOS by an Oline. Just the overall physical approach to football in 2k5 was better, better representation of what football is.

I'm not saying Madden 10 is better, nor am I'm saying it's perfect. I'm all too aware of Madden's mistakes, but when you look back at the previous years, it was alot worse than it is in 10. I can pop in 10 and have fun playing a few games. I can't say the same for any of the other Maddens. What I'm saying is it's closing the gap on NFL 2K5, although it's presentation is still lacking to 2K5, especially in franchise mode.

And "respectfully disagree" is such a loaded term =P

Ya I agree these new developers are doing good things, Madden 09 I thought was the pinnacle of poor football simulations and they turned it around in Madden 10 pretty quickly with only 1 year under their belt. But its still a ways off from 2k5.

Haha.

Yeah, like I said Madden 10 was a huge step in the right direction, although not perfect. That's why I look forward to 11, to see if they continue their forward progress or fall on their face again. It just baffles me how 2K5 could be out for 6 years and EA can't seem to fine tune their mechanics in the game. To me, at least Madden 10 is fun to play, which I can't say the same for the previous Maddens. I'll tell you one thing Madden has that NFL 2K5 doesn't: The Ability to change a player's position. I hate being stuck with JJ at defensive end or Ed Reed at strong safety.

Ya, although you can switch them during a game you cant change a position permanently which sucks. But if you continue to play the franchise mode all your packages stay the same from the game before. IE putting Suggs and Boulware on the Dline in the dime package as DEs/

wasn't trying to insinuate anything... never played 2k5... so I'm going off of what other people are saying..... (Madden is/was (after this bull crap they are pulling) the only football game I played) and I was saying that if it took them nearly 6 years to put out a game that competes/is better then 2k5... then maybe the whole monopoly shenanigans should be lifted.... after all competition breeds excellence

I'm surprised you never played it. If EA were smart, it'd let the contract with the NFL run out and let the 2K series come back, because you're right one hundred percent about competition. EA would be putting out better football games faster with a competitor, than the slow stroll they take now in refining their mechanics. Oh well, guess it goes to show you how much EA "fears" the NFL 2K series.

but it used and want to play it online well,if the one time code has been redeemed it'll cost you 5 bucks

Ubisoft is said to be implementing this also, these companies realize that used games is how some parents are able to afford these games right?I know they don't care but not everyone can shell 50-60 out for every game they want

Ubisoft is doing all sorts of ridiculous stuff as of late. Just look at their DRM system for the PC, it's downright stupid. You need to be connected to the Internet at all times, even just to play single player games, and that's just the start.

Yeah, old bump.

However, found a bit of news that pertains to this situation. You guys shouldn't be surprised to see more companies doing this. Sony has just announced that White Knight Chronicles 2 will feature a "unique code" to play online. So anyone who buys it used... surprise, surprise, are going to need to purchase a new code off PSN. More and more companies seem to be going this route with online content. It's not just EA.

I suppose that, in this economy, game publishers need to get creative in finding ways to make more money.

That said, honestly, I'm not sure how this will be a deterrent for people to buy used games since there's a decent segment of the gaming population that doesn't do online multiplayer. Now, once they start charging just to download free DLC, that's a whole different matter entirely...
