Terrence Cody Impressing

70 posts in this topic

I was not a big supporter of Cody leading up to the draft but getting him at 57 was undeniable value. I couldnt wait to see pics of him from training camp and you know what...

Dude is looking way better than the infamous shirtless draft photo. His face is thinner he looks tall and surprisingly agile for his size and wants to play at 335. The Ravens will definitely whip him into good shape. It's a relief to know he has and is taking conditioning seriously.

Thoughts??

I think he's come to the right place. He's now under the influence of guys like Ray and other heroes on the defense. Any high defensive draft prospect that comes to the Ravens has NO excuse for not shining after a few years. Should only a matter of time before he wreaks havoc in this league. I can already envision him crushing Roethlisberger and Palmer.

I'll admit that I was strongly against drafting Cody, for well documented reasons (weight, stamina, no pass rush, no athleticism).

But this is a step in the right direction.

i will wait until he plays a few games before I make any judgements. I want to see how he plays, and how he handles himself in the big leagues first. You can tell if a guy "has it" or not within his first month.

Please serve me a plate of crow, extra helpings too, I'm hungry....
(nevermind, lol....)

If Cody remains that destined to improve in his game and his size, he will be one of the best NTs for years to come.

Cody is a "mini-project" so to speak. The Raven's staff will slim him down, put some muscle on him and work on conditioning and build his stamina back up. He won't ever be a 3 down DT- but he'll be unstoppable next to Ngata in the 4-3.

we need to take this one specific thing into account for any nay sayers, at teh combine he was 380+ he is now 350 this kid since the combine I has been working on his own to get his wieght down . now some of the trade secrets of Gregg are going to be handed down and the mountain will awaken and all running backs will fear running against MT Cody

I actually was a supporter of Cody before the draft, I understood what he could do for this defense. He had questionable issues with weight and stamina, but i knew the Ravens training staff could correct that. Hes going to be a HUGE addition to what we do here in the long run, him and ngata will wreck havok on offensive lines. Ontop of that... Greg already has him under his wing, teaching him the ins and outs of recognizing things, and little things to take from movements and indicators... im sure he'll help with his technique also, considering kelly is one of the most technically sound linemen in the game. Cant wait to see what Mt. Cody becomes....its gonna be beastly. I consider this move pretty similar to what we got when we got ngata..

werd...but I still think we'll be running mostly 3-4.
suggs, lewis, ellerbe/Gooden, Johnson/Kindle
Ngata, Cody, Pryce

i like the idea that he wants to get into really good shape also. when he gets down to about 330. thats only gonna help in condition and his quickness and speed.from what im hearing he already has a quick first step

I think we'll be running both actually, only because ellerbe turned out to be a playmaker and needs to be on the field at times.

But Ray said it himself yesterday... "hes going to enjoy playing behind a line made up of suggs, ngata, cody, price/redding"...i see us running a 4-3 most of the time considering mattison likes getting pressure from his line.

I agree I cant wait to see him play....UI was a Cody basher, but now I have fell in love with him.

Now the only dilemma I have is that I dont know who's jersey to get... Kindle or Cody. Both are promising players with potential, but I like both.

He actually looks in shape and better then the shirtless photo of him.

Its good to hear that (even though its in practice) he isn't just clogging up runs but actually collapsing the pocket and getting penetration if he could become even just somewhat of a factor in the pass rush his impact would be two-fold. If he gets into a strength program with Ngata and Ray he is going to have that strength and muscle to push through that pocket.

Exciting stuff...

I honestly think Cody could have the most natural strength of any player ever drafted (considering he's obviously not a weight room guy) I can't wait to see what 3 years with strength coaches will do for him.

I think they can develop him to contribute to the pass rush. With Nagta and Cody drawing double teams and working to collapse the pocket, it will leave a lot of opportunities for your outside pass rushers. Too many times, QB's were able to step up in the pocket to avoid the pass rush.

I cant see Cody ever becoming a force as a pass rusher.
However, he wont need to. He was drafted to help allow Suggs and Kindle wreak absolute havoc.

A thankless job, but absolutely critical.

Our defensive line will probably be the best in the league if Cody comes along as most expect him to.
Him, Ngata, Gregg, Kruger, Pryce....those guys will allow for some devastating fronts, whether in 3-4, 4-3, 46, goalline, and everything in between.
And guys like Suggs and Kindle, and of course Ray, will reap huge benefits from it.

I think you're jump way too far ahead saying he "looks agile for his size". Cody was still having trouble with his movement skills heading into the draft, there hasn't been enough time yet for him to really increase his agility. It'll still be a while before he has any real abilities that moving around blocks and getting to the quarterback most likely. If anything, we won't see an increase in his agility until at least next year. As Fly says, chances of him ever developing into a true pass rushing tackle is unlikely. At very least, he can get his strength up to match his size, and start demanding most of the attention from the opposing offensive line. Which would open up alot of space for our actual pass rushers to work with for the sacks. That won't happen this year though, not unless he puts alot of work into his weight (still), conditioning, and his strength.

Cody this year will develop and actually might be a nice pass rusher.. In college is always was double team and Saban never actually called for him to get penetration or rush. Actually we really dont need that from him either, but who are you going to double team ngata or cody both will command it and blocking them straight up will cause the pocket to collapse up the middle and allow our edge rusher to get to the QB. Even right now, I doubt 85-90% of O lineman can block Cody one on one. The regular season will give him a chance to get his feet we adjust to NFL game and our scheme and by playoff time. I'm sure his conditioning will be better strength even better and NFL IQ better. Barring injury our D line will get pressure on a 4 man rush, something we could not go last year and also stop the run.. Allow for exotic packages from our defense. Cody is going to turn out being excellent pick for us years to come.

I think Cody can learn a lot from Coach Brooks and playing with this defense. I see a potential probowler in the making.

He's an impressive young man who is willing to do what it takes to be dominant in this league. I couldn't ask for anything more really.
