Ravens Sign Travis Fisher

Free agent CB Travis Fisher could be signed to the Ravens roster as soon as this week.
Fisher, 30, reportedly had a strong tryout this weekend and says he was pretty much told he'll get signed. It shows just how desperate the Ravens are for corner depth with Lardarius Webb and Fabian Washington both recovering from ACL surgery.

Rotoworld had said Fisher is pretty much done when they reported the team extended him a try-out offer. Guess they were wrong.

I mean Depth is depth but I dont see this guy doing anything for us.
Neither do I but none us thought anything of the Kelly Washington and Cris Carr signings last season and both became keys players as the season went on.

In reality most players get better when they are pooled in with good players Baltimore Ravens defense has a bunch of good players. All the teams that Fisher has played on were not teams that contend in let alone there own division.

Foxworth and Washington didn't get better last year. So a guy who really never even had potential and been a mediocre player his entire career is going to get better? If you are a good player, you make your own plays, thats what makes you good. Asomugha's team doesn't contend, it doesn't stop him from shutting every WR down. If the defense was going to make Fisher better, then we would've seen our current corners get better last year (they might've even got worse e.g washington), even Frank Walker or Corey Ivy should've been better with the Ravens defense then, so why should we bother looking for anyone else in the first place.

Fabian didn't really improve but Foxworth did; as did Carr and Walker.

Asomugha is one of the few exceptions to the rule that a player can dominate despite being surrounded by average players. I'm not saying Fisher would become an All-Pro here(assuming he's signed) but he would likely improve as a player.

Fisher isn't bad, nor is he good. He's pretty average, which isn't a knock on him. Don't expect him to be a play maker, but he'll be good depth behind the starters. Not to mention, last I checked he didn't have massive penalty issues.

Yes he is.

Veterans like Fisher are often better mentors than players, and can teach position nuances and things they can't do. That would increase his value to the team.

Well Washington was pretty clutch but Chris Carr did more bad than he did good. He is my least favorite Raven. Of all time.

C'mon, Carr stepped up his game alot towards the end of the regular season and into the playoffs. I remember him making a few good hits, breaking up a few passes, and even picking a few passes off.

Everyone can have good games but not everyone can be a good player, so the question remains... is it the exception or the rule?

His fumble in Foxborough aside, what did he do that was so bad?

Like AtD said, he wasn't signed to be a starter in the first palce but slowly became a solid player as the season went on. He shut people down for the most part against NE and Indy in the post-season.

Besides the laundry list, I ll just say he was out of position a lot, missed tackles, fell down a lot, was arrogant, wasnt explosive on returns, ran into team mates, etc.

He did pick up the slack in the post season but I mean so did Frank...

Frank causes so many penalties but the one thing I like about him is he jams at the LOS. Fox and Fabe play about ten yards off the ball and usually slip up while back pedalling. I like aggresive corners. Like Charles Woodson and Cmac.

Can't be any worse than Walker.

Ya know, was just about to go on one of my pointless tantrums, then after reading this, I got a laugh and now I cant whine.

Kind of OT, but sums up my opinion of the subject of the thread---

Brett Favre has been banned from ALL of my Madden teams, even exhibition games, for about 6-7 years now. I simply refuse to use him.

Why?

Because every time I used him, he would throw 3-4 picks, and without fail, they would be go ahead or game winning drives that got squandered.

Fisher is also banned from all things Madden.

Why?

Because he would tear my a$$ up every single time I played against him. Boller simply never stood a chance (much like in real life), and mind you I would drop 500 yard passing games all day long against the Steelers using Boller.

This seemingly wacky world of grave injustice where Boller and Fisher were primo superstars, and Favre was the object of my contempt, made me realize that Madden is actually an inversive parrallel universe.

In other words, if you're a stud in Madden, the laws of physics dictate that you MUST be a scrub in real life.

And so, that is the tale of how Travis Fisher has recieved my disdain, and why I am not too thrilled about this bit of news.

I see your point, but he is still pretty awful in coverage, and Carr isn't much better. I just wish Walker would cut down on the penalties.

To be fair, I think both Carr and Walker could stand to play a lot better in the regular season, not just the post season.

That's a hilarious way to look at this pickup xD. However, isn't Ray Ray always in the 94-99 range =P? He's no scrub.

That's every year with Walker. He'll stink it up the entire regular season, and only play to his abilities in the post season. We've only seen Carr for one season, so we can't liken that to Walker's post season increase. This is the year for Carr to prove that he can continue to play the way he did at the end, because alot of what you mention came from the beginning of the season. Hell, even towards the end of the year he was looking more comfortable returning punts (although he still wasn't an great punt returner). It's entirely too early to damn him just yet.

Yes, but any Madden gamer can tell you that the number listed underneath "OVR" measures the players popularity, and nothing else. How else can Matt Ryan be an 87 after his rookie year on the final roster patch, while Joe Flacco began his rookie year at 79 and his "OVR" remained at 79 after the final roster patch came out after the season?

And also would explain why a guy with "-37" listed under OVR is a Favre slayer.

There are lies, damn lies, and Madden ratings!

Madden certainly does get it wrong...A LOT. Can't disagree there. Isn't Flacco an 86 or 87 now? I'm still unhappy with that overall designation, but that'll change when he throws for 4000+ yards and over 30+ touchdowns this year.

It did amuse me that Yamon Figurs was the lowest rated player in the game when Madden 10 came out. Although it didn't amuse me nearly as much as ESPN calling Figurs a "Key Addition" to the Raiders during the draft.

I thought for sure the Raiders were going to take Yamon at #1 overall

I don't know much about Fisher other than what I've read here and on other sites. I do know we need depth at the position and someone with experience could help. I would still like to see us try to obtain someone good before camp, but it seems to be pretty slim pickings out there. If Coach sees something in the guy that may help us that's good enough for me, bring him on board. I do hope the FO still strives to get us more decent help though.
