Merged - Direct TV NFL Package Threads

18 posts in this topic

I've bought the NFL package for geez I think it's five years now. I have to get the superfan because I want the HD, but all I care about are the Ravens games in HD and I'll watch AFC North games as well. Every year the team gets better and better because of the best brass in the biz, but man it annoys me every year that I'm paying for everything (red zone, every nfl game known to mankind, fantasy numbers, nfl short) when all I want is Ravens games in HD. Plus because our Ravens are so brilliant, half the games are televised on regular free tv. So I'm really paying for about 8-10 games when the rest are televised, just seems stupid as big of a fan that I am. Why aren't they giving me preseason games too that irks me as well. Plus I'd love to see a pre and post game show.

Are there any other options for me if I wanted to watch our Ravens live if I decided to pass on this package this year? THX.

As an out-of-state and out-of-market fan, you're a bit out of luck due to the NFL's tricky contracts with their broadcast partners. Though the NFL offers a premium online streaming service, that is available only to fans outside of North America.

If you were living in or around Maryland (I live in Delaware), you'd have some luck with a good ol'-fashioned antenna. But, because you're in California, I feel for you. I'm fortunate to get all the HD broadcasts since the digital over-the-air transition in early 2009. Other than that, your only other (legal) option is DirecTV, especially if you want true HD quality.

However, there have been rumors for years that the NFL would pursue other television packages for out-of-market fans besides DirecTV. Unfortunately, the multi-billion dollar extension the two sides just inked last year likely prevents that from happening. Though DirecTV does not have perpetual exclusive rights to out-of-market broadcasts in the U.S., the deal they have is tricky.

I have the same problem and I live in Maryland! I'm always dogging the market setup. Only a small part of Maryland gets EVERY single Ravens game. The part of Marland I live only gets about 2/3s of the games. So I am forced to buy the Directv Sunday Ticket w/ Superfan as well (plus I love fantasy football). I've given up on the bunny ears.

But there is no other option. I really wish they would allow you to purchase a by game package. But that'll never happen. Because if people had the option of buying the total package or nothing at all. They're buying the total package. Too much money to be lost if they change it up.

SPORTS BAR!
That's what I'd do too, in this particular situation.

Granted, it gets to be a bit expensive to buy drinks at the bar and get as hammered as you'd get at home, but it's not a bad alternative. The only downside is the noise, having to deal with opposing teams' fans, and the quality of food if you get a meal. Also, some sports bars have a cover charge, so you're paying that on top of whatever you're ordering inside. If you're going to a sports bar every week, depending on how much you spend weekly, you could actually end up paying less for the DirecTV package.

crap. thanks. what about justin tv?
It won't be in HD. Plus discussing illegal streams is forbidden on this forum.

Side Story: The other day I was away and couldn't catch the Caps hockey game. I went on to Justin.tv and watched the game, I thought I could get a better feed and when I tried another feed I got infected with that stupid "Fake Windows Security Center" virus. Luckily it was on my fiancee's work computer.

I am now an expert on removing the "Fake Windows Security Center" virus if anybody has issues with this. It's a tricky guy.

yeah RavensReign I have the same problem in SD and sports bar is definitely the answer. There are a number of Ravens fans around here that do the same as well. Plus its entertaining to watch Charger fans whine every time they lose

This is not a joke. Call DirecTV and tell them that you have to drop Sunday Ticket because it's just too expensive for the features that you want and use. They'll offer you up to $180 off this year to keep you as a customer.

Did you just do this out of the blue? Did you do this before they've charged you for it? In my account it says I have the Sunday Ticket but I haven't been billed for the 2010 season yet.

I would love to get $180 off. That's cover Superfan.

I heard about it on another message board and was planning to cancel it anyway. It really IS too expensive for someone who goes to all of the home games anyway. I decided to give it a try, figuring I'd just cancel if they didn't give me the discount. They were real nice about it. You have to do it before August, I think. The sooner the better since Sunday Ticket automatically renews. This year SuperFan isn't separate; it's all bundled into the one rate of 6 payments of $49.99. What they do is credit you $20.00 each month. It's only good for this year, but I've heard of people who do this every year.

I'll give it a try. What's the worse that can happen. They cancel and I just re-buy.

Got my annual $300 bill, plus $50 for Sunday ticket to go (PC & Phone). I called to cancel, they dropped it to $180. Yea!

I'm in Cali so this is the only way I can watch our boys. I'll be there every step of the way.

Go Ravens!

Dammit I keep forgetting to cancel to get the lower price. Knowing my luck, I'll call and they'll just cancel it because too many people have abused the system already.

I did get a notice from Directv today saying that the overall price has decreased $20 dollars and regular Sunday Ticket will include HD. And also the Superfan is now 9.99 for 5 months.

Gotta keep the superfan. Especially now that I'm rocking an EVO phone. Can watch additional games on that and it will be great for when I'm away from home.

I have to disagree to those who said the NFL Sunday Ticket isn't worth the $$$. If your an out-of-market fan who loves the Ravens as I do it's worth every penny to be able to watch them every week. Being able to watch these games on the computer or mobile phone makes this even better than before if your not able to get home because of work or whatever the case, and add-on the Red Zone channel(best thing since sliced bread by the way) and the fantasy football perks the ticket has and it's a must have if your not in the local market. You would think that they would come out with individual team packages by now and I completely understand those types of complaints because it would only make sense, but until they do I will find a way to afford the ticket each year.
