Ozzsome

Sergio Kindle?

On paper, it's AMAZING how much more physical Kindle is over Johnson. Kindle is going to become a monster playing opposite Suggs when he takes over the starting position.

Kindle: 6'3", 250lbs, 4.65 40', 9'10" broad

Johnson: 6'2 1/2", 285lbs, 5.07 40', 8'11" broad

I have to give it to Ozzie, we're very lucky to be Ravens fans. Best FO in the game, one of the best owners in all of sports, one of the most experienced coaching corps in the NFL, a probowler at pretty much every position and we always have amazing drafts.

Which further illustrates how great these veterans have been so far. Gregg was also giving the same sorts of pointers to his heir apparent, Mt. Cody. It really seems like these players are thinking bigger thaan themselves. Their personal stats are taking a back seat to the team goal. I can't wait for the season to start!

How old are those Jarret Johnson combine stats? They're not even relevant, anymore..
[/quote]
Well theyre relevant in its comparison in pure athleticism, but what they dont measure is how through the roof JJs football IQ is.

They're even more relevant now. Jarret is older, probably slower. Although... he has experience.

I'm saying those stats, compared, are useless. Jarret Johnson hasn't been 285lbs in quite some time, he lost a lot of it to play OLB. And Johnson may be older but he is, now, only 28; he hasn't 'slowed down' as much as one would think. Everyone knows Kindle is more athletic than Johnson, that's never been a debate, but that doesn't make him a better football player.. yet

I dont think we should get too high on Kindle yet, bring him along slowly like we did with Suggs, give him one assignment without any checks on each play and just let him rush the passer in a 3 point stance on pass downs.

Whoa, who said Petey Boulware? Thats my dude there.

And it's actually a pretty good comparison for the type of player Kindle is.

I know that most of you guys want to take it slow and bring Kindle along, and that is a very sensible approach, but I say the heck with that.
Move JJ inside next to Ray. Start Suggs and Kindle. I dont want a repeat of the Kruger situation last year.
In 4-3 formations, JJ can come in for Kindle, since he is a more sound tackling machine.

I'm having dreams about:

Suggs-JJ-Lewis-Kindle

Ngata-Cody-Kruger

Just freak-nasty right there!

I do think that when Kindle gets regular playing time, we'll be seeing mainly 3-4 formations. We're still a DE short of running a 4-3 all the time like we used to back in the day.
But man, with a front seven like we've got, we can pretty much do whatever we want.

I am pumped to see this kid play, what if he keeps his #49.

I`m hoping he has a Suggs-like rookie campaign.

As much as I'd love to see that as well, I don't think he'll get double digit sacks this year, let alone 12/

Linebackers are only allowed to have numbers in the 50-59 and 90-99 range.

Yeah, it's only a placeholder until players are cut.

Yes, indeed. Same situation as Dannell Ellerbe, wearing #48 throughout mini and training camp.

Which begs the question, which linebacker (or defensive lineman) will be cut? 56 (Gooden), 59 (Ellerbe), 55, and 52 are safe. So that leaves, 51 (Ayanbadejo), 50 (Barnes), 53 (McClain), 54 (Burgess) and 58 (Phillips). In the nineties, there's 94 (VanDeSteeg), 96 (Divens), and 98 (Talavou).

VanDeSteeg is striking me as the odd man out, too much talent at his position.

That's the same thing that I have been wondering ever since the draft. For what it's worth, I would think VanDeSteeg, Burgess, McClain, and Barnes are all questionable; the ones that can perform the best on ST are going to remain Ravens. Phillips is probably safe, the organization raved about after the draft, last season, and will probably want to see him play. I think the coaches like Divens and Talavou because they provide solid depth at DT, but, if one is cut due to the drafting of Cody/Jones, it's probably going to be Talavou. Also, Ayanbadejo's slow recovery from his injuries could force him to be cut. Just a possibility.

If I had it my way, we would retain Barnes, McClain, Phillips, Divens, and Ayanbadejo (healthy). But, of course, my opinion doesn't mean squat to the Ravens haha.

Vandesteeg, Burgess, and Phillips would be my guess for a possible release. Barnes when he actually gets to play can still get after the QB as good as anyone on our roster. McClain I think has too much upside combined with versatility to let go, Ayenbedejo will play out the last year on his contract(think thats right)and then we'll let him go and Tommy Z becomes the captain on special teams. Phillips I really want to see how he performs because hes incredibly cerebral on the football field and is actually on of the few true MLB on our team (Ellerbe, Lewis, Phillips imo). But Ellerbe is a guy Lewis has to hold hands with on game day, he wouldnt have to do the same with Phillips(note, im not debating Ellerbe vs Phillips as a starter). Burgess is a special teams force, but he offers basically nothing in our defensive packages, the other LBs can at least provide in sub packages, or cna play multiple positions.

Edit- All I know is if Phillips is kept he should just give the number to Kindle. 94 and 54 just dont look like good pass rushing numbers lol

I just can't see us keeping 5 defensive tackles (Gregg, Cody, McKinney, Divens, and Talavou). Something tells me Jameel McClain could be safe, after all the talk of him being in contention for Scott's spot.

I agree and think VanDeSteeg could be the odd man out. Sergio Kindle #94, a little different but I like it. It would be great to see around 7 sacks from him.
