The only problem with that is if Matt Ryan is the guy there will be no real competion. There is no way they are going to pay a guy 20 some million dollars in bonuses and have him ride the bench. He might not be handed the starting job his rookie year but eventually it will be HANDED to him. Ironically, thats the thing you've been argueing we shouldnt do to Troy Smith. And I agree. But that doesnt mean we need to bring in another unproven player and hand him the job. What has he proven that the guys on our roster havent already proven?

Why not? Russell was a Number one Pick overall and He sat out His rookie season. Brady Quinn is labled as the future of the Browns but But He's still riding the pine.

Its dumb IMO that a rookie can come in and demnad so much money but If the guy turns out to be a P. Manning type player, would Ravens fans be mad that we payed him X amount of money to be sitting on the sidelines learning? Then He comes in later and is our Franchise guy. People can argue all day long on which QB's will be a bust or a good QB, but truth is some QB's do well in the NFL when there not projected to be, and some guys do terrable when there projected to be good.

1st of all Troy didn't start many games and the reason he was not starting is because of McNair and because Boller has been there alot longer and new the system better. The reason Troy started is because Boller performed so poorly. No one knows what Troy can do. The one thing we know about Troy is that he could lead the team down field, he is athletic and has potential to improve alot. What do we know about a rookie that has never stepped on the field and has the potential to destory our salary cap? NOTHING. Stats don't translate into NFL success. I'm not against drafting a rookie but don't knock Troy when he hasn't even had a chance to show what he can do.

Coaches know how a player is performing, thats why teams Pratice 3 and 4 days a week,If Troy Smith is not showing the coaches that He can be a starter then They wont start him. Troy Smith started because Kyle Boller had a concussion.

Just because fans dont see how well He's playing dont mean He hasnt had the "chance" to show what He can do.

I think you have this all completely wrong. Brian Brohm deserves a lot of credit for playing on an awful team. He had little protection, absolutely no running game, a defense that couldn't stop anyone and a head coach who was a lemon. Andre Woodson had one of the worst performances in the year against Mississippi State that can't be overlooked, and seemed lazy near the second half of the season. And a lot of people have Joe Flacco from Delaware and Chad Henne over Colt Brennan even before the Sugar Bowl started. All in all, I'd want Brian Brohm who has a good arm and was a strong decision-maker and also knows what it's like to carry a team on his back.

The one thing I still agree with, as time has passed, is that the guy with the greatest love for the game, the greatest enthusiasm, the best skills, and the best mind for the game is the guy we should draft in this year's draft.

After much thought, that would be either Flacco or Henne for me, in the 2nd round. I haven't given much of a chance to Brohm because of the torn ACL...he might be a great prospect, but do WE want to take that chance???

Regardless of the draft I'll bet Troy Smith starts next season, and when he does, there may be no looking back!!!

I don't know about you but I'd be pissed if I were a verteran on this team working my behind off and some rookie came in fresh out of college and hasn't even contributed anything but promises and gets more than I do. How would you feel if that happened to you on your job? The salaries rookies get is ridiculous. Regardless of how good they may appear to be they are not proven. Brady Quinn sat because Derek Anderson turned out an incredible season. In order to keep Brady on the bench he has to show that last season wasn't a fluke. I hope nevermore is right. I want to see Troy succeed and prove his doubters wrong. From the time he came out in the draft almost people just wanted to forget what he did in college and that he would be nothing more than a backup in the NFL. That's why I want him to prove them wrong to shut everyone up.

Derek Anderson turned out to have a incredable season why? Because He was ahead of Brady Quinn on the Roster, The thing that was being thrown around was that because we draft a QB in the 1st round that He's gonna be the starter no matter how He performs.
