Garrett Leaves Without Signing

48 posts in this topic

Let the greenhorn go to Atlanta or back to Jerry Jones. How about this for a well-experienced team; HC-Dennis Green, OC-Cam Cameron DC-Rex Ryan.

Rex is getting a head coaching job. The only way he stays is if he is our head coach.

Let Garret angle himself right into the Atlanta job...all I got to say is good luck rebuilding that franchise!!! The guy has only 3 years of NFL coaching experience -- and he didn't look like a particular genius in the playoff game Sunday. I say good riddance!!! If he didn't like what we had to offer, don't call us, we'll call you.

I'll say it again -- if we hire from outside the organization, and we are looking for youth I think John Harbaugh is the man...(look at Harbaugh vs. Cowher on Wikipedia and other web sources, and you'll see they have followed a nearly identical road to a HC job.)

If we stay within house Rex is the next man up...

If netiher of them fits the organization's plans then hire Marty Schottenheimer, encourage him to get some young coordinators and not the relics he has had hanging around him lately, make a 3 year run to the Super Bowl (or less) and promote one of the coordinators to HC.

But that's how I see it from the peanut gallery ;) !!!

The only benefit I see of getting a HC quickly - be it Garrett or not is getting all the other coaching staff in place.

Apparently if Garrett takes a HC job he already has his staff in mind with Capers & Camereon.

I know we don't wanna rush things but we are really hiring many coaches not just 1 - so timing is very important.

Everyone - including myself are frustrated with Garrett - but realistically he is doing the smart thing by going through with all his interviews set up. Can't blame the guy for wanting to know all of his options & deals & then needing some time to process it. I for one hate to make rushed decisions - may times it is the smart thing to take some time to evaluate - no matter how good an offer looks.

Seems to me that he's playing the system, Jerry Jones already told him that whatever the Ravens or ATL offers him that he will match it, Garrett is letting the Ravens and ATL run up the offer that way Jones will pay him more.Smart move if you ask me.Its all about the Benjamins!!

Though I've taken a self-imposed vow of silence when it comes to the hot-button issue of the coaching search, I'll say that I'm glad that Jason Garrett didn't walk away from Ravens HQ as the new head coach in town.

And I'm saying that ONLY because I believe the coaching search should continue, if only to feel comfortable with how thorough the committee is being in their search.

I'm sorry, but as anxious as most of the fan base must be about naming a new head coach, roughly 15 days is too short of a search, IMO.

I'll say that, although I favor some candidates over others, I really DON'T CARE who the new head coach is, as long as he's the RIGHT FIT. I don't care if he's a coach with name recognition or is a popular pick, as long as he proves that he can get the job done throughout the rest of this offseason and the season to follow.

I mean, yes, I'm excited to be reading news after roughly a week of silence. But as someone pointed out, just because there's no new news doesn't mean progress isn't being made. Since we live in the Information Age, with all of this technology and info at our fingertips, we expect results instantaneously.

Frankly, I wouldn't care if they wait until March to name a new head coach (not likely), as long as it's THE RIGHT CHOICE.

Good riddance Wayne Garrett. You saved the Ravens the embarrassment of making the another bad decision. Bisciotti, Cass, and Ozzie made the mistake of signing Brian Billick to a 4 year extention over his usual 3 year contracts, extended the contract of Kyle Boller an extra year with a bump up to 3 million and now were hell bent on signing an overhyped NFC offensive coordinator with 1 year experience as head coach. Not smart football business by these 3. Let's hope they wake up and make amends for these past horrific decisions by signing the only logical Ravens choice as Ravens' HC, Rex Ryan.

Well with Garrett out of the picture (most likely) ...........We can now get Dennis Green.......

Nice pull. Hadn't thought of Dennis Green. It's be nice to see what he's do with genuine talent around him. The last time he had talent, he was in Minnesota with that juggernaut of an offence. And besides, with Green as coach, Camp CreamPuff would definitely be out of the window.

as i recall we just fired one of the men responsible for that juggernaut offense in minnesota... do we really want the other one too?? Denny Green has a nice overall record and some playoff wins, I believe he is something like 12-8 overall in the playoffs but after seeing him implode in arizona im not sure he would fit in too good with our group of guys. I am wondering why we havent looked at Russ Grimm, he is a cowher guy and I think he would install the dicipline we need along with bringing in a fresh look on the offense. Just an idea, want to see what everyone else thinks

i was listening to Sirius last night and they mentioned Russ Grimm as a guy who could definitely be a head coach but doesnt want to be a head coach. people talk about him and then whoever has him offers him more money to stay and thats the way he likes it. i honestly dont know that much about him but thats what the radio hosts were talking about. but who knows...

I think Denny Green has retired but I dont blame him for everything gone wrong in Arizona. Its the Cardinals for goodness sake. It doesnt matter who their coach or players are they will suck because their front office is that bad. The Cardinals have been bad almost constantly for a very long time, its almost a tradition for the Lions, Browns, and Cardinals to suck. A coach isnt going to change that tradition, to change something like that it starts from the top.

I just got a text message from Yahoo sports saying that Garrett turned down the ravens offer. any truth to this?

I do not see that he declined the job on any of the sports pages. I see he is doing his second round of interviews in Atlanta.

Sparano takes the job in Miami.

Just an aside...I appreciate Josh Lukin's blog on how Garrett will either be loved or hated depending on the outcome, but some of us said it was too soon for him to be head coach all along.
