Honestly... I've never even heard of this game before. I'm always a tad bit suspicious of non-NFL football. Aside from Mutant League Football, that game was awesome... <.<;

It's been in development hell for years and despite a great gimmick, it probably won't be a Madden killer as far as football sims go.

Though I understand that first-year titles will struggle at some level, this game has too many flaws from what I've seen. There's no way it can compete with Madden, nor will it be able to do decent numbers on its own given the money that's been pumped into its development over the years.

UFC 2009 was the definitive example of a first-year sports franchise that could get things mostly right the first time around. It's a shame that Backbreaker can't be the same.

The fact that they have no licensing rights to the NFL basically kills it.

It looks like a bulked-up, poor graphics Madden with no licenses. Madden Killer? Not a snowballs hope in hell.

The gimmick is the Natural Motion engine, basically it means realistic tackles/hits that are never the same.

NFL Blitz with no license and ragdoll physics...I'll pass

Fair enough, dude check out the Madden 11 blogs. I hate EA with a vengeance but it all looks pretty impressive so far.

This would annihilate Madden had they gone with a more realistic approach to the build of the players. I'm getting it regardless to look for something new though.

It actually changes broken tackles as well, and has most likely if implemented properly changes how the AI will interact in coverage. This should make it pretty aware of everything moving.

This game honestly looks awesome. If it did have the NFL license, it would outsell Madden in a heart beat. Still getting it though!

Okay, upon watching those videos, I'll admit that the animation is incredibly fluid and "lifelike". I'm not crazy on the graphics, but hey, that won't bother me too much. I'll most likely give it a rent, as I'm a sucker for football. I'd love for Madden to utilize animations that smooth and fluid.

One thing they did get right was putting number 52 on the front cover.

I wonder if they promoted it to be Ray Lewis? Just because it has the most realistic tackling ever in a football game.

I have seen several videos of this game and I agree, it looks awesome. I just sit back and think what could they have done if they had the NFL License. I'm going to rent it to try it out, just hope someday they can get the License for the NFL and not only EA can produce NFL Games.

I remember playing NFL Gameday and I enjoyed that game very much. I never played Madden until Madden 2005 when Gameday was no more. I just wish Backbreaker could have at least set up a deal with the CFL at least to show what they could do with real teams and players.

New videos on passing and running on IGN.com
The passing has completely different controls then Madden, but looks great and could get some time to get used to. The running game looks unbelievably fluid and lifelike.

I love what they've done with this game with ONE HUGE exception that may destroy the game. The camera may kill this game. IGN.COM is already reporting you can't get perspective when you're running especially and we already know its tough to see everybody on the field IN MADDEN already where the players are much smaller.

backbreaker made the players bigger and tightened the camera and u have a recipie for failure. but i hope it does crush madden. well see next week.

LOVING the demo, Ive never had so much fun playing a football sim before. It's tricky to pickup and play, especially running which feels incredibly haphazard and panicky, but the overall feel is very close to a real game atmosphere.

Well, after playing the demo. It's fun, yeah. However, I have some issues with it. First, the play art when you're on the field on defense is too cluttered and hard to read. It doesn't help that the playbook is tiny and difficult to see assignments on, so you can't really go from there to remember if you're supposed to blitz, or cover someone man to man. Zones are about the only things easy to see. Switching players on defense is a chore. Madden's is seamless, hit a button, change players. I do not like BB's cut away to the player, ruins the flow of the game, and makes it more difficult. Add that to the camera, and it's much more difficult, and not in the fun, good way. I'll rent the full version and see what I think of the final version, though.

Ok, starting to see/hear some major issues with the game. Lack of field vision, too many INTs, lack of replay, horrendous penalties, and other small things like inability to view stats mid game etc

Fun game, but with issues. One, replays, there is only one camera on the instant replay and its only the player you are. Second, the penalties are terrible, I got 4 flags in a row while the other team was punting, and I was the kick returner. Lastly the sacks and ints come waaaaay to easy in this game. BTW, I think they are working on a patch for some of the simple stuff. Its still a great game for football fanatics, and with the very customizable team creator, you could be creating the NFL teams easy, but it will take some time. Overall I'll give it a 8/10.

I played around with the demo for a bit. It was fun but nothing special. I'm going to give it a pass.

That's not what I heard. I read that the Backbreaker people put a memory thing where if u try to change a players name to a NFL Player it won't let you, and it's that way because of legal issues or something. Like If try to put in "Ray Lewis" it denies you but if you put "R. Lewis" you would be fine. Just really wish it had gotten at least the CFL license to begin with so we could see what they can do with real players and stadiums.

No, you can create players like Ray Lewis, but it wont let you play online with that name. You can use those in exhibition or any of the other modes besides online play.

Oh ok, I didn't know it was just for online play. Has anyone rented or bought Back Breaker after it came out in stores? I'm still questionable about it, it looks good but just without the NFL License it just won't seem like Football.
