Bob Sanders, Defensive Player Of The Year?

23 posts in this topic

Guess Ray-Ray can't win them all. I'm not saying Sanders deserved it or not, but you can tell how much of a difference maker he is on the Colts when hes playing. I know Rays a big differnce maker when hes on the field as opposed to when hes on the sidelines. I guess they got tired of seeing a Raven player win the Defensive player of the year award :)

Because last season they were one of the worst defences, the worst against the run. When he came into the lineup for the playoffs, they became one of the best defences. now this season they are once again one of the best defences, despite losing one of the leagues best pass rushers for the seaon(through injury) both their starting corners (through FA, and we know how much losing your corners can hurt...) and their top linebacker. It would be stupid to say Sanders is the sole reason for the D's good performance, but they have no other quality players on thst side of the ball, so I'm going to go ahead and say it:

Bob Sanders is the sole reason for that D's good performance

that's why he got DPoY

I remember John Lynch once stating that if a safety leads a defense in tackles, it's not a very good defense.

But bad defences rarely have the 3rd best D in the league, what a coincidence!

I'm just repeating what somebody else said. And screw the Colts anyway.

Well, that's true...normally, if a safety makes a tackle, that means someone got into the secondary, which is NEVER good...

But...Bob Sanders is no ordinary safety.

That's a testament to HIS talent, but also speaks volumes about the poor quality of play around him.

Yes, one man does not define a defense, but if one man is what it takes to SPARK a defensive turnaround like last year's playoffs and this season, then he must make that much of a difference.

Sanders deserved it. As much as we would rather see a Raven player win one, no one deserved it more than Sanders.

i think ed should have won he had like 5 or 6 int's i think it was tied 4 3rd in the nfl

He had 7, but antonio cromartie had 10, so it would be unfair to give it to Ed based on INTs

and in which is why (in some retro spect of the whole Voting part of the deal) it is very hard to choose just 1 or 2 or a "few" players to represent a team at a particular position, i mean because there are so many players out there who have/will have great seasons and great games week in and week out, but in the end will get snubbed out or "jipped" because of the Voting and what not...so in a way its sort of a cruel way to get players recomended and what not because that means other players out there whom have had great seasons and who deserve a chance and a spot...are jipped out of the whole deal.

he had: 96 tackles

3.5 sacks

6 passes defensed

2 int's

ray lewis had much better stats and, sanders won easily.

can somebody tell me why?

That was publicity stunt. They want people to believe Sanders is a better player then he really is. I look at all the great seasons had by defensive players and even Sean Taylor beats Sanders. And tragically he didnt even play the entire season.

I knew he wouldnt get it, but I think antonio cromartie should have had more than 1 vote. 10 picks, and he wasnt even the starting cornerback, not to mention the 108 FG return.

I agree; Cromartie definitely deserved more mention. You want a game-changer? Try 3 picks against Peyton Manning.

But Bob Sanders has guys like Sean Salisbury around to constantly hype him, which is obviously more valuable.
