Troy Smith Signs His Tender.

20 posts in this topic

I'm thinking it's likely that Troy Smith signed his tender on saturday to try to pull a Brandon Marshall. We all know Marshall signed his tender and then was traded the next day. Now I'm not say smith will be traded today or tomorrow, I'm just thinking that's what troy is trying to get at. In my opinion I would love a 3rd or 4th for the guy. Buuttt if we do deal him, we will most likely get a 5th..

Well, the team can't actually trade him unless he signs his tender, so that's a good start.

We'll I'm just saying it shows other teams that he isn't waiting until Thursday to sign it.. Now Ozzie has a couple days to figure out how he could trade him on draft day for a pick

It would be nice to get a 4th round back. From Buffalo, Cleveland, Oakland?

None of those teams have good QB situations but they won't be giving up a 4th round pick for Troy either.

Perhaps he signed it so he can GET PAID!

Shoot, I'm a Troy Smith supporter and even I don't think this has anything to do with a trade.

He realizes no team was going to give the Ravens what they wanted for him. So he can sit out, and not get paid. Or he can be under contract... get his money.

I would be highly surprised if he got us a fourth rounder in return. I for one am so tired of hearing about him. Hopefully we can get something for him, but I doubt it. He hasn't proved anything and I haven't seen anything from him that would lead me to believe that he will ever be "the guy" somewhere.

Forgot to add i agree with what you said Ed_Reed20. As for him wanting to get paid: there are better ways to go about it then what he did this year. Keep that crap out of the media. I honestly wouldn't be mad if they just cut him, I may be in the minority with that opinion but it is what it is.

They won't cut him. He's a solid back-up. Keyword being back-up. I was all for Smith between Boller, Flacco, and him. However, the more I've seen of him, I'm glad we went elsewhere (even if it was by default). Smith wants to be a starter, and I can't blame him. But when you haven't played a significant amount and during the time you did get, you didn't really show alot that screams "Start me!", you really can't expect alot of teams that desperately need a quarterback to take a chance on you. Maybe he's a victim of circumstances (between getting sick during competition for the starting job and finally getting a shot the same year Flacco was drafted), perhaps if he had gotten more playtime he would have developed. But like it's been said before, Smith hasn't shown much. Certainly not enough to show teams that he has the potential to start. And without showing that, no one's going to want to take the risk.

You mean what his agent did.

His agent represents him though. If his agent was spreading false information, Troy would have fired. The fact that he didn't is proof Troy wants to be traded and would've crawled to Cleveland if he could.

I thought he said he wanted to be traded but didn't want that info out til after the season. I could be wrong though.

But if he didn't want that information out until the post-season, why did his agent come out with it in the middle of the play-offs?

I thought the whole "would crawl to Cleveland" comment was both distasteful yet hilarious. It's almost a slap in the face to say "Hey, I'm so desperate, I'd crawl to a division rival". Yet, it's also hilarious because of how bad Cleveland is. I know, it's because of where he grew up and went to school. But c'mon. As soon as I heard that comment, I told myself I don't care if he leaves anymore, I just want to stop hearing about Troy Smith constantly. Don't get me wrong, I like him backing up Flacco, I just tire of hearing about him and some of the distasteful comments regarding how bad he wants to leave.

Some agents jump the gun sometimes. I don't know if that's what happen, that's just what I thought I heard. But I could be remembering wrong.

I find it hard to believe his agent did it without him knowing. If he did I am sure he would have found a new agent. Just my opinion though and yea maybe the cutting thing is a little out there but I have always been of the opinion (especially if you have proven nothing at the pro level) that if you don't want to be here then bye. Hopefully we can trade him for any kinda pick that would be a golden senario in my mind.

It would be indeed fantastic to draft him for an early fourth round pick. The guy has nothing to give to the Ravens organization and he's overshadowed by Beck anyway.

Troy Smith did fire his agent. Or am I mistaken?

Uh... what? First, no one will give a high fourth round pick for him. He's an original fifth round pick that hasn't really shown he's worth more than what he was drafted with. Secondly, how is he overshadowed by Beck? Troy may not be great, but when he needs to be on the field, he can at least get it done. Not to mention, he's much more versatile than Beck ever will be. Smith came in his rookie year and started the last few games of that season. Didn't really showcase starting potential (but before the draft the following year, he was probably the best bet that was on the roster), but he performed well enough for a back-up. Look at the games Beck started in Miami... well, here's both men's stats for their rookie year (2007):

Smith: 4 Games Played, 2 Started, 40 Completions, 76 Attempts, 52.6% Completion Rate, 452 Yards, 5.9 Average, 2 TDs, 0 INTs, 4 Sacks

Beck: 5 Games Played, 4 Started, 60 Completions, 107 Attempts, 56.1 Completion Rate, 559 Yards, 5.2 Average, 1 TD, 3 INTs, 10 Sacks

Similar, yes. But with two more full games under his belt, Beck should have had more to his name that year, but he did not. Unless you want to count the more interceptions and sacks. Even if you want to say it's a wash between the two, it negates the comment of "he's overshadowed by Beck". Honestly, the only way Beck overshadows Smith is that he was drafted in the first round.

Was just about to post the same thing ;)

And can someone explain to me, how anyone would give up even a fifth round pick now, when every team in the league has had that opportunity for a month, seeing as Troy was tendered at a fifth round pick? let alone getting a 3rd or 4th??? IMO it's highly unlikely we get anything more than a 6th, which to me seems a bit silly to accept...
