Ravens Lbs

With kindle being our first pick in the draft, he has the potential to start. Ravens have come out and said that right now he will back up JJ, but if he can show them something before the start of the season, they will slide JJ to ilb next to ray and kindle will start opposite suggs. with that being said here's how our lbs look this year... suggs lewis johnson kindle (with ngata and cody being on the line i dont see how our defense isnt its elite self again). stikll say we could use another cb though

I don't know if JJ will move to ILB. He played DE in college doesn't seem like a very good transition.

I see Kindle being sent in to blitz on passing downs as well as playing some special teams until JJ's contract runs out and he becomes a starter.

He's got a lot of work to do in terms of becoming a true outside linebacker.

I see J.J. moving inside in certain situations but not permanently. The team has a prototypical "thumper" in Ellerbe who also has the athleticism to become a complete ILB. He needs to see the field to grow as a player.

i think JJ should play DE
He'd have to bulk to be a 3-4 DE which wouldn't be a good move because there are already 4 players on the roster capable of playing the position.

Wasn't JJ a DE before, and he lost weight to be a more effective OLB?
JJ played DE/DT at alabama and he weighed around 285..he lost a lot of weight through out his career at baltimore to get to 265..in 2005 he saw some time at ilb..and he actually ended up playing a lot because that was the year ray lewis got hurt..n then in 2007 he took over the starting spot at olb opposite of suggs..i think JJ can still play any lb position..and i don't see any point of him bulking up to play 3-4 DE..esp bc we already have krueger working on that right now..it would make sense for JJ to slide over in certain situations (until ellerbe develops)

I like antwan barnes too..i hope he doesn't get caught in everyones shawdow..he is only 25 and i think he has what it takes to grow into a great olb

JJ would only be moved inside in our nickel defense. They might even use him at DT in our dime, so we have 3 pass rushers in a 3 point in those instances if they dont want Pryce on the field. Suggs-Ngata-JJ-Kindle. Our base defense is going to be the exact same as last year, just when we're playing run heavy teams Cody will spell Gregg. The only thing that changes is our sub packages for pass rushing.

We're deep at WR, TE, DL and S.

Forget what you think of players, depth is multiple bodies at a position capable of contributing and the Ravens have a number of positions like that.

Jason phillips he will do good if he has the chance to play with fellow Mountain West player Paul Krugger. Krugger will do good this year because i think he will have more playing time. If Brandon Aybejyo is hurting me got McClain or ellerbe even Barnes to help out.

Don't forget about Prescott Brugress, who is a really good special teams player and a pretty good young LB in his own right. The Ravens have a lot of young depth at the LB position.

It's funny how last year this time, all you heard about was T-Good's potential and how he will be so good that we wouldn't miss Bart one bit. Now this year you barely even hear about T Good.

Barnes, McClain, Burgress, Gooden, Ellerbe, Phillps, Kindle, that's a lot of young depth. Somebody might not make it this year.

One of my favorite quotes from a coach.

"Hey kid, your potential is going to get me fired."

Let's not forget that with potentially 4 TE's vying for a roster spot, Edgar Jones, our biggest and most versatile OLB/ILB/DE/DT will be back on defense. Jason Phillips or Burgess will be odd man out.

Yeah, I am interested to see what Phillips can do this season, assuming he can stay healthy.

to early to know who will make the team but this competition that is brewing should make for a intersting training camp. i see cody out performing people expectations only because i feel like he has his mind set to be a force in the league. i know right now hes just a run stopper but really we dont need to him to drop into coverage if he is running over o-linemen.

I think we have all seen over the years that there is a method to everything the Ravens do. They rarely just do things for the sake of doing them(Hell look at the decision to keep Suggs over AD). I think Ozzie and company knew they would focus on the TE depth this offseason(not saying they planned on drafting 2) and that's why E. Jones was informed that he'd see a lot more time as a back FB/HB type of player. I think the only way he moves back to the defensive side of the ball is in emergency situations, like Suggs going down in the playoff a couple years back.

Also i wouldn't be so sure on Burgess being the odd man out. One thing we know about Harbs, is he loves guys that can do more then just one thing, and mainly that speaks to special teams.

Burgess is one of our top special teams performers, and he can also play well on defense. Now we haven't really seen much of him on defense in the regular season, but if anyone can remember some of the preseason games over the last 2 seasons, he's done well. So the question becomes, do we value a guy that can come in and rush the QB in a pass situation, and possible total 1-2 sacks all season and is decent on ST over a guy that will get you 2-3 special teams stops a game and is pretty good on defense? That is what camp and preseason will be for imo.

The numbers done look promising for him, and the fact that we were actually willing to trade him last season says alot as well. However the fact that we brought him back speak to the value that he brings to the team.

I'm looking at guys like Antwan Barnes, Jameel McClain, as possibly the bubble guys. As tough as it might sound, because we all have high expectations for those guys, but the addition of Kindle makes it possible imo.

Both Barnes and McClain are really highly regarded for thier pass rushing abilities, well that is what Kindle is known for and what he was brought in for.

Burgess and Phillps are both those sideline to sideline type guys that you like to play inside or the middle depending on the defensive alignment.

I'm not saying who will or who won't make it, but i know it should be exciting this year in camp and preseason.

For years we've heard about the aging Baltimore defense, we'll we have the youth, with guys like Ngata, Cody, Kurger, Kindle, Ellerbe, Burgess, McClain, Phillps, Gooden,Barnes, Zibby, Nakurma, Landry, Webb, and others. Now it's just finding a way to fully utilize all of their talents.

Rasta, i know how much you dislike Mattison, but how he handles the young talent on this team is where he will either earn his pay, and be viewed as the next great Ravens DC, or he'll find himself out of a job.

I love the blend of youth and talent on this defense right now, and even though i don't think the D played as poor as many think last year, what happened last year is not acceptable. The idea is to improve each year, and we where not #1 so we still have a lot to improve on.

I think it'll be fun to watch everything come together this year.
