Mock Draft Review - Raven's Pick

Yeah, we saw him play this year. He sucks.

Now with Parcells, I wouldn't be surprised if they go with Matt Ryan. But they have so many needs. If they want the best player in the draft, they's have to go with Dorsey or Long.

He was also a rookie. Look at the way some of these hall of fame quarterbacks started their careers in the NFL. A lot of them "lead" their teams to 1-15, 2-16 their rookie years. I'd give the guy another year.

Ok, well try this on for size, he's about to turn 27 or 28. Which means by the time he develops into a guy that can lead them to the promise land and by the time they get all the right pieces in play to make that run he is going to be hovering around 30, he may already be past it. If they keep Beck on, their window- before they have to develop a new QB to replace him, is very small. If they draft another guy that window expands at least an extra seven years, more then they would have with Beck.

I took that last part out. I really couldnt remember any of the names i saw on ESPN, so i just decided to avoid debate about it and remove it. And yea, his age is a problem, and i know that. But if they didnt expect him to turn into a decent or even better quarterback, why did they draft him?

Beck needed to go to team that could win right away. And I think the Dolphins, thought they were in a position to win right away because when they started the season the roster looked decent enough to make a run at things. QB's who were horrible the first year of their career and is now an HOFer, the only guy that comes to mind is Peyton Manning.

I may be all wrong. The mock drafts could be right but I just think if they are going to build a solid team, they need to build it around their franchise players. In my opinion, they dont have a franchise QB of the future because the guy they drafted last year is so old.

I just remebered a player.

If we don't pick a DB in the 1st we could snag Reggie Smith in the 2nd who plays CB and S.

IMO we need to start from the line before we grab position playres, so im all for taking Jake Long. Ogden's great years are well behind him so its time to move on.

lets let our line develop. we have adam terry for LT, solid, and behind him we have rising talent Gaither. For LG, we have Jason Brown, one of the better guards in the NFL, unreplacable. for center, we have chris chester, well improved, and going to be solid in the NFL. for RG, Ben grubbs, no question, solid, and we have marshal Yanda for RT. he needs to develop, but hestill looked solid in his time last season.

Unless by miracle, Long will not make it to the 8th spot.

It all depends on how the first 3 picks play out.

Oakland and maybe even New York might grab him, but I still have my hopes up :P

They each could go after McFadden, New York could go defensive line and so could Oakland. Warren Sapp retired. Kansas City and ATL, could each go QB, if Miami doesnt go QB. New England isnt going to take him. If he falls past St. Louis, he may be as good as got by us.

im most worried about Oakland because their offense have been horrible for a long while like ours, and the fact that Lane Kiffin is an offensive minded coach might have a strong influence.

That's why, I think, if McFadden is still on the board Oakland will take him. At that point, I think the Jets will go defense because they went offensive line twice in the first round of the 2006 draft. Oakland had to pass up on a big play guy in Calvin Johnson, last year because of their QB concerns. They are not going to do it again. Dont forget that Al Davis is really the one pulling all the strings over there.

Long doesn't get past the Chiefs.

It isnt absolute that the Chiefs are going to take an OL. They may decide to go QB and they may go DL because I believe Jared Allen is now an unrestricted FA. Dont know what the Cheifs cap space is looking like, so I wont speculate but its a possibility. I would not be overly shocked if he fell to us.

We dont need Jake Long. Theres also Ryan Clady out of Boise State who is projected to go early in the draft. Clady is gigantic with an enormous wingspan, so if long goes, theres still clady.

And i dont think Kansas City will go QB. Brodie Croyle didnt look half bad when he played. Hes got one hell of an arm.

Personally, drafting a QB would be a mistake (in the 1st Round at least) and I think we MUST address DB or WR in the 1st Round.. I like Aqib Talib from Kansas (6'1.5" 200 lbs, 4.5 speed) he has great athleticism and coverage skills and can help out in the return game if need be (although I still like Figurs in that role). Our secondary has been our Achilles' Heel as of late and C-Mac and Rolle aren't getting any younger and Pittman has yet to live up to his 3rd Round status (Martin and Prude are still unknowns at this point)

Martin sucks. Prude is unknown.

I can agree with a DB. But we must address WR? We have a lot of young talent that we just drafted. Plus we have Clayton, who's ready to be a standout, we just need somebody that can throw the ball deep and accurate. In both of Troy's games, he was impressive, but he still didn't make a completion past 20 yards.

He's also a rookie and he did, he had 70 yard TD pass to Mason vs Seattle. That to me would be something that changes with time. I dont think we need an explosive QB just someone to manage the game. I would rather have him settle for short passes, if they are there, then to force the ball down field when its not there, like some other QB's we've seen in Baltimore.

My first pick would be either a DB or if you could find another DE/LB like Suggs. DB is where I think our biggest week spot is. As for QB remember the QB we had for the majority of our Superbowl year, he was not a superstar just did not loose games. our defense slipped this year, Period. Still one of the greatest against the run but defending the pass we are slipping. Injuries exposed and magnified this problem, exposed people who just were not ready to play.

How is DB our weakness? true injuries are a factor, but really, if everyone was healthy, then it would be BEAST. well, the whole defense would be. But i think that we should get suggs back.

well i havnt heard about rolles shoulder or mcalisters knee could both be serious that could be re agrivated i perosnally dont want to ever see our back up CB's play again after this season so draft Talib would definatley help plus our Corners are gettin old.
