Can you say "biggest" draft bust ever?

Oakland fans must be pretty annoyed with their front office (Al Davis) for drafting that big waste of space; and Al must regret throwing $30 million at him, for nothing. He has done absolutely nothing for his team or the NFL, and should never put on a set of shoulder pads again.

If you can't tell, I'm not a fan of the guy.

They just need to cut him. Al Davis has too much pride to do so.

"I realized when I hired you that you were young and inexperienced and that there would be a learning process for you. I realize that you did not want to draft JaMarcus Russell. He is a great player, get over it." - Al Davis.

JaMarcus Russell is one of the few non-Ravens that frustrates me beyond belief. I was just ranting about Russell and his blatant disrespect for the game by not even putting in the effort needed to live up to his hype. I mean, it'd be one thing if he was a draft bust because he lacked the ability despite how hard he tried -- it's another thing for him to not even really try at all.

"Last to arrive, first to leave" is the one comment I keep reading about Russell's work ethic. It pisses me off that, with all of his (assumed) promise in college and with a paycheck of his size, he's essentially doing nothing but sitting on his butt and eating potato chips. Sure, there'd be others who would do the same in his position...but if I had even an ounce of the talent and promise that he showed at one time, I would take full advantage of it and try to justify my pay.

It's amazing how talented Russell is but he threw it all to the curb (no pun intended). Watch his throws... perfect spiral, perfect release, quick on the draw, his footwork is stellar, he can throw the ball 50 hards without even stepping in to the throw... his abilities are next to none. Just he never honed them, he just gave up.

One of the biggest wastes of talent in the NFL.

Easily the biggest bust in NFL history. I think Leaf makes a pretty good case also, but Russell edges him out with a last second FG to earn the honor.
The "move JaMarcus to right tackle" jokes are coming fast and furious now. If Russell puts on about 20 more lbs., he could play five-technique end in Oakland's new 3-4 sets.]
Thats my solution lol. That is big for a non-lineman

JaMarcus isn't a naturally accruate QB but a guy with his physical tools should be performing better. Like someone else said, the man doesn't have to step into a throw but can complete(or at least get the ball downfield) with more velocity than most QB zoning in. I shudder to think how far he could throw the ball if he put everything he had into it. But alas, his NFL career will soon be over and I have a feeling he won't care too much.

His waste of talent aside, the fact he's financially set for life because of a few quality seasons at LSU is the most sickening part of the deal.

During the third day of the draft (I'm pretty sure I was watching NFLN), someone remembered the year Russell was drafted and Mike Mayock said on live TV that it was a mistake because of Russell's lack of work ethic and how Mayock got torn to shreds by people in the Russell camp. Little did any of us know how right he would be.

I think Russell should be cut. I don't think even the presence of Jason Campbell will be enough to motivate him. What a waste....what an absolute waste.

Jamarcus Russell was probably the most naturally gifted Quarterback to ever play, yet he was unwilling to put in any form of work to even save his own career.

I remember Mayock saying that and the ensuing reaction. If I'm Mayock I'm personally laughing in the face of every Russell camper that tried to tell me I was wrong.

Jamarcus sickens, frustrates and enfuriates me even though I don't give a rats rump about him. That is some achievement.

He's a good example of what's wrong with the current rookie salary structure. Total waste and it hurts the entire organization.

yet w/in 5 years after he's released... I'm sure we'll see him working the McDonald's drive through.... if he's not fired for not wanting to go to work

JaMarcus better start learning the phrase: "Would you like fries with that?"

I disagree. He made a lot of big plays at LSU and his arm is probably one of the strongest in league history but throwing to the likes of Dwayne Bowe, Early Doucet and Craig Davis was probably what made him look better than he was.

He's probably been sitting at home (because we all know he doesn't have the work ethic to continue any sort of exercise or conditioning during the off season), in his robe, watching Lifetime while eating ice cream straight out of the carton. Oh yeah, while trying to fight back the tears, because obviously the Raiders are moving on without him. Oh well, at least the Raiders have a decent, competent quarterback who wants to play.

It's about time Russell gets released. This is the best time to do it because in an uncapped year, there are no penalties for releasing a player. If we still had a cap, the Raiders would have been forced to keep him because of a huge cap hit. Jason Campbell will lead the Raiders to at least 6-10 or 7-9, I can see that happening this year, and the Patriots who thought they would be getting a high top 10 pick from Oakland this year will be getting something like 15-17 in 2011.

Plus I saw on PFT that the Raiders can save 6 Million by cutting him this year, Jason Campbell I wish you good luck.

Adam Schefter made the comment about an hour ago via twitter that Russell hasnt been released and is expected to report to this weekend mini camp to competed.
Yup. Looks like they are giving him another chance to be the starter. The Raiders FO is exactly how its not done, I never want to see people complaining about our FO when there are others like this around!

They reported that on PTI to.

The thing that gets me about him showing up is if he gets hurt then the Raiders are required to pay him. If I were the overweight, over paid, over career player he is then I might even consider faking injury!

Yea I honestly wouldn't put it past him! I think they were saying he gets 9 million if he gets hurt (in guaranteed money). That last statement I don't know if thats the exact number and I don't feel like looking it up, but feel free to correct it as I may be wrong :).

He sure doesn't but I say the FO is at fault more, they just don't want to admit they were wrong for taking him as the #1 pick.
