Who's The Team's Best Athlete?

34 posts in this topic

The Ravens are one of the most athletic teams in the league in my opinion. I was wondering who you guys consider the best athlete on the team.

In addition to what we've seen from the guys on the football field, a few Ravens are pretty impressive off it too.

I'm sure most of us have seen what Ngata did as a rugby player, Ed was a javeline champ at the U, Pryce is an avid soccer player, Michael Oher was a really good basket player in high school, Ray was an accomplished wrestler in H.S. and Zibby is an amatuer boxer.

Those guys aside, Suggs is one of the more gifted players in the league, Gooden has shown he has the speed to run down Adrian Peterson and both Foxworth and Fabian ran sub-4.3s at the Combine.

So again, whose the best athlete on the team?

I might agree with you.

Even though he was overweight and out of shape, Suggs made some sensational plays last year.

Foxworth showed off his speed a number of times but a play that struck me last season was when he climed Vincent Jackson's back to bat away a pass.

Brendon Ayanbadejo seems to win the strength challenge every year for his weight class, pushing sleds, benching, lugging weights, etc., so he's in the mix.

Lardarius Webb is fast and really strong for his slender frame, also.

This is a really tough one, I don't think you could straight up give it to one person. I would think Ayanbadejo is more of a lifter than an athlete. Ngata, Suggs, Reed, Lewis, Boldin, Pryce(in his day), Oher, I would say are our better "Athletes".

Difficult question..
If I were to choose one, I'd go with Ngata.
All of the ones you mentioned are as athletic as it can get but Ngata stands out for me because of his incredible quickness for his size and the power he possesses.

I see everyone talking about Ray Lewis, Ray Rice, Reed, Suggs, Foxworth, and Webb, don't get me wrong these all all great athletes and one of them could possibly be the best athlete on the team. But what i don't see is Landrys name up there Landry has been one of the most important players on our Defense and has made some great plays and in my opinion i think he should be considered.

Ngata is a freak athletically... Ray Rice is a beast of an athlete... Webb is also a great athlete... Ed Reed of course... Pryce can still run with the best of them... Gooden ran down Adrian Peterson... and the list goes on.

I'd have to say Edgar Jones, Haloti Ngata, Ayanbadejo (that guy has near DB speed and near DL strength in a weight room environment) and Rice. In that order.

I'd say Edgar Jones. You have to be a superior athlete to play so many positions on both sides of the ball.

I'm going to agree. Edgar Jones. At 6'3" 250 - he's got the versatile size to be able to do a lot of things athletically. He was originally a linebacker, who made his name on special teams. He was then converted to Tight End.

All three positions require three different types of athletic traits.

Too bad athleticism doesn't mean great results.

Where's the love for Billy Cundiff and Sam Koch?

Lol. Sam Koch is a pretty good athlete though.

I immediately thought of Lardarius Webb when I saw the question, so that might be my answer. Its all in defining "Best Athlete" though. Is it speed? Strength? I can see how Ngata gets the nod also, given the strength/power of the man.

I may even throw Ed Reed in there for his freak combination of speed, ball skills, and elusiveness.

Good question. I think we just have too many good people lol to make a judgement! Well, I do think it's between Derrick Mason, Ray Rice, Ed Reed, Ray Lewis, and Jarrett Johnson right now. See! I just named five of the 22 starters.

I'd say only Ray Rice, at this stage of their careers, is the only exceptional athlete of those guys.

Don't sleep on Tom Zbikowski. Very underrated speed wise and like you said is an amateur boxer. I was praying to put him at punt return ALL year. Once Ed Reed retires I won't have a worry about zibby replacing the spot at all.

I gotta go Ngata on this one. The guy is just a freak, I swear to god he's catching a touchdown out of the jumbo package as a tight end one of these days.

I want to see Ngata go on a fullback dive. Anyone who has seen videos of him in his rugby days will understand why...

I think with the whole Size/Weight/Speed/Strength taken into account that Ngata is probably the most athletic.

When a big guy like Ngata and Pryce are mentioned for their "athletic ability" it says that much more because of how big these men are, Ngata weighed in at 367 lbs at the start of training camp, while Pryce is most likely hovering around 300. For the reason because it's that much harder for the big fellas I'll put my list like this.

Ngata
Pryce
Lewis
Oher
Suggs
Reed
