Deal With The Devil

My wife (whom I love very much) happens to be from Rhode Island and is huge Patriots fan. Trust me when I say I have spent the last four years of our marriage trying to convert her and it is just not happening. When my son was born three years ago we constantly argued about which team we would raise him up with. As hard as it was, I sold out my Orioles. We made the agreement that she could raise him as a Red Sox fan if I could raise him as a Ravens fan. Sorry Os, I love you but conssesions had to be made and I love the Ravens more. So far she has kept her end of the bargain, however, her New England trash talking parents don't. They think its funny to buy him Patriots gear and I swear they do it just to irritate me. Then they get ticked off when I throw it in the garbage as soon as he gets it. I don't understand why everyone gets mad when I forewarned them if I saw any of that crap it was going in the dumpster. Anybody else in a similar situation or have any suggestions?

Return it and tell them "Sorry, Goodwill wouldn't take it"

It sounds like its just out of good fun, dont let them get to you. Just remember Ray Rice's run against them in the playoffs. If it makes you feel better, I would have sold the Orioles out to get him to like the Ravens too.

Buy some Ravens crests so that everytime they send you stuff just glue one of the crests right over the Patriot logo, and happily send it back.

Let me preface this by saying when I got married there were no Ravens--I married a Steeler fan and I was a Redskins fan. My then boyfriend wooed me with 2 preseason football tickets to see the Redskins at RFK, by the time the games came around we were engaged! He is from Western MD, grew up a Steelers fan and of all things an Orioles fan.
We really got into the Stallions and the last summer they were here I was pregnant and had a 3yo but we were going to get seasons tickets for the family, but it was 1995 and we got the Ravens.
I held out for 2 years and he was one of THOSE people at Memorial Stadium in Steeler gear, but in 1998 I got drug to the Vikes game and was sold from the first JLew run back for a TD. We stopped at the ticket office for PSL forms and had them filled out and sent that Monday.
I boxed up all the Redskins stuff and the Steelers stuff and we became Ravens fans. My youngest grew up rooting for the "Raisins" and can smack talk with the best of them he will be 15 at the beginning of this season. My husband figured he was cured of his Steeler fanness when he went to 3 Rivers in a purple Woodson lol. I'd be divorced if he were still a Steelers fan.
My cousin married a Steeler fan and they live in Pittsburgh and I buy her 3 sons Ravens stuff all the time, so does her sister and the kids are not allowed to wear the yellow and black in MD. Easter was a ton of fun this past year with the Ben stuff.
I would say don't let them see you annoyed by the stuff and quietly donate it to charity.
What is even funnier I still have the Redskin and Steeler ornaments from our first Christmas tree in 1991, and the Steeler ones get hung upside down or with the Ravens ones on top.

Smart move trading the Orioles for the Ravens, with the current state the O's are in, you and your son got the better end of the deal.
