Mock Draft Review - Raven's Pick

175 posts in this topic

How is DB our weakness? true injuries are a factor, but really, if everyone was healthy, then it would be BEAST. well, the whole defense would be. But i think that we should get suggs back.

Rolle and McCalister are both over 30 and as we saw we have no depth. It cant hurt to bring in someone that add depth immediatly and take over for Rolle in a season or two.

O-LINE! Its the most important thing to a offense..good protection anyone can look good at QB..I think boller could shine if he ever had time to drop back and scan the field before getting rocked. Troy is right there ready to go as well..grab a QB in the 4th there are some decent QBs who we could grab late. Take a CB in the 2nd.

It would be nice to trade down and pick up some more picks as well.

one must remember that yes the O-Line is a vital/key aspect to an offense's success but we have young, talented players that have really shown growth and overall development this past season (gaither, Grubbs, Yanda exc....) so if we Keep drafting young lineman, we shield ourselves from letting the players that are already there, and already Developing well...from getting into that Groove and what not....if we keep drafting/going after that O-Line year after year.....that overall comfort level will never really be reached to its maxium potential and there will be mistakes here and there, in which we cannot afford

i agree..i think grubbs was awesome...gaither and yanda have great upside..but the rest of the guys are eh..they can provide decent depth i think a guy like ryan claddy would be perfect. if we do go cb or qb first round i think we need to get a center later on..flynn is on his last leg and chester should is a better guard.

I'd be happy with Brian Brohm. He makes Troy Smith look like a milk dud.

Free "Insider" Mock Draft

[/quote

First off Brohm wasn't even the best QB in his own state................Woodson won't be available, here's a big board I like:

January 18, 2008

Frank Coyle, draftinsiders.com

Special to Rivals.com College Football

The NFL Draft order isn't completely set, but many of the underclassmen who intended declare for the draft have done so at this point.

It's never too early to take a look at how the draft might shake out if it were held tomorrow.

Rivals.com asked its NFL Draft partner - Frank Coyle of draftinsiders.com - to put together a first-round mock draft with comments.

Enjoy.

1. Miami (1-15)

The Pick: Matt Ryan, QB, Boston College

The buzz: The Dolphins begin the Parcells era with a 'winner' at the game's most important position.

2. St. Louis (3-13)

The Pick: Glenn Dorsey, DT, LSU

The buzz: Dorsey is a dominant inside force that is much needed along the Rams front four.

x - 3. Atlanta (4-12)

The Pick: Darren McFadden, RB, Arkansas*

The buzz: The Falcons must rebuild, especially at QB, but McFadden would be too good to pass on here.

x - 4. Oakland (4-12)

The Pick: Chris Long, DE, Virginia

The buzz: Al Davis might continue the old Raider lineage with this selection.

x - 5. Kansas City (4-12)

The Pick: Brian Brohm, QB, Louisville

The buzz: The Chiefs are a total offensive disaster this season, and the quarterback spot is their highest priority.

6. N.Y. Jets (4-12)

The Pick: Kenny Phillips, FS, Miami*

The buzz: The Patriots are looking for another impact defender in their changing secondary.

8. Baltimore (5-11)

The buzz: The Ravens want one of the top two quarterbacks, but may have to draft into other deep areas of this class.

9. Cincinnati (7-9)

The Pick: Vernon Gholston, DE, Ohio State*

The buzz: The Bengals defense gives up too many big plays and needs a force off the edge.

10. New Orleans (7-9)

The Pick: Reggie Smith, CB, Oklahoma*

The buzz: The Saints defense gets smoked weekly, and Smith is one of the elite cornerbacks.

11. Buffalo (7-9)

The Pick: Sedrick Ellis, DT, USC

The buzz: The Bills wants more playmakers, especially on the inside.

12. Denver (7-9)

The Pick: Sam Baker, OT, Southern Cal

The buzz: The Packers will look to address their tackle spot. Both starters will be older than 30 next season.

y - 30. Dallas (13-3)

The Pick: Early Doucet, WR, LSU

The buzz: The 49ers offense needs to upgrade their weak receiving corps if Alex Smith is too ever to realize his pro potential.

y - 32. New England (16-0)

The Pick: no pick

The Buzz: Pick forfeited.

x - Coin flip at NFL Combine in February will decide exact order

y - Final position will be determined by playoffs

* - Underclassman

Now the Jets picking another O lineman after Ferguson from VA makes no sense to unless he's to be switched to RT or Guard.......the 8/9 picks most think can go either way.....the Miami DE weighs 280...............looks like a GOOD fit for a 4-3 with depth! Talib from Kansas or Flowers from VA Tech better pro prospect than Jenkins because of supposed off the field issues? Oh well! there's always that wonderlic test to seperate them........Trade w/ NE switch spots get a #2 also.................just like 01 with Boller..............get one of those Lineman and my new Hero from Delaware Flacco QB(watch East-West Shrine Game today)..............and last year by the way Yanda was the "Lookout" tackle, when they blew past he yelled "Lookout"

I say we wait a couple of rounds before selecting a QB.

I think Chad Henne out of Michigan may still be available around the 4th or 5th round.

He might be worth considering if we don't nab one in the 1st round. We have too many

other needs for our 1st two picks.

well in all aspects of the equation....its all about what how much of a deficit is currently at a particular position....and then look at each and every draft prospect, each being reasonable because we all know that we all cant get our top draft choices all the time..and we must have the realiable back up choices IF our number draft choice is taken, which is very much the case in the NFL draft (at least as far as i know).....so all in all its like a waiting process for the us fans...but you can bet for dang sure that Ozzie and his staff have their top choices/aspects in order/in-line. and go from that point on.

Henne isnt pro QB material. If hes inconsistent in college, how do you think the NFL will be with him. He cant throw a deep ball either.. he throws it way too high.

college is many aspects, is different from the professional league, and therefore some players Might Play not as expected or bad in college, resulting in poor draft order and his draft rankings and overall value (on paper) falling. but then he get to the pro's and gets taught the right things to do and at what time WITH the added mentorship of other players that know the system and know it well....resulting in GReat play from the individual....just takes the right people and the right circumstances is all

I have to agree. I liked what I saw of Mallet more than what I saw of Henne. Mallet needs some serious polishing but he just seems to have more potential. Of course he defected back to Arkansas (I blame Petrino, the rat).

Happy birthday, btw.

At the end of Mike Jenkins' interview, there are a few highlights from game against Auburn, Louisville, West Virginia, and Cincinnati.

Only if NE takes him with the number 7 pick.

and even still that is not a Dead certain thing to happen because teams negotiate trades with other team in order to get higher in the draft

brohm is good but has injury problems..i dont want to see qb in the first round again..not this year.

Me neither. I dont want to risk bringing in a first round QB and Troy Smith turns out to be the guy of the future.

yeah i still think o-line would be great if someone left is worthy of the 8 pick. if not if there is a cb worth it go that way. if one of the longs fall that far that would be great!

We need someone in Baltimore who can lead this team back to the playoffs. I like Troy Smith to start for the Ravens. With the number 8 pick in the 2008 NFL Draft, i would like to see the Ravens draft a wide receiver, or tackle.

Unless they think Barnes is ready to replace Suggs (contract ends this year and probably get a high dollar contract out just like AD) I think get the best outside LB in the draft and start getting some quality young blood in the Linebacking core. Dan Connor would be my linebacker pick, seems to be much more complete and much more versatile than Barnes. I think Barnes is a great pass rusher but I think adding depth and super talent at LB is BIG.

The Ryan Clady pick would not be a bad pick if Ogden leaves, but as 1st rounder I want someone who will make a difference on are win- loss ratio. Only a good pick if Ogden leaves.

CB is definitely a need, We need a slot guy to develope into a future starter. I was pretty high on the junior Antoine Cason out of Arizonia, but he decided to go back for his senior year.(hopefully we won't have a high enough pick to get him next year.) Other than him I'm not sure who to look at, New England will probably grab the top CB off the board anyway.

QB- Go Troy WR- Like all 4, give the young guys time, they have talent.

We should get a DB or a lineman with our first pick. Second pick should be a QB, maybe Flacco if he is still available. We should really concentrate on free agency though and only use the draft picks for necessities that cannot come through making trades.

The Baltimore Ravens select Aqib Talib, cornerback, University of Kansas. This guy is a beast: He is fast (4.4-4.5 speed), has great hands, can play offense (8 catches, 4 for touchdowns), has great size (6-1, 193), and has great leaping ability... He reminds me of Antonio Cromartie, but with more polished coverage skills

Perfect fit in my eyes. We need to address our aging defense in this draft and our young but incomplete offense in the Free agent market.

I think part of the reason they didnt keep AD was because they knew that Suggs deal was almost up. I expect him to be back.

I still like the strategy of taking the best available athlete early in the draft. I hope Harbaugh can deliver on his philosophy that the game is won in the trenches.
