Thumbs Up Or Down On New Draft Format

35 posts in this topic

Let here everyone's take. It has grown on me. I like it. It sucks that we traded out of round 1 and have to wait until tonight, but I do like the new format.

Did it go by fast because of the new format or just because teams knew who they wanted?

Both.

Thumbs up. Very exciting. Mike Mayock further proved why hes the best draft analysis in the NFL.

Loved the Thursday night round but I hate that rounds 2 & 3 are on Friday night. Who can sit around on Friday Night watching the draft?

The pace of the draft was nice and fluid, that I liked. Though as a Ravens fan it kinda sucked to get all pumped up for draft day, head out to the bar wearing all Ravens stuff, waiting to see who they pick, only to see them trade out of the 1st.

Thumbs Down;

1) You feel like you just wasted your time if your team trades out of the first round
2) If you are a fan of a successful team and you have early morning obligations.... you are more than likely not gonna be able to see whom your team drafts

It'd be better if it started earlier in the evening... but I liked the old way better 1st day rounds 1 & 2 2nd day rounds 3-7

plus it just seems weird when you hear 2nd round guys labeled day 2 guys

I liked it because it's easier to convince the future wifey to watch football related material on a work night, than during a beautiful spring weekend.

Red, what does that have to do with the new format??? The old format would have had you waiting longer for nothing.

Friday is the best day to watch the draft, as for me and my family. I call it Draft party.

I loved it. Faster paced. More relaxed time of the day...Its hard to just sit around on a saturday afternoon doing nothing but watch the draft. Its a lot easier to do on a weeknight.

I like the new format. I'm not going to complain, even though we did trade out of the 1st, it was still worth watching. The only thing I would change is starting the draft earlier. I know 7:30 is prime time, but considering it took like 3 hours, and wasn't over until like 10:30ish, maybe they could have started at 6:30 or something to where it would be over before 10. Also I would probably start Day 2 at 4 or something, instead of 6 tonight. I would just say start earlier and that's it, otherwise I love it.

If more than one round is on day 1, then your team WILL get to pick eventually. Unless they happen to trade away all their picks. But because it's ONLY round 1 on the first day, if your team trades away that 1st round pick, then your whole draft day is blown... unless your team ends up trading back into the 1st round.

And if your team has a late pick, like the Ravens or Vikings did... you watch the entire first round building up anticipation. Then their late pick finally comes... and HEY, THEY TRADE IT AWAY! THANK YOU, COME AGAIN!

Instead of waiting an hour or so for your team's next turn to pick to come around... you're waiting that hour or so, but they don't start until 24 hours from now because the next round is tomorrow.

It has EVERYTHING to do with the format.

I really like the new format. NFL network did a great job. But I suppose I will be happy with any draft now that I don't have to look at Paul Tagliabue! All joking aside; the round was brisk, the coverage and analysis were well done, and it was enjoyable to watch.

The draft consists of 32 teams. You're watching the NFL draft, it's an entire process. Your team trading out of the first round is not a valid argument for the new format sucking.

Your agrument is La, La, La LAAAAAAAMME. L-A-M-E, LAME. hahahaha.

Actually, they get 5 minutes less to decide on the highest value picks. But yes, they do get 17-18 hours to think about rounds 2 and 3.

I love the new format. As much as I loved waking up on a saturday and tuning into the draft, it was nice to order a pizza and relax on the couch in the evening during the draft. Only thing I'd change is, maybe, do rounds one and two on thurday, three and four on friday, then five, six and seven on saturday. But I really can't complain otherwise.

Again, I love it! There is nothing like the NFL Draft, because you never know if you will see your team's logo pop up on the board. Then you wonder what was given up and who you moved up to get. It sucked for us, because we didn't pick on Thursday, but it may not be that way next year when we pick at number 32. I like the touch of having the SB MVP to read that 32nd pick, but it binds the team from being able to trade it. I mean, what if the Saints wanted to trade back from 32?

Anyways, I love this new format. And we still have Saturday to sit around for the rounds 4 thru 7. And then the UDFAs which is the part that I look forward to.
