Does A Market For T.O. Exist?

12 posts in this topic

So recently, NFL.com was discussing if there's even a market for Terrell anymore. The conclusion is no, there isn't. And I for one tend to agree with them. Teams have been passing on him left and right (even the McNabb backed Redskins who went for Bobby Wade and Joey Galloway over TO). Jacksonville and Chicago have passed. Seattle and Cincinnati drafted wide receivers over TO (Tate, Shipley, Briscoe). The remaining teams that could even be remotely interested are Detroit, Tampa Bay, St. Louis, and Kansas City. Oh, and the Raiders (because "The Raiders, of course, are the Raiders"). They went on to say that barring an injury in training camp, TO could be waiting a while for his next job.

My thoughts? When teams are going after Bobby Wade over you, maybe you should think about hanging it up. Let's face it, Owens isn't going to find another championship caliber team anymore, they're set on receivers. And adding Owens to the Lions, Bucs, Rams, or Chiefs aren't going to make any of them playoff teams. Oh wait, it also doesn't help matters much when you're asking for five million dollars, Terrell. Not many teams are going to be willing to drop that much cash for a declining receiver who's past his prime.

Oh, and it did amuse me that one of the comments suggested that Pittsburgh pursue Owens because "Who's left after Ward (and let's face it, he's getting up there)?". I'm paraphrasing, but that was the exact point they were making. Logic: Hines Ward = Old. Add Terrell Owens. Terrell Owens = Old. Does not compute, sorry.

I think tampa bay is bets for him. I mean Bucs dont have a clear #1 guy and I Areelious Benn could be that guy, but T.O. could also be the #1 WR for 1 year. Josh Freeman needs all targets he cna get.

He needs humble pie, all the damage he's done to his own teams over the years is coming back to haunt him.

New VH1 show Shot at Humble Pie with T.O.

I'd watch that heh.

I don't think TO is going to get signed unless someone goes down with injury. Oh, and lowers his price. He should just retire, he doesn't need another Bills-esque season. I'm not a fan of him, but he's had one fantastic career. No need to add another meh-season to that.

I know few people have sympathy for T.O. but its pretty sad that his career is on the verge ending this way.

I dont see anything sad; not like he's being publicly humiliated (like he did his teammates.) An aging star, waiting by the phone...happens all the time.
If you ask me, he doesnt deserve the dignity of inconspicuously riding off into the sunset. He should be tarred and feathered.

I don't mean the general situation is sad(like you said, it's common). I'm talking specifically about his career and how it looks like its ending. To go from a pretty good situation in Dallas, to toiling away in obscurity in Buffalo and now waiting for a desperate team to call you.

Wouldn't make much sense for Tampa. They also drafted Mike Williams who is more polished than Benn, and can probably be a starter from day 1. They already have Clayton as the veteran presence for the youngsters.

Benn and Williams can both become starters, and T.O. would only slow down their growth by taking their playing time.
