RUMOR: Gaither to Bills?

670 posts in this topic

Multiple twitters are perking up...

Schefter (LINK):
NFL sources still expect Ravens OT Jared Gaither to be traded before season and Bills are most likely destination - they want him.

Aaron (LINK):
Reported Gaither had NO snaps at LT today

Hensley (LINK):
There's rumors circulating that Gaither will be traded to Bills before the season. #Ravens

Hrm... wonder what the Bills have to trade aside from draft picks?

Lee Evans is about the only good player on that team, and we've already addressed that issue. Unless they want to grab Leodis McKelvin or maybe even Terrence McGee.

Oh, goodness, why????? This is a terrible move, should it go down. Unless we get a Corner and a 1st or 2nd Round pick (or more), it shouldn't even be entertained.

Oniel Cousins at RT???? Come on, now!!!!

Please take note that this is a rumor, not concrete news -- yet.

Thought about that after I posted. Thanks for the fix, Rock =)

Interesting, at least Schefter is credible, so this I believe. I posted it earlier about how Oher took snaps at Left Tackle today, and didn't think we should read too much into it, but now I'm starting to see why. I just wonder... can we merge this with the Gaither thread that got bumped to the second page, that we can just keep all Gaither Trade Talk in one thread.

I figured that it would end up being the Bills we send Gaither to since they did not fill their Left Tackle need during the draft. This will mostly be either a 2nd round pick in 2011 and some random player. I highly doubt it will be a first but considering it's the Bills, I'll gladly take a high second round pick for Gaither in the 2011 draft.

IF this is true, I can see something along the lines of Leodis and maybe a 3rd in return.

It would make sense in light of Harbaughs comments about adding a CB.

I also personally believed he was the best CB of his class, i the mold of C-Mac.

I DO NOT want to see Gaither go, but if we get Leodis and at least a third in return, I will be happy.

Let me explain it for the 1,000th time.... we can not afford to keep Gaither.

Gaither wants a big LT contract. Oher is being paid millions and in 2-3 years will get a big LT contract. Essentially we'd be paying 6-8 million a year to two LT's. Additionally, next year Gaither is a free agent- and odds are he'll want to go somewhere else that needs him and will pay him more money that we will.

SO... if he's going to walk next season, might as well get something for him while he still belongs to us and is a premier LT, no?

Keeping Gaither isn't an option.

If I remember correctly, didn't Gaither say Baltimore is where he wants to be a few months ago? It's alot easier to work with players who love the team they're on (contract wise). And is there any links where Gaither directly states he wants a huge LT contract, or is that an assumption (based upon who his agent is)?

I'll take Byrd, McKelvin, and a 3rd Rounder for Gaither. Sure, that will never happen, but hey, it's the Bills and they're desperate for offensive line help.

Now that I think about it, I actually like this idea (Leodis and a 3rd).
All I wanted out of this post season was to reload on defense, and reclaim our #1 spot.
McKelvin is the final piece to the puzzle, even after Webb and Fabe returns.
Webb, Foxworth, McKelvin and Washington....and Ed Reed playing centerfield.
Tell me THAT wouldn't get your blood pumping!!

That'd never happen. At best it'd be McKelvin and a 5th or 6th.

Former top 15 pick from 2008 for Gaither? Not so likely. I certainly wish it was true though!!!

They do have a few good young corners but I'm not sure I would make the move for McKelvin and a 2nd for Gaither...it would definitely help our secondary...eventually you would have a combo of Foxworth, Webb, and McKelvin which is very good but is it worth watching Cousins play RT all season? That remains to be seen.

I would hope to get McKelvin, Byrd, and a 4th but they may be too advantageous. Still, Cousins on the line worries me...

If you're gonna trade a young franchise LT at least get something decent in return. The Bills got a 1st, 4th and 6th round pick for Peters. We should be able to get a late 1st for Gaither, or at least an early 2nd. Anything below that we shouldn't even consider. We might as well just keep him for another season, then let him become a UFA and then pick up a 3rd round (comp.) pick the next year.

Would the Bills even want to trade McKelvin or McGee? It will probably just be for a 2011 2nd round pick. Which I would not take for Gaither.

Hate to see Gaither go, but for a guy we snatched outta the Supplemental Draft we are sure to get some value for him

If we trade Gaither, Joe is going to get killed. If he doesn't have time to throw, it doesn't matter how good our WRs and TEs are.

Aim high my friend. After QB, a young, dominant LT is the most sought after player on the football field.
A guy like Gaither is extremely valuable on the open market.

I mean, this is Oz, after all. The guy just stole Boldin for a couple mid round picks, I think he can take the Bills behind the shed on a deal for Gaither.

calm down there killer, there are thousands of topics here in Ravens talk..... not everybody is going to read ALL of them... so more likely then not there will be more people who don't know where you stand on said subjects
--------------------------------------------------------

There is always an option/chance... Until the Front Office comes out and says "We are not going/willing/able to resign Gaither", the opportunity is on the table

I think we could milk more than a 2nd rounder for Gaither, honestly.

He's worth a high second/late first.

You mean the same Oz that took the Broncos to a very poorly lit & empty parking lot?

Bro... he took the Broncos behind Lawrence Taylor's house, dressed them in pigtails and left them to their doom.

I don't think so. Now if Oher moves to Left, who would start at Right Tackle? I think Ramon Harewood was drafted to be a developmental Right Tackle and he won't be ready at least for another year, maybe 2 years. I'm sure we'll find a veteran RT to sign until Harewood is ready.

If you could recall in the 08 draft, all the analysts thought we were going to get him with the 8th overall pick.
