For the people that have said in this thread that Cody wasn't agile in college must have never watched him play. Even at the combine, he showed good feet and good fast twitch movements for his size and with his goal of 335, it will only help make him that much more explosive. Athletes come in all shapes and sizes.... He's make his shape a bit less round and we will gain from this type of dedication when he follows thru with it. Have you guys ever watch Wilfor play? Cody has more drive to get healthy. Big Vince is VERY CLOSE to 400 lbs.

I honestly think Cody could have the most natural strength of any player ever drafted (considering he's obviously not a weight room guy) I can't wait to see what 3 years with strength coaches will do for him.
Remember the jump between years 1 and 2 for Ray Rice? Now think of Cody's jump being similar. He'll really come into his own once a full off-season of lifting is behind him.

I don't think a couple pounds of equipment will slow down a 340lb man that much...

That might be appropriate if he was a "workout warrior" like "The Incredible Bulk" Tony Mandarich (bust) or someone who looked great but had questionable football skill.

Cody dominated the line of scrimmage in college, though. He's a guy who always performs better on the field and on game tape than many have assumed from his "something to be desired," heretofore flabby physique. He played top competition at Oklahoma, and should be as good if not better in the NFL with improved conditioning.

I agree with your reasoning in general, but Cody isn't really the kind of hyped-up (Brian Bosworth), unproven commodity that would usually be said about.

Minnesota has the Williams Wall but the Ravens could quickly find themselves with a ____________ insert clever nickname here.

I like the direction you're going but Ngata isn't fat he is as solid as they come. It is catchy, but we are getting closer...

Played @ Alabama.

Other than that I agree wholeheartedly. Cody could very well be one of those guys who does exactly what he's supposed to do--Plug holes and wear down O-Lineman--with or without hype. I'm still in love with this pick. :baltimore-ravens:

Thanks man, I like it. It was kind of a tie-in with Mount Rushmore and the whole dark Poe thing. I like the idea of replacing the word "Rush" (ie rushing the ball) with "Never" (ie never rush the ball). :3dtext10082zo1:

My only fear is that by slimming him down to 330 we take away what made him a player in the first place, his incredible size. He isn't ever going to be a pass rusher, we got him to make life hard for interior linemen, and I doubt they would enjoy hauling 360 pounds of arse round all after noon. But if he loses 30 pounds of fat and gains 10 pounds of muscle the dropoff shouldn't be too much of an issue.

They'll have him cut down to around 320ish then bulk him back up to 350-360. Replace fat with muscle.

Gain 40lbs of muscle? We're not trying to pull a Brian Cushing, here.

There's no way to accurately predict his weight. NFL linemen gain and lose weight over the course of the season, it fluctuates wildly. It may say that Vince Wilfork is 325lbs on NFL.com but he's, in actuality, much bigger. I'm not too concerned with Cody's weight, number-wise, he just needs to gain endurance and still keep his strength and power.

Gotta agree here, it'd take him 4 or 5 years to put on that much muscle.

Or thinking of Dan Cody, who played at Oklahoma. One of the biggest 'could-have-beens' in Raven history.

I like the fact that Cody has acknowledged his weight as a personal problem, because that shows that he cares and that he is going to work on getting it down. I was so excited after our draft and cannot wait for the season to start. I think we are going to make some serious noise this season and turn some heads in the NFL. I friend of mine isn't a Ravens fan and he said that he feels that the NFL fans don't really know that much about the Ravens and that their not thought of. Well I certainly think that is going to change this year.

Not particularly as Cody is an easy gainer. His weight loss to date is mostly water weight, with fat coming off slower, it's also likely that he won't drop below 340.

I still think his ideal playing weight will be back at a quality 355-360lb.

I was so scared PIT was going to take him or the Phins. But when he dropped to us all i could do is let out a big scream
I know so was I. Especially when you consider the obvious need for them to replace Hampton soon. If we didn't get a replacement for Gregg our fallback option would have been to put Ngata at nose so we were ok either way.

I'm even more psyched since we all know Pitt drafted that big center in the first round specifically to be more physical at the point of attack and to handle the big nose tackels in our division. So what do we do...draft the biggest NT in the draft and a player that gave Pitt's guy trouble in college. Love it!!
