Romo Ravens

Scared Of Our Division?

43 posts in this topic

Well, Baltimore traded out of the first. This seems to be the most important news as of last night and today. But, has anyone looked any closer into the draft? I must say, that even if we are still on top, we will have some very heavy competition this year and for the years to come. In the first round alone, the Cleveland Browns selected Joe Haden. As we all now, the hype surrounding the kid is enormous. He stepped in as a true freshman from day one for UF and started as a DB. He has the potential to be a shut-down type of guy. Next, The Bengals drafted Jermaine Gresham. If he can stay healthy, he will be a premier TE in the league. His height alone makes him an instant red-zone threat. After the Browns and the Bengals, the Steelers are improving as well. They drafted Pouncey to shore up their offensive line. With all of this said, this was still only the first round. Do you think our division will be much more competitive? Will the Browns finally be legit? Will the Bengals be tough just like they are every year, or maybe even be tougher? Will the Steelers still be a force even with their troubles?

Keep in mind, there are still 6 rounds to go, which makes it even scarier. Should we be worried? I'm no way saying this stuff will happen, but each and every team in our division has made solid moves this offseason. I still know we will be first in our division, but could we be looking at the toughest division in the NFL?

We'll see just how scared we should be in 2 hours.

werd. There's no guarantee any of these players are gonna live up to their hype. I think gresham scares me the most of any of our interdivision picks. Remember what Finley did to us in the Packers game last year. Theres something to be a said for a tall physical TE who can go over the middle and outreach and outmuscle DBs for the ball. Here's hoping the injury bug stays with him, j/k.

I've been reading this board for the past few hours and I have concluded, what we did last night was genius. Remember, our biggest need going into the draft was getting a playmaking wide receiver to go along with Derrick Mason. Now look at what we basically did.

Pick #25 we picked Anquan Boldin (not a project you have to hope develops. A proven player who can ball.)

Then we get an extra 2nd round pick as well as move up in the 3rd and 4th round and also get an extra 5th round pick.

It's genius. So for those of you drama queens....just shut up. We picked Anquan Boldin last night and moved up in our 3rd and 4th picks and also got an extra 2nd and 5th. Stop complaining.

No we shouldn't be worried at all. Even with the draft how it is right now I still feel we will take the division. Now its our turn with a lot of picks to improve so it will be all good. Our division will be tough but we got it :).

Haha! No need to say jk, I know you mean it. At least I hope so.. jk, but not really. I was just thinking about this last night. Not really scared per say, but should we look forward to a lot of healthy competition from even a team like the Browns? We all know what the Bengals do to us every year and how they show up, and we know the story with the Steelers, but I was wondering if these teams would actually be tougher with the new additions. Something to think about heading into next season.

I think the Ravens can beat the Steelers and Browns. But the Bengals already owned the Ravens, and now they pick up a huge target in tight end Gresham, as if Carson Palmer needed anymore help.

I honestly expect another sweep, with the Bengals winning the division for the 2nd year in a row.

Nah, you mean how scared our rivals be in 2 hrs.

The Cody-Ngata wall could be coming soon. I hope...

Imagine how much havoc 2 NT can be to a running game. I'll rather take the wall so we can play 8 man coverage as Dline of 3 just wreck havoc in the trenches.
I love this way of looking at it and cant help but think that this is what Ozzie had planned since he traded for Boldin. We're all crying about losing our precious picks, but little did we know that the Oz was at work. I dont think unless Morgan or Gresham dropped to us that there was ever any intention of picking someone in the first round. There's loads of useable talent to be had in the 2nd and third and before that trade we only had ONE pick in those rounds. Hooray for Ozzie and Eric, good work.

thats kind of an opposite way of looking at it. With the way the NFL is turning to a pass happy league, its usually more desirable to have lockdown cover guys in the defensive backfield so you can keep more guys in the box. Good ole Rex figured that out. Good luck throwing on Revis, Cromartie, and Wilson...

I expect a 1-1 series with the Bengals. They are a tough team but I don't have faith in Gresham staying healthy.

Sorry but Cromartie isn't that great and Wilson is a rookie so I am sure we will be able to throw on them.

The division certainly got tougher last night but GMs really prove their worth after the 1st round.

I have no doubt Ozzie will take advantage of the strong draft and improve the team significantly tonight.

The Bengals swept the Ravens without Gresham and without Antonio Bryant last year.

I wasn't saying they would sweep Ravens BECAUSE of Gresham. The simple fact is, they own the match-up. Their team is built perfectly for beating the Ravens.

Antonio Bryant and Jermaine Gresham are just huge bonuses. And the teams meet in Week 2, so I'm sure they'll probably both be healthy for at LEAST that match-up.

In the 2nd meeting, in Week 17, teams will probably have things locked up and it might not be an important game for both teams.

Not to mention we didn't lose Gaither in all of this, nor do we need to. That's always a plus to keep your O-Line together to go along with that playmaking receiver.

Ravens played this very smart and I'm actually very happy as opposed to last night. I admit I was pissed off when we passed on Wilson haha. But once we all settle down and look at the big picture, it was well played because we still have a lot of talent on the board. Just hopefully we can get Kindle and AOA then our biggest needs will have been filled in the 2nd.

Then if that happens we can get my dream pick in Jordan Shipley :P

Right now I just hope Kindle falls to us somehow.

EDIT- Just heard about Kindle. Helllllllll no. Dunlap or Price or Griffen please?

Im a firm believer in that one player does not make a team. Those additions certainly help them, but the Steelers and Browns definitely have a lot more holes to fill.

The only team I am worried about is the Bengals. They already have a pretty complete team and they just added Gresham for good measure.

Both games were close and I like our additions way more than theres so far this offseason. I still think we take one of the games and I doubt anything will be "locked up" in our division by week 17. Disagree with me if you want but only time will tell.

Stats sometimes lie. They didn't look too tough in the playoff game imo. Man there are some negative people around these parts :(.

Interesting how Garcon ran circles around Lito Sheppard and the other Jets CBs yet Frank Walker shut him down for the most part.

I am a huge believer in that there is something "special" with our team when it comes to the playoffs. For some reason we are always a good playoff team so I really couldn't care less what our record is as long as we get into the playoffs :).

I believe that in our division we are the best team and we have made the best offseason moves so far. We now have 7 picks(i think) to upgrade even more. I believe in our FO to do a better job than the other teams in our divisions FO in the rest of the draft.

Just because you don't pick a first, doesn't mean you won't upgrade your team. Not by a long shot. In fact, I've seen plenty of teams with multiple first rounders in the past, not do squat that year or even years after. *cough* Redskins *cough*
